Agreed. I'm an honest-to-gosh entertainment critic by day, which among other things means doing movie reviews. Local 58 beats all but one of the horror movies I've seen over the last five years, past or present (that one being "Upgrade"). ...And with that 1 AM realization, I decided to take a break *from* doing reviews on brand-new horror movies for a while, simply because there's nothing in the pipeline that even compares to this. Seriously. Straub and his team are turning out a higher quality of horror film than most Hollywood studios.
Of course 2 to 3 minute videos are better. You try making a feature film length with the same quality of horror throughout. This is only good because it's short. Any longer with the same concept and you would've been bored in twenty minutes.
Local 58 reminds me of that fear as a child when a scary movie in the VCR ends and you want to go cut it off before the harsh static, but the encroaching darkness of the room makes that short jaunt a sudden vast expanse. That sensation of being trapped by video is hard to replicate. Keep up the great work.
I really love your work. You slowly build up fear within a person that you're expected a jumpscare but there is none. You're left with the built up fear that will never reach a climax. I love it.

It’s dead quiet and the broadcast gets louder and louder. I’m sure more than 9 year olds would cry over this, the sense of emptiness freaks us all out.

These things, when projecting yourself into the established universe, give you a sense of terror since you can tell something is terribly wrong, there are very bad things happening, but you are deaf and blind to all of the facts of the situation. This series follows the same principles as Lovecraftian horror without having fantastical elements, but supernatural instead, which many more are afraid of. Just because you think gore and threatening is scary does not mean that it is horror, it most definitely isn’t. Also send me feet pics you bitch, haha, comedic relief to ease the tension so nobody is arguing anymore.

Also mentioning analog can probably tell us that the interruptions are being manipulated mechanically and not say, digitally. Probably by actually changing the broadcasted information itself, and not changing it from where it was sent.

The frequency range “476 MHz” is directed towards PRS (Personal Radio Service) or more commonly known as Walkie-Talkies. The reason I think it is telling us to “Look Away” and “There Are Other Receivers” is that the frequency range for Walkie-Talkies is 476-477 MHz compared to Analog and Emergency services which use 485-502 MHz and Amateur radios (1240-1300 MHz), why mess with something that has such a small range when you can target something much larger? I could be wrong but those are just my thoughts.
