Syphon Filter is the main reason why I became a big PlayStation fan. Twisted Metal is another. Without them being in the lineups for new games does not feel very PlayStation like. I feel like those two franchises got overshadowed by the recent exclusives like Ratchet and Clank and God of War. I never got to play Omega Strain online due to not having a network adapter for the PS2. I also had no one to play with. Great memories with this series. My dad was a bit of a gamer and we had a family playstation. I remember once my dad was on holidays from work, and I came home from school to find every window in the house covered and dad was playing this game in total darkness on our surround sound system in the dark. We used to trade off and work together to beat SF1 and 2 as well as some of the PS1 Medal of Honor games. Great memories and a great game.
I'm so happy to see this video hit my sub box. I was going to be devastated if this channel had to fade away. Thanks for the hard work, and thanks to all the backers that help make it happen
Guys, get parts 1-3 on PS4. The PSP ports, however, have glitchy controls. Relive your childhood. The controls and visuals are smoother. This series was well-written, produced and featured fantastic music. Perhaps Gabe can return in a semi-open world format, or a single player campaign with depth and some open-ended scenarios. Precision was the developers' strength. It's not over yet.
Whenever i see a Syphon Filter video I always appreciate the gameplay, level design and art style, but now i must emphasise how amazing the OSTs are in every single game in this franchise ❤❤❤
Syphon Filter and Gran Turismo were the first games I bought for PS1. I own and have beaten all the Syphon Filter games. It’s probably my favorite game franchise

So good to see Syphon Filter getting some attention, one of my favorite series of all time. Endless hours of fun playing this and still run it every now then till this day. Would be amazing if they remastered the first 3 or even rebooted the franchise one day
It took me so many years to come to terms with the fact that we would never see the follow up to the cliffhanger in logans shadow. Honestly though, saying he's been in a coma for 18 years could make for a great plot
Syphon Filter (1999) BLEW MY MIND. It was one of those games where you just were like wow... this can happen in games now? The late 90s and early 2000s were really insane to live through if you were into video games.
I freaking love Syphon Filter. Whenever someone asks what remaster, remake or game to be brought back from the dead I always say Syphon Filter. Before I ever played SF I didn't like the look of it because I thought it was just a MGS rip-off. But then I tried the demo and beat it a bunch of times. I ended up absolutely loving it. You showed another videogame I love, Apocalypse.
My first Syphon Filter game was the first PSP release. Excellent game, and one of my favorite 3rd person shooters on the handheld. Got me through many long nights.
Good to see you guys are still going strong! I was worried after that last vid. I've been wanting to get into siphon filter since playing it on my ps1 classic. Easily one of the best games on it.
I remember playing Syphon Filter on PS1 way back then when I was too little to even understand what to do yet I just ran around and was amazed by the "level design" and being able to shoot enemies lol. Good times!
Not in a financial position to support the channel at the moment, but will be doing my best to spread the word, like and comment, etc. This channel is a treasure, and your work a gift for those interested in the history of the games industry. Also I will use this opportunity to request a video on Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy. Still waiting for that sequel. One day, I'm sure. :')
That ending was delightful. Thank you for your outstanding work on this forgotten and underated master piece that was Syphon Filter. To this day, I still play the original game at least once a year, on my original CD from back in the days wich I got a bit later on after its release on my 13th birthday. Salutations du Québec!
And that's just terrific news guys. Glad to hear the other viewers love this channel as I do and delight in it. This is peak "oddly compelling yet completely interesting gaming history and review" material. Very cool a small team is able to accomplish such a vibe that feels like an episode of some PBS journal program. Other channels feel like someone telling me about a game. This channel feels like I'm listening to investigative journalism
As for the "Sorry, we should have realized that players wanted to play as Gabe, and not their own character", maybe if game developers were more open during the development, sharing concept art and development plans with the community on their website and launched surveys like "would you prefer the return of Gabe, or you own original character?" we wouldn't end up with games where developers have to post-launch apologize for misreading the room. I am not saying they should share company secrets, but be more open during development like we see with indie devs on kickstarter.
i do agree with this but back then this wasnt common at all and it wasnt that easy to reach a big chunk of the player base since social media didnt exist
Ha thanks for making this. One of my all time favorites. Bought the original game at least 3 times for one reason or another. Has a special place in my heart. Nice to also see the actual human faces of the developers and all those responsible. Always wondered what the people who created this looked like when I was a kid.
