    I think that most people who dislike Calling All Stations never really listened carefully to this album. IMHO it's much better than most Genesis albums of the eighties. And Ray Wilson deserves much more credit. Great performance!

    Excellent singer! As a Genesis fan since 1971, I think Ray was treated extremely shabbily. I enjoyed Calling All Stations and the tour that went with it. Certainly the vocals are very strong, perhaps more akin to the PG days. An opportunity going forward for Genesis was definitely missed, in various ways. Whatever, it's lovely to see how Ray Wilson has continued to be successful in Poland and Europe.

    Randomly generated by RUclips today for me. Watching for the first time. Strangely after the Genesis 50th anniversary tour ends. I listened to CAS again recently (it turns 25 this year) and it remains mostly underrated. This shows that you could put together a live show representing Genesis 1978-97 with Ray, Mike, Ant Drennan and Nir on drums plus maybe Mark Kelly on keys if Tony Banks wasn't keen. Or do Genesis 71-77 with Mike, Ray, Steve Hackett, Nic Collins on drums plus maybe Mark Kelly.

    " il doit y avoir un autre moyen " Long morceau de qualité avec ce Break de Clavier Dévastateur que seul Banks est capable de composer ! De + la voix éraillée de Ray Wilson colle parfaitement avec l’Atmosphère de cette chanson ! 🎸🎹🥁🎤🔥😍😉👋✌❣🇧🇪🇩🇪

    First time i see such a flute thing whatever it is, but doesn't sound something like the guy on the keyboard can't make.

    • @marie-franceluca9673
      @marie-franceluca9673 5 лет назад +3

      It's a MIDI flute - or a wind controller - this means it's not really a flute since it is electronic.
      If you don't know what all this means, here is an explanation: We talk about an electronic protocol (MIDI, "Musical Instrument Digital Interface") whose purpose is :
      1) To make communication possible between two (or more) digital devices which aren't running with identical software/firmware programming because they come from different manufacturers. The MIDI, with its standard cable and outlet, permits universal compatibility when devices are equipped with such things (it is rare to not find MIDI protocol on digital instruments anyway).
      2) To make control possible between two (or more) digital devices which are complementary in their form:
      - On one side, a sound module with samples of rare or expansive instruments or some that you never knew or simply never learnt to play with. This can be software or rackable/desktop module. In the latter case, it can reduce the quantity of equipment on tour (for logistical problems) or in the studio (for space problems)
      - On the other side, a controller to play those sounds. This can be a keyboard - for those who can play the piano - like you already know or any other type of instruments. In this video, it's a wind (more precisely "breath") controller, a practical solution for wind instruments players who don't play keys. it can also be a guitar and even acoustic drums. You need to have a sensor or pick-up to detect any impulse - in this case again a breath of air - or an acoustic/magnetic vibe on an acoustic/electric guitar.
      Now the explanation about the operating:
      the said impulse or signal is transmitted to MIDI interface and translated in there into simple (but numerous) data in a particular processing language (standardised as said earlier). Those data, like the pitch and dynamics (which notes and how hard they are played) among other are then received (and "understood" as a matter of fact) by the sound module who play in accordance the sound you chose before.
      You can guess that you could play any sound with any type of controller: a piano or a percussion sound with (not "on") a guitar or a typically electronic sound like in this video that you rightfully recognised to be possibly from a keyboard... Because it was simply that, originally: Genesis' keyboard player Tony Banks played it on a synth.
      Maybe the keyboard player here wasn't skilled enough to play it (not so plausible in my opinion) or the winds player had it attributed to him and thus having more parts to play (does this even makes sense ?).
      So here it is and even if you may already know about almost everything that I typed here or if I could just have put some links to some Wikipedia pages on the subject (I'm a bit lazy right at the moment, sorry !), I hope all this is clear and not too long (It is I know but I also eluded some of the most technical aspects on the subject, to not be more boring😏).
