BEWARE! You may already know that old fiddle cases are notorious for having dust mites, aka bow mites, inside them. The voice of experience here! Good luck...great idea in salvaging a piece of fiddle history. Can't wait to see the result. A good cleaning with a quality upholstery cleaner is a big help.
I disagree. Not every history needs to be preserved and not all aging builds character. This is just a poorly designed, poorly crafted, and poorly maintained piece of junk. The handwritten label deserves no more preservation than someone writing “wash me” in the dirt on a grimy car.
@@jeffreynerdin3522 I appreciate your perspective. I agreed that not everything needs to be preserved and not all aging builds character..For sure. But I would argue for the value of the handwriting. Just for me it holds something, and maybe just for me and that is ok.
@@jeffreynerdin3522 A completely rational response and attitude. Americans tend to overvalue (in my opinion) anything old. As a European, I have a slightly more pragmatic view of aged objects. But this case, while cheap and poorly made, tome it struck a chord instantly. And it was the scrawled warning, I did similar things as a kid, and that is probably why I like this object and view it as worthy of restoration.
An old card catalog is the holy grail of antique finds!
Agreed!!
Outstanding. I have a case exactly like this one and was wanting to restore it. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it. Loads of ways of restoring these. Hope your project goes well.
Thanks Daniel. Interesting recovery project. I love the card catalogue, I've always wanted one. Take care.
Thanks! Yeah I have really loved having it.

Nice that you are bringing that old Violin case back to life Daniel! 👍👍🎻🎻
It is nice to see new life in things
Thank you for sharing.
of course!
This is a great video idea and project in one thanks for bringing us along
Clearly valuable to Kelly. He/she's gonna be pissed at all that touching you're doing Daniel.
haha. well it aint hers anymore haha.
@@JDanielGraham Kind of crying out to add your own warning label
I've been using strips of fabric and fiberglass resin from the inside for separations. Just getting back into it at the age of 72. 😊
wow! Super cool!
Cool project!
Thanks. I did this right before the wood was ready for the Sitka Violin. Just now getting around to posting it.
@@JDanielGraham I wondered when I saw the card catalog.
Do you know the brand or maker of the case. Miesel ones have the same bow clips and look similar
no idea of the brand or maker. It has no labels that I can find or any clues.
Only heartless people would just outright toss it. It has way too much history and character.
I know right!

@@JDanielGraham That’s okay. It’s a personal thing, after all. Hope it works out well.