This game was ahead of it's time, I remember shooting lamps and everything would go dark, but the best part is that you won't hear it break till the glass pieces would hit the ground, that was something crazy for a PS1 game
I've contributed a year to pateron because i love this channel so much, it pains me to know your future hangs in the balance. This is the so vital to video game history.
Was hoping you guys would get around to this series, and it delievered in all the ways I've come to expect of this channel - top work. Only two things that I thought were worth mentioning and got glossed over was the attempt at a SF graphic novel that never materialized beyond a few preview pages, and Syphon Filter: Combat Ops, a PSN exclusive map-maker/online only title that used the multiplayer of the PSP titles as a framework.

So good to see Syphon Filter getting some attention, one of my favorite series of all time. Endless hours of fun playing this and still run it every now then till this day. Would be amazing if they remastered the first 3 or even rebooted the franchise one day
Oh man I'd be in my living room screaming like a little girl if they ever remastered any of the first 3
It took me so many years to come to terms with the fact that we would never see the follow up to the cliffhanger in logans shadow.
You guys make the best gaming documentaries on RUclips :)
Good times!
I'm just glad this Rise and Fall video isn't about GVMERS.
Ahhhhh! You captured the graceful ballet of the majestic taser perfectly with that musical track! Superb work people! As always.
I second psi-ops
Syphon Filter was a favorite of mine for so long. So much fun and great memories. Another great video!
Syphon Filter double disc had Wu-Tang forever vides! The PVP split screen... Oh the epic battles we had!
love this channel, love you guys. hope you break 1m this year. excellent work as always.
THIS! I keep thinking the subs counter is frozen...or the proverbial hamster has died on the wheel! We appreciate your support.
That ending was delightful.
Thank you for your outstanding work on this forgotten and underated master piece that was Syphon Filter. To this day, I still play the original game at least once a year, on my original CD from back in the days wich I got a bit later on after its release on my 13th birthday.
Salutations du Québec!
This was such a big part of my childhood. Thank you for uploading this!
I remember going over my friends house after elementary school and playing the original Syphon Filter. I eventually got SF1+SF2 for my own PS1.
I cut myself shaving laughing at the Taser montage before the credits rolled. Thank you for a great laugh.
Yoh,
Let's put it this way. I saw a new GVMERS video and clicked. Nothing but respect for what you do.
Take care and have a good one
As for the "Sorry, we should have realized that players wanted to play as Gabe, and not their own character", maybe if game developers were more open during the development, sharing concept art and development plans with the community on their website and launched surveys like "would you prefer the return of Gabe, or you own original character?" we wouldn't end up with games where developers have to post-launch apologize for misreading the room. I am not saying they should share company secrets, but be more open during development like we see with indie devs on kickstarter.
i do agree with this but back then this wasnt common at all
and it wasnt that easy to reach a big chunk of the player base since social media didnt exist
@@Senumunu Ah right. The time before social media. So nostalgic. You forget sometimes that such times existed.
That's weird. Why wouldn't it make sound when the light fixture and bulb exploded from being impacted by the bullet?
Great video, any chance we can get a rise and fall of the “Conflict” series
I remember that game and was always surprised it didn't took off like the Splinter Cells games.
Syphon Filter, Splinter Cell and Metal Gear were the biggest pushers for Serious Dramatic Stories in early gaming... and i was a fan of all of them.
I've contributed a year to pateron because i love this channel so much, it pains me to know your future hangs in the balance. This is the so vital to video game history.
The 2 disk Siphon Filter was the first game I ever completed lol I was like 7, next game was GTA.
Been waiting on this one, Gvmers, thank you.
Gaming doc youtube just ain't the same without you guys ❤
Was hoping you guys would get around to this series, and it delievered in all the ways I've come to expect of this channel - top work. Only two things that I thought were worth mentioning and got glossed over was the attempt at a SF graphic novel that never materialized beyond a few preview pages, and Syphon Filter: Combat Ops, a PSN exclusive map-maker/online only title that used the multiplayer of the PSP titles as a framework.
Excellent video on a great series, thank you Gvmers.
Dude, to the people who donated, thank you so much. This is my favorite channel. You are beasts for helping them!!!!
Personally would like to see coverage of The Warriors on PS2 by Rockstar!
Syphon filter, MGS, Splinter Cell.... the formative games of my gaming career. That's a lot of nostalgia.
Glad to see your back. Keep up the good work.
