Autotransfusion

Autotransfusion is something that is used not only during cardiac surgery, but also orthopedic, and vascular surgery. The purpose of using an autrotransfusion machine ( or cell saver) is to recycle the patient's own blood that is lost during the procedure. This drastically eliminates the need for donor blood.

Hello 👋, thank you so much for your videos they all are very much appreciated. I am a Nigerian, with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a Post graduate studies in biological science. I have always loved practicing in the medical field. Currently, I work as a scientific officer/physician assistant under the cardio unit in a government owned hospital here in Nigeria. While searching for other professional fields I could delve into and not leav the field of CARDIO, I came across perfusionist for the first time and I seem to be in Love with it already. Sadly not a single institution in Nigeria offers training for interested candidates not even in cardio technology or technician. The few percussionists here, studied outside the country... I have checked out some schools in the US but I noticed it's mostly not open for international students to study as a perfusionist and if available they have very Small number of intake plus they require you to have some previous shadowed experiences before applying. I would be really grateful if I you can help with lists of schools that are open to international students with no experience to study this course. I'm equally not going to relent in my searches for suitable school's. Thank you for your time and effort... Enjoy the rest of your day

Is phlebotomy considered Blood management? Or it specifically has to be blood bank? Cant find an answer anywhere

What anticoagulant is used and is it contradicted in a trauma patient who is bleeding?

We use heparin. You definately wouldn’t use it for a bleeding trauma patient.
