    I just want to thank you for posting this. I managed to reconstitute my DDS for a new project and I didn't want to reinvest I a new DSO yet.

    This is probably the best introduction to the DDS-120 I have seen.
    I agree with Kris: This is a good product, for the price.

    Great review. Too bad the manufacturer doesn't provide this much information. I agree, for a relatively inexpensive price, this does exactly what I need for various electronics projects. I have an inexpensive single channel CRT oscilloscope that cost twice as much.

    I got one of these a couple of weeks ago and I was a little (OK, more than a little) distressed by the spurious noise. But as you've pointed out, for not very much money, it does a lot and actually works pretty well. And the noise won't really interfere much with my ability to see what I need to see in any of the vintage radio and TV signals I'll be looking at.

    Nice review. This thing is even cheaper now. One thing you're missing in this review is the XY-mode button. I can see that on the video but would be nice to see if it's actually comparable to the usual oscilloscopes which has CRT monitor. Or is it too slow to use it as a decorative element with music.

    Good job Kris! Thanks for this great introduction to the dds-120. Did you try the Hantek 6022BE? Which one would you choose?

    • @KrisKasprzak
      @KrisKasprzak  8 лет назад

      +Juan Pablo Duz I looked at that unit. I was having such good luck with Sainsmart products (Arduino stuff), I decided to go with it. I'm guessing the two are similar in capability and accuracy.

      Go for the OWON VDS1022 instead, at least there are positive RUclips reviews of the software of its bigger brother by actual electronics experts like mikeselectronicstuff.

      Perdona, soy un aficionado a la electrónica, como hobby, y quiero avanzar un paso mas, para profundizar en las frecuencias y me planteo comprar el osciloscopio modelo SanSmart DS802, pero no encuentro en Internet donde descargar el software necesario . En la documentación del contenido del paquete no dice que incluya el software, tan solo en las especificaciones dice que es compatible con windows . Me podrías ayudar a aclararme, ? no me defiendo bien en el ingles y no encuentro ningún tutorial en español. Gracias y perdona por las molestias,

    Every signal you were testing was 240Hz? I was looking at couple of reasonably priced Fluke Scopemeter's to tune the gains on my car audio amplifiers and all of the cheaper scopes seem to be missing the feature that detects what signal is currently being played/read. I was looking at the DSO and Velleman HPS140i and they both let you test the signal but if you are, for example, testing a 1Khz tone it won't display that.

      I routinely measure square waves up to 30 khz, but the unit can measure much higher frequencies. No sure my reply helps...

    I just purchased this piece to use on my car stereo. I cant make heads or tails of the manual. I need it set it to test for distortion in the audio signals. Can you tell me how to adjust the settings to use it for this application? I know how to use it once it is setup correctly.

    Hi Kris!!! i know the difference between dds 120 and dds140 is de Bandwidth(20 and 40 MHz respectively) and the MaxSampleRate(50 and 200 msa/s)..........does this makes any big big difference? i would like to see the waveform of my motor variable speed drives...

    • @KrisKasprzak
      @KrisKasprzak  8 лет назад

      I guess it depends on how fast the waveform is, assuming its a pwm type signal i doubt it's above 30K, meaning the 120 should work. I've used my 120 to monitor motor controllers and it worked fine.

    Any idea how I could stabilize channel 2? My channel 1 trigger seems to be working fine but the trigger for channel 2 isn't working at all
    Never mind...It turns out I didn't have my trigger set to begin with :$

      darn good question. I've never figured out how to get the trigger working on any channel. When trigger is on, i have to drag the mouse cursor in the graphics window and sometimes trigger will work. Very flaky...

    HI, just bought the DDS-140 but for the life of me I cant load the driver on a WinXP laptop. I'm not having much luck with support so would you/anybody have any suggestions?

      I've had to manually update drivers on XP in the past and this is the approach. Perhaps it will work for you
      1. Click Start, then right-click My Computer (or Computer) and click Manage.
      2. In the Computer Management window, on the left, click Device Manager.
      3. lick the + sign in front of the device category for which you wish to install the driver.
      4. Right-click the device, and select Update Driver. The Hardware Update Wizard opens.
      5. For using Windows Update, select No, not this time and click Next.
      6. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and click Next.
      7. In the window for search and installation options, select Search for the best driver in these locations, and select the Include this location in the search check box.
      8. Click Browse, and navigate to the folder that contains the driver files. Click OK when this folder is selected.
      9. Back in the Hardware Update Wizard, click Next. Windows will search for the driver and install it automatically. 10. When the installation is complete, click Finish.
      Hope this helps.

    I bet that noise is coming from the USB port. i.e. Noise generated from the computer. This seems to plague many of these USB Oscilloscopes.

    • @KrisKasprzak
      @KrisKasprzak  8 лет назад

      +valveman12 Any idea if there is a way to fix this?

    • @valveman12
      @valveman12 8 лет назад

      Kris Kasprzak No it can't be fixed. It is inherent is the design/ lack of filtering. Unfortunately when it comes to these USB scopes, you really do get what you pay for. The Labnation USB Smartscope appears to not suffer much from computer generated noise.

    No checking of the actual voltages, no checking of the actual bandwidth, that's a pretty useless review.
