57 years ago today you left this world. You have never been forgotten and never will be. You music lives forever. Thanks for this song and all the others.
My Judy slipped thru my fingers for 37 years. Luckily I DID find her and we had 18 wonderful years before she passed away. This song sustained me during those 37 empty years. This song always reminded me of what I had lost.
This Gentleman is immortal .in relation to the manner how he sang for the songs, that Nat King Cole sang.Throughout his career .I would this track is another magnum opus .
This song is another spell of Nat who with his unrivaled voice, extraordinarily deep , velvety and caressing can create a romantic atmosphere so intense that makes us move. Also the lyrics are very romantic and original.
Very good song I had forgotten from not hearing it. My late Dad used to like this song through I did not remember its title till now. Nat had such a great voice really and not one of the singers today can hold a candle against him.
That's the wonderful beauty of a good song, it becomes yours along the road for they become timeless to your life and time! Mr. Cole was before my generation but here I am loving the sorrowful loving message, which it's never ending...... Mir11Mir thumbs up I remember `+`
Since I have the original 1952 Capitol 78 (yes, 78), this being in stereo means it's a re-recording, which was a common practice at the time. Nelson Riddle arranged the original, and this sounds like him again. It remains my favorite Nat Cole recording. The songs that hit home are the ones you always remember.
The memories revived by this great song are almost indescribable, but while being painful they are also beautiful. We all must lose loved ones but songs such as this bring them back.
You are correct. the year was 1961 and the name of that wonderful album is The Nat King Cole Story. The songs sound far better (to ME) than his earlier recordings particularly this song, Mona Lisa-- and the Christmas Song, which was the 4th re-recording of that song and the one we hear today. His voice had deepened, (unfortunately that was due to his hopeless addiction to cigarettes) and wow he sounds heavenly! A great album...
Nat King Cole had a warm, velvety voice and specialized in intimate, romantic ballads. It was the music of a generation that believed in romance, the highs and the lows and the wonder of it. But with the advent of the Pill, the relationship between men and women changed, not for the better in my jaded view, and love and romance both suffered for it, and ballads like this one are no longer part of the popular culture. More's the pity.
this guy had possibly the best voice in the business
Where did all the songwriters go? Where did all the singers go? The music reflects the culture.
I'm 87 today, this takes me back to 1953. Lovely memories.
not even my mom knows how to make a comment lol
I'm nearly 85 and have similar memories! This recording still sounds fresh today!!

My mom bought this record in the summer of '52, and wrote what records she bought and where. She was 18.
Nat King Cole is nostalgic. This is a great poem sung with heavenly melody.Even today he is unparalleled.

I lost my Lisa November 2005 after 23 years of marriage. My fault I fear but yet I continue to believe year after passing year that she'll come home.
:(
@@ste118they'll always come home...if you'll let them. That's how love is. That's how it is. Been married 63 years, love for her never change. Ever.

Seven people wouldn't know amazing music if it hit them in their foreheads and they probably think L'il Wayne is good music.

'Then love slipped through our fingers'...the best sung lyric ever....

@ju2568 ok you are excused ;) it used to be another word for happy, it changed around the 70's and 80's to what it is now
@ju2568 are you being funny, or do you genuinely not know that gay hasn't always meant what it has today?
