- The effervescent Bria Skonberg came by with a top notch group and wowed us with a fun set of music, laughter and fun. Mathis Picard (new Julliard graduate) backed on piano, Eric Wheeler played upright bass, Elizabeth Goodfellow (with whom Skonberg had a band named “Mighty Aphrodite”) charged drums and percussion and Steve Treseler (who met and jammed with Skonberg in Seattle over a decade ago) filled out the group on reeds.

My wife and I were lucky enough to enjoy Bria and the Louis Armstrong Tribute Band at The Birdland in NYC in 2016. It was a great show and a decent meal. She noticed we were from Canada and sat down and visited between sets, which was really nice of her. She won a well deserved Juno Award in Canada for an album the next year. We hope to take in another show some day.

If you think this is cool, you ought to see Gunhild Carling (search on youTube for this). She plays a bunch of different instruments and sings. Gunhild freaking sounds like Pops on cornet, man. This girl in the vid here is good too but not Gunhild. You'll see what I mean when you check out Gunhild.
Such a great version. The fill at 1:53 by the drummer is killing! AS a bass player I would trip over that one...

I've seen Bria twice in St. Pete and Largo, FL about a year apart. Second time she actually remembered my name!!! Clarinetist Evan Arnzten was in her quintet that tour and he did the best vocal on "Stardust" that I've ever heard; and I was born the year Hoagy wrote it- both in IN.

Wonderful version of this great jazz standard. I especially liked the piano solo, good sense of harmony. I am so happy that Bria and other young jazz musicians are playing these old but great songs.

Outstanding in every way. Even the choice of key (E flat) is bold. Most bands play this in C or even in the 'easiest' key of B flat.
