This is something we've thought about a lot, it's really important to us that he's able to be outdoors as much as possible. The chance to look after some land and grow our own would be amazing
You guys are excellent at beginnings, "meh" at follow up, and dismal on completion. I'd set a bit of a boundary.... you can't contemplate this massive new project until you have all the little things in the boat completed. Fasten that shelf! Paint that bathroom! Practice self disciplion in the small scale before you tackle something so HUGE! :D
And you see a snapshot of our lives once a week... To give you an insight as I did to a previous commenter... These videos take around 4 days in total to create. Alongside these we also work and care for our son. We live in a space that is 54ft long and 6ft 10 inches wide. Joe has to nap 3 times a day and we can't make any noise at home when he is sleeping. We can't paint as the fumes wouldn't be good for him. It's winter so the doors and windows can't be open to air. Part of this site would be to give us space to work and keep our business moving forward. But hey, judge us on the 20 minute insight to our lives that you see each week 👍🏻 Thanks for watching x
I have been following you for a while now, i think what you are doing is really great with the allotment and looking after Jo and i know how hard it can be living on a boat as i also live on one. I am of an age so forgive me for this bit of advice, the plan to expand and live off the land is a lovely idea and your already giving that ago, but from experience renting land with or without a barn is risky because you could find yourself doing so much work and then the landlord decides to sell up because he's had a better offer. This happened to a family member of mine, they put a load of hard work into a piece of land, greenhouses etc and after a couple of years the landlord decided to sell up and all the effort was gone. I think the set up you have now is a good start, you seem like very motivated people who want the good life and your still young enough to achieve the bigger dream. A better option will come up and the time will be just right for you as a family. I hope you don't mind m 0:31 y advice or words of experience.😊
This is fair enough, but you can say that about any enterprise... Unless you happen to have deep pockets and be able to own a store outright then you're always going to be in a rental position
@thistinylife There is nothing wrong with renting, I did for years with my son from him being a baby until he was 10, I then brought a house. I think all I was saying was check the details before you sign up to rent land. This is coming from experience and wisdom.
You only live once - you have a dream, you go for it! Doesn't matter if it's not the best financial decision etc (just reading some of the other comments...) Who cares?! It's not all about bloomin' money... you can't take money with you, but you can have a whole bunch of memories to look back on ♥️
The barn is beautiful and the views are incredible. I can see you guys buying that barn and converting it into your new home. It would be a lot of work. I couldn’t live without onions and garlic I use them almost every single day.

That barn was made for you! Sometimes the universe moves forward our timelines to test of its really what we want. If saying yes won’t cause you financial hardship then maybe it’s worth testing yourself and saying yes. After all, you’ll have the long, dark days of winter to prepare and plan for it all.
It would be something I would love too...but is it the right time to start a homestead? Even an easy slow start? Is there any right time coming? Looking myself for a barn and some land ...
I like it! The allotment system is unfamiliar to us, as is the vegan/vegetarian lifestyle. I was wondering why there was no mention of poultry or dairy goats! Now I know. Beautiful place BUT.... Rent NO Buy YES. Many youtubers buy and renovate places like this with the youtube proceeds that are generated from posting all the renovations. You CAN do this... 👍
Ooooh someone else going daft on jackets same here from charity shops, I have found some lovely recently, only thing each one is white 😳🤣 but hey Jack if it’s suitable and you like it👍. The one I bought recently is a Swedish make and would be well over £100 new, no way would I pay that but it’s lovely nothing wrong with it bar a small mark on a pocket, but hey who will notice it☺️. I paid a fraction for it. Love a charity shop browse. Gabby they say, for every leaf you catch, it means a years good luck 👍. Idyllic looking place there where the barn is, go for it if you are able 👍oh and Tilly made me jump as she ran back almost hit the camera 🐾🐾🤣
I'm so pleased! I'm thinking it might work better to roast off the squash and add later. We don't have an over though, only a hob. It also really needs a bit of colour - one of those recipes that tastes better than it looks! Thank you for trying it xxx
I think that they do a lot considering they are both learning on the job, plus they have a baby. They take a huge amount of time. I was lucky to get anything done with my newborns. It felt like all I did was take care of my child.
