  • In this video we see how Jewish tradition developed the story of Joseph, and how the authors/editors of the Quran cannot tell the difference between midrash and Torah.

@islam critiqued.. at round 7:05 you said he (Joseph) was still jailed with reference of surah 12:28-30... but from what I've read from your own video, there is no reference of him even gone to jail. So muslim source is saying he was proven innocent at the very moment without going to jail? If so, why are you trying to say things that muslim dont claim to be.

  •  4 года назад +82

When Muslims try the "produce a Sura" challenge with me, I always ask for the criteria for which an impartial judge can evaluate it. I never hear back.

    • @breakfastgun

I thought for sure I would never be confronted with the "produce a sura like it" argument, considering how nonsensical it is. Alas, I was wrong. So I did the same thing, asked what the criteria is and got no answer to it. I was also told to give up, because thousands have tried over the centuries and none have succeeded.

Very smart. I’ve done this challenge with a Muslim before, where I told her to find the most beautiful verse in the Quran and I’ll find the most beautiful verse in the Bible. Likewise we compared the accounts of Adam in the Quran and Bible.
For both examples the Muslim realized the Quran lost, though she did not admit it explicitly.

I read an interesting answer on that topic in the comment section of another David Wood video. Here goes: Satan took up the challange and won, since he produced suras which Mohamad believed to be coming from Allah. They must have been equal in beauty and eloquence, if even the prophet of islam couldn't distinguish them from the suras of Allah.

      What is the truth?
The Talmud was compiled in the 14th and 13th centuries after the Quran.
Midrash Yalkut Shimeoni: More than a century ago, Zunz pointed out that the Midrash Yalkut Shimeoni had been compiled in the 13th century CE by Simeon ha-Darshan.[10] This dating is still accepted today. The Encyclopaedia Judaica says:
Yalkut Shimoni, the best known and most comprehensive midrashic anthology, covering the whole Bible. Some scholars (S. J. Rapoport, etc.) claimed that its author and compiler was Simeon Kara, the father of Joseph Kara and a contemporary of Rashi, but A. Epstein showed that there is no basis for this view. He proved that the Simeon mentioned by Rashi is not the compiler of Yalkut and attributed it to a Simeon ha-Darshan, who lived in 13th century.... Zunz dated the Midrash to the 13th century based on the facts that Nathan b. Jehiel of Rome, Rashi, and other 12th century scholars did not know the Yalkut, its use of sources which date at the earliest from the end of the 11th century.... Not all of Zunz's arguments are valid.... but Zunz's view as to its date prevails...[11]
      Similarly Epstein inclines to agree
... with Zunz that the author of the Yalkut flourished in the early part of the thirteenth century.[12]
      2. Midrash Ha-Gadol: It is the largest of all the midrashic collections. Concerning the dating and the nature of composition The Universal Jewish Encyclopedia says:
Midrash Hagadol ("The Great Midrash") a midrashic compilation to the entire Torah... was apparently completed in 14th cent.... Unlike the compiler of the Midrash collection Yalkut Shimeoni, the editor of Midrash Hagadol does not gives his sources.... In many instances the legends and expositions in the text are very similar to those recorded in Mohammedan sources.[13]
It is universally regarded that David b. Amram of Aden (Yemen) was the author of Midrash Ha-Gadol. David b. Amram is usually dated in the 13th century.[14]
      3. Sefer Ha-Yashar: According to the Encyclopaedia Judaica Sefer Ha-Yashar was
      ... probably written in the 13th century.[15]
Some scholars like J. Dan have suspected that this work was composed only at the beginning of the 16th century in Naples. In support of this idea J. Genot cites the description of Joseph as a Jewish astronomer at a Gentile court, the use of the astrolabe, and contemporary influences on biblical narratives. The Venice edition of Sefer Ha-Yasharappeals to a 1552 printed edition of Naples, which, however, apparently never existed.[16] Concerning the contemporary influences on Sefer Ha-Yashar, Zunz points out the existence of various Arab names in it.[17]
      4. Midrash Tanhuma: A detailed discussion about the dating of this book is given elsewhere. It is sufficient to say that this Midrash is dated to the 9th century CE.[18]
      5. Midrash Genesis Rabbah: Very briefly, although scholars had claimed that this Midrash was edited in the 6th century CE, it has now been shown that the text of this Midrash was horribly unstable even when in the Middle Ages.[19] Hence, there is no way of identifying what actually constituted the "original" text. There are chapters of Vayishlach, Vayigash, Vayechi etc. that have gone through extensive changes and have been drawn from Tanhuma homilies. Tanhuma homilies themselves were complied in the ninth century CE as stated above.
      4. Conclusions
Geiger and others claimed that the Qur'anic story of Joseph, in certain parts, can only be "understood" using the Jewish Midrashic literature. It is clear from the above discussion that Midrash Yalkut, Midrash Ha-Gadol, Sefer Ha-Yashar, Tanhuma and Midrash Genesis Rabbah are either late compilations or are textually unstable. They all reached their final form a few hundred years after the advent of Islam.

