This anime needs another season, or at least to see the finale fight between the one armed swordsman vs the blind & horribly twisted crippled swordsman!
The manga itself deserved to be put out completely in animation. My favorite part of the manga was when Gonza lost his shyt and wanted to kill every single samurai and anyone who witnessed Nagare boshi.
Too bad the anime just covered like a third of the manga but then again it seems the manga itself was also cut short so it is oddly fitting that both the original and the adaptation left the reader/watcher wanting more. Edit. My favorite part is the chapter in which after learning the Nagare Boshi Gennosuke keeps having dreams of him fighting his doppelganger and no matter what he tries his double always kills him using the Nagare Boshi; funny enough Gennosuke never is seen using the Nagare Boshi in the story but was able to create two techniques that countered the two ultimate attacks.

this show and manga is almost a horror piece. gone are the notions of a noble samurai and it’s replaced with a cult like following of inhuman monsters in the guise of men
Fujiki can't slash both brothers without having to come a little closer for the second second kill, after slashing the first from a far. At such speed, Fujiki gives an opening for the remaining brother after the first cut fallen one. If Irako wasnt there, them both brothers would win. 2vs2 was the only choice for Kogan Ryu style to have a chance. Unless the very sensei Kogan was fighting those two by himself. It took Irako some insane presicion and luck to take on Kogan and survive. The Funaki brothers are dangerous as phuck, it took two special swordsman for both brothers to be wiped out. Great match.

Very great stuff although what made them lose was just a moment of hesitation leaving them open for anything. Also all that build up for the characters was just in a few seconds and we were shown their thoughts on the matter while facing down their opponents
When I was younger I thought this was boring. Now with a bit more life experience it hits very hard. I really didn't get why it's good. It's meant to show more of how the samurai really lived. How fights were much more likely to play out. Sword fights in general but especially between samurai are all about massive buildup and just a few seconds of real combat where lives are changed, and ended in that incredibly brief span of time. It's exceedingly rare to see a lengthy exchange of blows between samurai or European swordsmen. That only really happens between masters, even then it's beyond rare for it to take more than a few very quick exchanges of attacks.
Anyone catch how he put his pinky in the air all extra fancy like? Their master got it wrong. It's not when they put the sword over their shoulders, but when they raise their pinky like 🧐you know it's over.

I acquired this animation over 20yrs ago and I couldn't fully understand it then and seeing again over 20yrs later still makes no sense and why hasn't it been translated in this amount of time
