    This is amazing. When he plays it live he generally moves it up one fret though. It sounds a little nicer one fret up.

    for the bass line, you don't really need to strum with the pick like that you can slap the strings and it gives just about the same sound...

  • @TheWorkingWeeb
    @TheWorkingWeeb 10 лет назад +1

    • @ShawnParrotte

    Hey Shawn, I have trouble trying to fret the bars using one finger. Do you have any tips that may work? Thanks in advance

    • @liv1218
      @liv1218 9 лет назад

      keep trying on an acoustic guitar, then get an electric guitar and try barre chords and find out its bloody easy on those strings, then play acoustic again. That is exactly what I did and it worked 😂😂 I owned an acoustic guitar first then really wanted an electric, and once I bought it I found out I could play barre chords, then I tried playing on acoustic guitar and it worked 😂😂

    • @sharvinisawsome
      @sharvinisawsome 9 лет назад

      Homer Simpson Really? Neat! Thanks for the tip mate!

    • @Cmeigs017
      @Cmeigs017 9 лет назад

      Sharvin Sakthivel You could also play the bars using an alternate style of fingering where you bring the thumb over the neck to cover the 6th string. Say you have an A with the root being on the 6th string (5th fret). You'd thumb the 5th fret of the 6th string. Your third, second, and first fingers then hit the 4th string (7th fret), 3rd string (6th fret), and 2nd string (5th fret in line with your thumb) respectively. This technique is used by heavily by Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer among many other players who I can't think of at the moment! It's a preference thing and allows for the use of the pinky finger for additional hammer-ons. Draw back. It can cause stress in the muscles of the fretting hand, so be sure to stretch it out. I'll find a good example for you!

    • @sharvinisawsome
      @sharvinisawsome 9 лет назад

      Cmeigs017 Got that! Will try it out, thanks for the tip!

    • @Cmeigs017
      @Cmeigs017 9 лет назад

      I made a mistake. That technique can only really be used with major chords (and minor chords dropping the second finger and using the 1st finger to cover the 5th fret on thee 4th and 3rd strings). However, playing around with this song, trying to find a solution to your problem. You could play 8th fret-1st string-1st finger, 9th fret-2nd string-2nd finger, and 10th fret-3rd string-3rd finger. You play that in lieu for the first two chords (just hold the position and slide from 8th fret to 3rd fret). The final two chords in the progression can be played as he shows or just as a normal power chord for an easier time. Up to you, really. Good luck, bud!

    • @ShawnParrotte
      @ShawnParrotte  9 лет назад +1

      loren finck Well you sorta need to angle your hand a little bit. When you do selective muting like that you can be a little lazy with how you place your fingers on the fretboard. Let 'em lean into the other strings so you only hear the ones you want.

    At 5:35 and 6:48 you mention to mute the strings you don't need... but how? I can't see any difference between the strums regularly and the percussive strums and it's frustrating me. It's by far the most difficult part of the song and you kind of gloss over it in 2 seconds. Can you explain how this is done please?

  • @phantomplanet07ify
    @phantomplanet07ify 6 лет назад

    One thing to note, youre playing the chords right but one fret lower than he plays it. he plays it on the 9th, 4th, 5th, then 7th as it follows the bassline. It sounds close but its better when you play it like the bassline/how Ed actually plays it, good tutorial though.

      Generalissimo Depends on your price range. Sub 500 can usually get you a pretty great guitar. If you want a smaller guitar, Martin and Taylor make some pretty good small bodied guitars in this price range. I never played it but a lot of people REALLY like the Yamaha Fg700s. I've heard it's one of the best selling guitars ever. Just go to your local music store and try a bunch out and see what you like
