There is way too much inaccurate or ambiguous language in the use of the word "gene" in literature and online. I was doing a sanity check and this is what I needed. Thanks.
00:21: "a gene is a location on a chromosome that encodes for a particular protein or set of proteins" 02:04: "a locus is the position of a gene on its chromosome [...] the locus is essentially the location of that gene" So there are parts of the chromosome that aren't genes, then?
I do not see how that is implied. The chromosome is your neighborhood. The gene, is your home. The locus, would be your address. Your home exists without your address, the address just gives a little information about how to get to your home.