How you both juggle so many tasks I don’t know. This video flew by and before I knew it, it was to be continued. Will have to try out your new place to see the recipes in your blog. I’m deliberately not commenting on the barn idea for a future project. I believe only you can both know how much you are callable of taking on. But if you do take it on it’s worth remembering you are only renting! It’s never yours. So be careful about how much you invest in it. And check your contracts very closely! All the best 😊
Thank you!! This video took a fair few zhuzhes before we were happy haha hence why it was a few days later than scheduled. I understand the concerns about renting, but really any enterprise is going to require a let unless you have unlimited funds which we certainly don't haha it also works both ways, if we decide in a few years that it's not working out we can easily let go rather than being stuck with all our assets tied up
Nah that wouldn't be part of the plan. It would be too risky and the boat is our home. We need the space to be able to separate work from home... This would essentially be our office
You only live once. Go for it I say. Good luck if you do. Will you sell the boat? Is their a canal you can park the boat close to that property? Or will you travel? Enjoyed the video. Have a good week guys.
What is the plan with the barn? Rent it to travel to and use it as an allotment, or rent it to live in? If the latter then I would not do that with a rented place, you could spend all the time, effort and money converting it, just to be served an eviction notice as soon as it is done.
We would rent and use it as agricultural land. I want to expand my beekeeping and we would like to run workshops. The barn would act more as a studio space for filming. The boat is home. We need somewhere to separate the two out because working and living in a tiny space is starting to become tricky with Joe... Especially now it's getting dark by around 4pm
I'm a bit confused...are you saying you're thinking of buying the barn to develop it and renting the land? As you're already planning the allotment for next year it sounds like you've already made your mind up that is just a dream. Can't wait to hear if you go through with it.
We're not in a position to buy, unfortunately. This is a quarter of an acre plot with rural buildings. The land would be cultivated for food production as well as my beekeeping. The barn would be used as tiny life HQ and for filming more foodie content. We'd stay living on our boat which is nearby and use this as a place of work. Trying to work and live in a tiny boat with a baby is beginning to prove tricky haha
Would you sell your boat to live there? You could convert the barn, or get a static caravan. Like the haircut looks so much better and I love a duffle coat, reminds me of Paddington 😅 it's good to dream but life is short and I don't think you should put off your dreams or plans.😊
The boat will be home, this would be work. We're looking for somewhere to be able to separate the two as living and working in a tiny space with a baby is starting to become quite tricky haha
It's very nice, but I'd be most afraid of the landlord and the fact that it's a rental. What if, after investing all your time and money in settling in and making changes, at the end of the lease, the landlord raises the rent to an amount you can't afford? Or what if they decide not to renew and you are booted out? I'd be very concerned over the details in that lease.
But, what if they don't. I'm not sure you can live your life constantly in fear. If it all goes wrong, then it's another story to tell... As it would be if things go right. Nothing is ever going to be forever and ideally we'd like somewhere for the next couple of years before we need to truly settle down for Joe's schooling etc. We'll see :)
We don't have a tap in the kitchen - we will one day but I still have some piping to run. The sink is an old jam pan. It's not plumbed in, we wanted to maximise the space in the cupboards rather than having pipes in the way. It also means we can warm water for washing up easily on the wood burner
If you think you can afford it without putting pressure on yourselves ,then go for it. Do you intend to make a home in the barn ? If so ,that’s a bigger picture 🤗
We wouldn't be able to live there, it would be more of a way to expand our business and give us the space to separate work and home. The big big picture is to be able to own somewhere like this one day... But that's a long long way off! Thank you for watching ☺️ x
Not really... It's slightly complex but essentially the government have made farmland count as part of inheritance tax as would any other family business or estate.