Excellent job drawing the connecting between the Quran and Jewish sources. Considering Jospeh is the most complete story in the entire Quran, and even it makes more sense when the sources are cross referenced, it is pretty clear that the Quran is unintelligible without the social context (i.e. common knowledge) of 7th century Arabia. So strange that the "eternal" word of Allah that has existed from before the foundation of the Earth and is written for all people somehow only makes sense in the exact time and place it was "revealed."

Biblical Joseph was jailed to *fulfill the lust of Mrs potiphar.* But there is not a single instance of *her meeting with Joseph in jail* . So the main intent of Mrs potiphar proves false.
      2) Islamic assembly of women gathered *on purpose* bcz accusation against her had taken place. So she tried to justify herself.
biblical assembly gathered just as a coincident. *No pre-established motive* . Why the need of gathering arose?

This was what the first group of the Ansari swore, instead of the shahada: I gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) with a group of people, and he said, "I take your pledge that you will not worship anything besides Allah, will not steal, will not commit infanticide, will not slander others by forging false statements and spreading it, and will not disobey me in anything good. And whoever among you fulfill all these (obligations of the pledge), his reward is with Allah. And whoever commits any of the above crimes and receives his legal punishment in this world, that will be his expiation and purification. But if Allah screens his sin, it will be up to Allah, Who will either punish or forgive him according to His wish."
This is REALLY interesting. I don't want to share the end-goal of my big project publicly, but I'm doing all of this for something in addition to standard online apologetics.

The Talmud he is speaking of was AUTHORED in the 14th century
((In several respects, the two major medieval exegetical collections, the Yalqut Shimoni - a collection of rabbinic interpretations of the entire Hebrew bible, which originated in 13th-14th Century Ashkenaz - and the Midrash ha-Gadol - a collection of rabbinic interpretations of the Pentateuch, which was authored in *13th-14th Century Yemen* - are of central relevance with regard to the transfer of tradition(s): on the one hand, these collections, which are intensively received in their respective cultural environment, shed light on the intra Jewish transfer of tradition(s) and their author’s understanding of tradition. On the other hand, they offer the possibility of investigating the extent to which the engagement with other religions (with Christianity in the case of the Yalqut Shimoni and with Islam in the case of the Midrash ha-Gadol) has influenced the intra Jewish understanding of ‘tradition’.))

Good job going after the sources of the Quran. This should be your prime focus. The Quran contain a mishmash of stories and traditions (mostly of Christian and Jevvish origin) that were heard by the authors of the Quran yet often were not correctly understood by them. This also apply to names. The Quran is a 5th grade plagiat with an "lsIamic" "Muhammadan" twist. Even the language of the Quran itself is a messy mixture of languages.

      @heroichero1564 4 года назад

      Islam Critiqued
      You simply don't get
The Talmud was compiled in the 14th and 13th centuries after the Quran's 7th century.

Most of them are anyway just Muslims in name and hardly know the deep roots of this Islam cult who whats to destroy the world and our lives in the end. Our main goal must always be to win souls for the Kingdom of God and glorify God in everything that we are doing. You can fill in all the rest of the blanks. I salute you guys and pray that God will keep filling you with strength, wisdom, and goodwill to carry on with what you are doing. And anyone with common sense knows that a challenge about which you are told how you will respond (Surah 2:24, 17:88) is garbage. If you believe the Quran, you will believe the challenge cannot be met- because it says it can’t be. But that is circular. If you doubt those verses and believe that the challenge could theoretically be met, then you’ve performed an act of apostasy. So which one are you? Do you use circular logic or are you an apostate?
And no, the Quran doesn’t get to borrow material from a bunch of other sources, throw it together, and then say “produce something like what I borrowed.”

