As a railroader, i have visited this terminal and it is huge. Went up into the tower, brought my radio and listened to the yard at work. A nice added touch would be to have a radio receiver at each window for that part of the yard being worked. This would add an understanding of yard operations.
I used to be a Trainmaster at Norfolk Southerns Conway Terminal Hump Yard outside of Pittsburgh PA. One of the most interesting places to work on the railroad with all of the associated infrastructure. Hump yards at night can be dangerous places if your in the bowl especially if it’s snowy or foggy which decreases visibility and muffles sound.
@@williamphillip9749 I completely understand where you’re coming from. I put in about 2 years and got out because I was not the type to “hide in the bushes” on my guys. Especially in a hump yard where your production numbers are all that matters.
Excellent clip from a wonderful program. We are all anxiously waiting for the release of the next program and wondering which railroad line it might be.
The Heart of the UP if there is one place that Builds America and is the heart of the network it is here The Largest Yard in the World Bailey Yard in North Platte. Every second a train comes in and the hump breaks it apart and sends those cars all over America while the engines are serviced at the North Platte Diesel Shop before they are readied for their next assignment.
Hey! I'm the 3rd shift dispatcher for the North Platte terminal... We're actually in Omaha, not on site in NPT. We've been in Omaha for a few years now... When was this video shot?
Awesome video
Thank you!

The only thing that’s dangerous about the railroad is the horrible trainmasters constantly harassing everyone.

This was shot last year. Looks like the information I had was outdated. Thanks for the correction!
