I only started watching this because of Chamath and I've watched the first 8 episodes and it's amazing to me how they talk about the "radical left" and how it's such a fluid boogeyman for them. Sometimes the radical left is "social democrats like Bernie Aoc" other times the radical left are the centrist dems...lmfao. Just whatever it needs to be when they are criticizing the left. Great podcast however got to disagree with the point being up of San Francisco's bad fiscal management. The public employees get paid 6 figures because that's the only realistic way to cover their living expenses after the start-ups there have increased the rents and use tax loop holes to avoid paying tax. It isn't 100% on the local government there. Rampant homelessness there is just the price they're paying for SF's fame just like LA. If I was homeless I'd move to California.

For reference: socialism is wildly different from state capitalism. Much of what the political right calls socialism is more accurately describes as state capitalism. Using the word "socialism" to describe how the idea of healthcare for every citizen, that costs less and has the same outcomes, is disingenuous at best. Where anyone can go to any doctor. That increases freedom of choice, not decreases it. Compare that to what we have now, hundreds of companies with thousands of plans and the goal of each and every one of them is to rip off their customers. They tell which procedures are covered, and which are not, which doctor you can see and which one you can not see. C'mon. It's right there in front of all of us. Call a spade a spade. For example, if you don't like your doctor, and want a new one, but that doctor is the only one in-network in that part of town, then what is one to do? The point here is not that it is impossible to solve this dilemma, but that it takes work and therefore discourages people from doing it. Whereas if anyone could go to any doctor simply because they wanted to, that would be an easier system to work within. Don't tell me we have "freedom" now, because that's an illusion of Big Media.

Many of the people in the two opposing major political parties vote the way they did for the same reason. It's amazing how much we all have in common. The overwhelming majority of people, I think, agree that the government should be working for the people and should be made up of the people and it should be done by the people for the benefit of the people. To that end most people agree that lobbyists should not exist and have ruined a great many things. Most people agree on a sensible immigration policy and most people agree that directing our national resources toward scientific truths is worthwhile and a public service. And then throw in partisan politics and at all gets checked out the window and we just start fighting over who thinks Donald Trump is a sociopath and that sort of stuff

42:13 - yes. The issues we are all discussing are more complex than one party versus one other party. There are many ways to solve many of the problems we are discussing and simply because a person is Republican does not mean that they could, should come or do subscribe to the way the republican party deems it necessary to solve that particular problem. That begs the question, why is it so difficult to form a new political party and why do we basically have a two-party system? In many other countries if a certain party gets, for example, 15% of the vote, they get 15% representation in Parliament. If another party gets 25% of the vote then that particular party gets 25% representation in Parliament. None of this winner take all bologna. All that creates is half of the population being extremely upset and easily offended all of the time. It leads to a gridlock and nothing productive while the lobbyists for the large corporations pillage our government and right our laws in their favor. And we're left to choose between two parties whose primary goal is to obfuscate and confuse people with partisan politics while the wealth just gets transferred away from the people.

Ex. : Healthcare for all is only "radical left" in the US because is displeases the insurances monopolies who makes billions on peoples suffering. In the rest of the Western world its an accepted minimum for a modern functioning society which all political sides agree on.
America is so far to the right, that trickle down economics is still considered a good idea even when the reality is from birth to your grave its an indebted servitude economy.