@@oaktree2406 The Quran itself. I should have said the "texts that make up the Quran" to be clear. There is a reason so much material resembles other writings - the majority of the texts predate Muhammad and were already being circulated (and changed) orally for some time. They got written down over time and someone (or some group) compiled them and attributed it to Muhammad as a way to unify the people to wage war. (Maybe some stuff actually comes from Muhammad, but most existed before him, and none was compiled into a "Quran" until long after he was dead.)
The hadith certainly have nothing to do with the historical Muhammad. They did even start to be written until 200+ years after he died. There are even quotes from very early Muslims lamenting people constantly making up sayings of Muhammad when the knowledgeable people never made any such claims.

I studied a little into traditional Islam but from that bias. I surely agree there are a ton of false hadith especially if they are reporting supernatural advents. But there are too many multiple attributed hadiths that seem to carve out a biography of a person a well a the Quran has too many allusions to biographical detail of a lifetime of some false prophet/warlord named Mohamed that believed himself a prophet and his followers did to completely be made up after the fact. I think the general biography of his was true. Perhaps the devil did use him to create false lieing wonders. It's just striking to me not that he used apocrypha like the Infant Gospel etc but the stories he got from medrashim and especially the Talmud. The only reason I can think is he was in communication with an Arab Jew (a Yemenite??)???? Also it makes sense that Moe's family may have been the tribe that was the custodians of the kaaba idol shrine. I’ve gotten a recent couple of comments that are completely ignorant, misunderstanding or misrepresenting what I say. One Muslim said that all jewish tradition originated when it was written. No tradition was passed on, only to be written later. He said this so he could choose the latest possible dates for the writing of the Jewish sources, and then say that’s when the legends started, to say the Quran was not borrowing from them. So a Jewish source written in the 9th century could NOT be passing on earlier tradition! Of course, it’s not the same with Islamic sources. Those do pass on earlier tradition. How convenient for him. The argument in this video is that the story is of JEWISH ORIGIN. That’s why I spend so much time in the Hebrew talking about rabbinic exegesis. They don’t get it...

Another little bit of advice I would give you is rather than being at loggerheads with Muslims and confronting and arguing etc on which story is right...
It would be better and easier if you were to approach or if you were approached by a fellow American (presuming you are American), who reverted to Islam to answer your questions or have a debate with you... you would have a lot more common ground because he can relate to you as most of the time they used to be Christians and he can detail with pinpoint accuracy as to what made him change his opinion and belief.. I have seen this method work with my own eyes.. I am a Muslim from the UK but I am of Indian origin and when I try to have a debate or a conversation with somebody else with a different nationality and different religion it’s very hard to get through to each other ...
but I have seen white English Christian reverts to Islam , achieve more success when it comes to speaking with someone who is also English white etc
Similarly there are thousands of people white, American reverts who would be happy to share their experience with you..
I hope you understood what I’m trying to say and do not take offence as generally I don’t like to label people.

I heard this story from a Muslim friend back when I was maybe 12 years old about the assembly of women seeing Joseph and cutting their hands, I knew the story in Genesis and even then I thought it strange that the Quran added that detail but I didn't think much of it, I didn't know however that the Quran goes an extra step and tries to smooth out the story by having Potiphar cozy up to Joseph and say, "I know it's the nasty assembly of women who did this" This is clearly a deliberate attempt on Muhammad's part to try and smooth over and present Joseph in a positive light (the same way Muslims in the past have told me that the story about David and Bathsheba is a corruption by Jews when in actuality leaving out such a story is what would actually be corruption) but the narrative in the Quran is completely nonsensical if Joseph *still* ends up in jail. If Potiphar knows he's innocent why does he still get punished? Talk about completely ruining the point and continuity of the entire story.