Another lovely video! Great to see how Jo is growing - I think you’ll have to tie him up when he starts toddling about! Btw Did Jack do most of the cooking before boat life? Love yoo’s! xxx
Tbh you're not keeping up with jobs now. How will you keep up if you take on a bigger project? I agree it's an awesome opportunity, but you'll have to get much more efficient or you'll just have a bigger muddle. Sorry. Pretty brutal. But true.
Deborah, we have a baby and live in a space that's 54ft by 7ft. We're quite hampered with what we can realistically complete in that space. Please remember you only see a snap shot of our lives.
RUclips really doesn't pay very much. If you work it out financially then it is not worth our time at all. We live frugally and have zero debt. When we need to adjust our lifestyle to reflect our income we do
Ah Lynda... I'd normally not bite at this but let's go for it shall we... Putting together these videos takes a long time. Filming a simple 30 minute task will easily turn that job into being 4 hours long. We then have to edit that footage and put it together to try and tell an interesting story. All that filming will then equal about 3 minutes of a vlog. We like to make sure there is plenty within each episode, so will also film a few more parts of our day. In total these episodes equal about 2 days of filming and 2 days of editing. I also work in my freelance job, write our blog, develop our recipes, keep our other social media channels running, look after my bees, have a healthy vegetable garden, care for Joe when Gabby needs a break, keep our home a float because being off grid means no running water or heating on tap and try and maintain a healthy relationship with my partner and our friends. You can happily call me a procrastinator... But, this procrastinator also gives you 20 minutes of free content every week and all you need to do is click a thumbnail to enjoy it. Thanks for watching :) x
@thistinylife Sorry again I know there is alot in filming and editing in a small time frame we view, but there are some things that seem to be half done like the shelf you showed.
Go for it. The barn with small plot is perfect. 💚
Omg that barn is idyllic. You've just got to have a leap of faith and go for it!!

Trying to work and live in a tiny boat with a baby is beginning to prove tricky haha
what about the plumbing and electricity...will the owner let you change its usage?
Would you sell your boat to live there? You could convert the barn, or get a static caravan. Like the haircut looks so much better and I love a duffle coat, reminds me of Paddington 😅 it's good to dream but life is short and I don't think you should put off your dreams or plans.😊
The boat will be home, this would be work. We're looking for somewhere to be able to separate the two as living and working in a tiny space with a baby is starting to become quite tricky haha
Don’t want to be a kill joy but remember how long it takes you to do jobs in the home . You will also need water supply!
The universe is telling or showing you its time to go for your dream do it now before you wake up andits to late
Hi we’re is your tap and sink in your kitchen
We don't have a tap in the kitchen - we will one day but I still have some piping to run. The sink is an old jam pan. It's not plumbed in, we wanted to maximise the space in the cupboards rather than having pipes in the way. It also means we can warm water for washing up easily on the wood burner
Thank you for your reply we love watching you the barn is lovely hope you get it
Toggles
If you think you can afford it without putting pressure on yourselves ,then go for it. Do you intend to make a home in the barn ? If so ,that’s a bigger picture 🤗
We wouldn't be able to live there, it would be more of a way to expand our business and give us the space to separate work and home. The big big picture is to be able to own somewhere like this one day... But that's a long long way off! Thank you for watching ☺️ x
@ Thankyou 🤗
Why don't you write a cook book?
didn't the UK just pass some tax laws that target small family farms
Would you be able to survive your lifestyle without RUclips?
RUclips really doesn't pay very much. If you work it out financially then it is not worth our time at all. We live frugally and have zero debt. When we need to adjust our lifestyle to reflect our income we do
Iam sorry but I think you are abit of a procastornater, so many jobs to complete you take too long .
There’s nothing wrong with being a magpie who moves by the whims of its own caprice !
Well said Jack, love your videos and the realness, thank you to you and Gabby 😊
Hey @lyndamorrissey6646, kindly FCK Off, you miserable crone!
