Why can't a girl use an electric saw?
She said multiple times to get someone who is experienced to help you, she didn't say go find a man to do your powertools for you. I don't think English is her first language, maybe others shouldn't be so quick to jump on someone for misspeaking or (god forbid) having an opinion that differs from theirs? Yumi is a very talented girl and from what I've seen has never been rude or callous to any of her viewers. So maybe just laugh it off and go on with your day.

Some boys shouldnt feel comfortable using those types of tools either. In any case, the last male wasnt really necessary, this kind of projects dont require that much strength at all. Just get someone who is more experience whether it's a guy or a girl.

I did this with different pastel glitter, and some different pastel sanrio tapes! It look longer but was VERY worth it. We used my dads carpentry Shoppe and instead of plastic he made the pipes into ceader wood rods. So anything I'm working on bugs will run from it. They hate ceader wood! Especially moths.

seeing all the comments just made me smh.....I born and was raised in Hong Kong, here in the Asia we girls are not taught to use power tools, because of the culture, boys are being taught to use a drill or hand-saw in earlier ages. However, most of the fathers are not willing tp teach girls to use those tools since they think it's too dangerous. Maybe you girls in the US know how to use power tools, but most of us in Asia don't know, and since Yumi was raised in China it's very normal for her not to know how to use power tools. Just calm down you guys

This is such a great idea. I can technically find mannequins my size but they don’t fit my measurements perfectly. Like the size that is perfect for my waist is not a fit for chest or vice versa. Everyone has a different body so having a mannequin made for you seems perfect

That will make a beautiful manequin, however, if you dont mind "industrial looking" then you might as well use a broomstick inside of a bucket filled with cement, because, meeh why not.

For someone who doesn't know how to use it then yes it can be dangerous... Age doesn't really matter unless you are like 8 and under
I have done this before! I cosplay frequently, and build armor out of worbla and foam, and since worbla must be heated up before molding it, you can't exactly put it against your skin. I made a full body (from the neck down) mannequin of myself that I can sculpt on. It's useful!
Awesome stuff, Yumi! When I was still doing costuming in the '90s, I'd do a similar method to make casts of girls' chests to do plastic armor over. Used plastic trash bags, then taped them into shape.
If you want a body that won't lose its shape over time, especially in warm climates, like duct or electrical tape will, you can use spray foam ( very gently because it expands aggressively ) or better yet, two part cold foam. It's a latex based foam, and you can pour it into the taped form. It expands to twice its size while curing. This can then be covered in fabric. :)

Smart Idea! Well thought out. A good dress-makers form can run in the $$$$ and is not needed unless your spending a major amount of time sewing. This will do nicely for most home projects, but I'd take it one more step and just throw a tight fitting knit shirt over it for something to stick pins into. Good Job!!

Alicia, if my man wants to be helpful and spare my delicate hands, why I would feel pissed of. I would be very happy having a man like that around me all the time. That's why it's so difficult to find a good man today, because they got all confused and stayed away from some women. I love your manikin, it's super cute and sturdy. I made the mistake of waiting to long when I tried to make mine out of duct tape. it was summer time and the sticky tack part of it just fell apart due to how hot and humid it was that day. lol Never thought to use pillow stuffing though. Most use grocery bags or insulation foam. I like the pillow stuffing, sounds like less mess and hassle.
I like her tutorials, they are easy to follow.

This is the only video I've found that puts an armature inside, which is awesome! It seems to me that just sticking a stand in it would result in the pipe eventually poking its way thru the stuffing and out of the neck.

For those who don't wish to use power tools, you can get a handheld cutter for PVC (plastic) pipe fairly cheap at the hardware store. One type has a straight blade and used like scissors, the other is like a 'c' clamp with a cutting wheel that you spin around the pipe.
This is perfect because mannequins are really expensive and this is a really cheaper way to have one.