      @cccp6681 3 года назад

@@IslamCritiqued it does teach that. But the curption that Islam is referring to is due to the many sources of writing the Bible. Did Jesus receive a Bible from God. No his followers wrote it in different forms that's a curption. Since Jesus was the only teacher to all of them then why is there different bibles. Did Moses receive a Torah from God no then who wrote the Torah and why is there many scriptures. In Islam we are ordered to believe in all gods religions

None may change Allah's words. The Quran affirms the Torah and the Gospels, which are also Allah's words. But the Torah and the Gospels have been corrupted, because the Quran does not match what the Torah and the Gospels say. So, Allah's words have been changed. Muslims have a serious problem.

    Islam acknowledges christianity and Judaism
And it relates stories that happened in the past
Mohammed didn’t go to school neither he knew writing / reading .
So you are right their might be similar stories in Quran and bible , that doesn’t mean that it was copy pasted by Mohammed from the other books.
Infact that should be a point of reassurance as Quran tells you about same incidents which you already have in ancient scriptures which have many versions modified by different people
Quran has only one version from last 14 centuries despite of many attempts to creat other versions .
    Hope you get my point.

It's not nearly that simple: ruclips.net/video/5C8guidRqko/видео.html; ruclips.net/video/7cuTkCGbVlE/видео.html. You don't get to mistake rabbinic exegesis for history and call it divine revelation. I see cheap responses like yours all the time and they completely fail to grasp the problem.

So the Quran emprisonnent version is illogical because it doesn’t fit the Old Testament narrative. I mean if it did, you may as well be a Muslim. Right? 😆 speaking of logic. I mean you’re cross checking it with the same Genesis where the story of Lot daughters getting their father drunk, sleeping with him and getting pregnant is not alluded . You think it’s logical that the prophet of Gob be humiliated by his daughters in a such way? Or the prophet of God offering his daughters to a Sodomite gang to be raped is more logical than the narrative of the Quran where he invite the sodomite to intermarry. استغفر الله

    • @IslamCritiqued

That summary displays comprehension at the level of a child, which is appropriate for someone whose prophet slept with one. Feel free to follow your book, which gives you an unhistorical, sanitized version of "prophets" cobbled together from fragmented knowledge of the Bible and later legends. But don't criticize the moral failings of real life people when your prophet is portrayed as a filthy ignoramus in your own sources. If you need examples, I can give you dozens.

First and foremost it shows how sincere and good person you are by the thumbnail that you put on that you are a hate preacher and insulting and making mockery of the prophet Muhammad ( peace and blessings be upon him)
By putting the picture on your thumbnail.
And you will never find these in among the practicing true Muslims that makes mockery of any of the other prophets as like Jesus, and many other prophets (pbbuh).
The challenge in the Qur'an is not about what you've said you lied or misunderstood completely, but rather is about the language form That is in that even though most of the Arab at that time were masters in their language and were poets and there were different types of speeches in the language when the Qur'an came down to prophet Muhammad (pbbuh) and the poets heard the verses of the Qur'an they were shocked because it was a complete unique different form of the Arabic language that didn't fit any of those forms that were already there it didn't match! so the challenge is about the unique eloquent of the Arabic language.
So To challenge it or to imitate you have to do PHD in Arabic language then try and imitate the Qur'an.
And this is the challenge to those who doesn't believe that Qur'an is the words of Allah (the only one true God)
Then says try and produce imitate a chapter like it and then Allah says you will never be able to.

Well done mate at least you have the decency to compare a story which is very similar in nature from the Quran and the Bible, which shows that you are seeking the truth and you are somewhat at least sincere.. unlike most of the videos on RUclips now where I see insults thrown at each other , accusations, swearing which is disgusting...
What we forget nowadays is the common beliefs that bind us are far greater than the differences...
we all believe in God, we all believe in Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Jonah, Jesus, David, Solomon etc.. we believe in righteousness we believe in not lying we believe in doing good looking after our neighbours and trying to save our fellow human beings from the eternal fire..
let’s hope everyone follows your example instead of throwing insults and picking up petty things just to make someone suffer..
as a Muslim obviously I disagree with you but at least you are decent enough not to throw insults.. you obviously have your interpretation and your own opinion and you’re entitled to them and I hope that God guides you to the truth like he has guided me...

    • @FromValkyrie

The problem is, you're following the wrong path. If Muhammed is plagiarizing Jewish folklore, as this video shows, then he's not getting revelations from the one true God. Therefore he cannot be a prophet of said God. You're being led astray by a false prophet
