V wrote Blue & Gray got his solo album, but then adapted it to BTS. RM, Suga and Jhope almost always write their own verses in every song. This is how they got their writing credit. If you look at the writing credits on all BTS songs, you will almost always see the three rappers credited.

@@MidnightxCrow you are wrong, Taehyung wrote all the song in korean (after they decide to do it in korean) except for Jimin's line “don't say it's okay when it's not” that suga wrote and Tae said in his interview with yoongi that he love this line and changed the rest of the lyrics of that part base on that line. Of course the 3 rappers always write their own parts but Taehyung is credit as a songwriter too for all VL parts (not only composer and producer).

John you have no idea how iconic that bridge of the song is. Literally made Army’s levitate when BE first released. And I believe it was written by Jimin.
It should also be noted that Jhope wrote the song, helped produced it, and took a central presence in the song. He stands out so much.
I had the pleasure to see this song live twice and it was literal heaven. Like you just heard Army hyping each other up and scream at the top of their lungs “SICK AND TIRED… BUT I DONT WANT TO MESS UP CAUSE’ LIFE GOES ON… THROUGH THE FIRE-”
My hearing disappeared for a good minute lol

    • @nikki4noo

Yes Jimin was the writer of the bridge. JK also had a version that he submitted for consideration (and he's released via SM). Pdogg told Jimin why don't you try a bridge and apparently went away and came up with that bridge in about 3 minutes! Epic.
Love the 90s feel to the song and that is J-Hope to a T. He knows how to make it sound like it came from there but also make it sound fresh and now.
Sorry John, but I skipped over the DK part after the way they keep using BTS and ARMY in the past and recently I just wont watch anything they do anymore.

Thank you for this deep dive. This song absolutely deserves it. As the main songwriter, recording engineer, Director of the song etc Hobi deserves massive massive credit as do Jimin and Namjoon for their help on the bridge, Jimin with the melody and Namjoon with the lyrics of that part. My personal fav part is where the bridge picks up with JK and Tae’s part and also the flow on Yoongi’s part. Just a little note. The terminology they use when discussing the music writing process isn’t always translated accurately nor clearly. Also as they go back and forth in describing both the process on this song and other songs, albums, it can become confusing. So when it comes to Blue and Grey it’s important to note that Tae is the composer. Co. Producer and co.writer. He wrote Blue and Grey in English for his mixtape with his own co. Producer friends... When it came to putting it on the Album… it went through some changes lyrically to be made into Korean. Tae was still composer, co. Producer, and wrote most of it but Namjoon, Hobi and Suga wrote lyrics for their rap parts but Tae was the director. He chose which lyrics from each of them to include which is why in the interview with Suga and Namjoon, Namjoon mentions that some of Suga’s lyrics were used but not his. And Suga brings up the same thing while interviewing Tae asking him why he chose those particular lyrics over Namjoon’s. Which Tae goes on to say he wanted to be true to his feelings etc. and how he even rewrote some of his own lyrics based on one of Yoongi’s lines. But Blue and Grey is absolutely Tae’s song with contributions from others but the core and majority is his. Same as Dis-ease is Hobi’s. Rap line do have the majority of songwriting credits on BTS songs as they write 95% of their own lyrics with Namjoon having the most contribution in lyrics (he wrote the lyrics for Begin, Serendipity, Epiphany etc), however Yoongi has produced more for BTS out of rap line. With JK and Tae having the most credits from Vocal line. For example in Run while rap line have credits for it so do Tae and JK for writing the bridge. I think I’ve seen someone else try to explain too but a lot of the time they get the theme, all the members or some of them write a melody, or lyrics for it and then the version that fits in best is chosen. Hence multiple versions exist. Same as for spring Day while Namjoon’s was chosen there is the ver that Tae wrote. Or for DNA there is Hobi’s demo version etc. or even JK’s version of the Bridge in Dis-ease. Or Jin’ Epiphany Demo ver. When they refer to Namjoon being the overall lyrics director… when songs are written Namjoon checks over all the lyrics… for example in Tae’s song Inner Child, the original version was ‘We won’t change’ but Namjoon felt that ‘We gone change’ would be a more positive message hence it was changed etc. As you mentioned interest in Tae’s music… his sound cloud uploads which are gifts for fans like Winter Bear, Scenery etc are his own compositions etc. Stigma, Inner Child he is the co. Writer. Singularity’s lyrics were written especially for him by Namjoon. So in every single BTS song while the main producer might not be them there is a contribution from BTS esp in the lyrics side of things, or melodies for specific parts. BE album was almost all entirely by them. They each had a role and lead a team with others working under their direction etc. It’s all very fascinating and why BE is especially special. For example Yoongi was in charge of the album design and packaging. Tae and Jimin had huge director roles. Tae was also in charge of their photoshoot concepts and schedules etc. JK directed the ‘Life goes on’ music video to name a few. There is vlives full of the planning stages where they divided roles, planning meetings, the BE Behind group interview plus individual interviews, the comeback specials etc that goes into it in detail. Thanks for this reaction.

One of my daughters suffers from severe anxiety/depression/bipolar and she was in the thick of a recovery from being shut in her bedroom for 2 yrs of her high school life, her anxiety went through the roof! So, this song means so much to us. She's struggling through her first year of college right now, but getting better every day. BTS has saved her life! BTS are the greatest performers alive. BTS is the best! There’s nothing like BTS! 💜💜💜

I love the energy of this song but to be honest, for quite a while I couldn't even remember the title, just that part with Jimin going 'Wooo" it sticks in your ear. Love the interview by V and how once again it underscores how the members make their music organically. Somebody feels or thinks of something, starts writing the melody, gets stuck and asks the other members for help. And RM is such a great leader, always available to the members. One other thing that is probably another secret to their success is that, even though most of the members help with the song, the originator's concept and "feel" is what comes through. Oh, and I've finally discovered Suga's mutant power - he doesn't have to breathe while rapping!

I was glad you watched David Explain the meaning of the song and that he talked about it being such a taboo in Korea to seek mental health, that you would be looked down upon, it’s so sad that Koreans are made to feel that way.
I know after the Itaewon Tragedy the spoke with a girl who had lost friends that night, I believe she was also there, anyway, they had asked if she would seek out mental health and she said no, all because of the stigma, this is most likely why they have the highest suicide rate in the OECD, just in 2021 they had 13 THOUSAND people take their own lives, that is just crazy, and with all the hate BTS has gotten over the years thank god they never let that get them down like several other Idols who have committed suicide.
Tae, wrote Blue & Grey originally as an all English song, but then the members wanted to add it to their BE album, so RM, Hobi, and Yoongi then were brought in to change it to a Korean/English song to be on this album, I am hoping that someday Tae does release his original version of the song, would be interested in seeing what he wrote, anyway, he wrote this because of the depression he had be going thru and I know that a close friend of his Lee Ui-soo had committed suicide in October 2017, he was only 22 yrs old, and in December of 2017 Jonghyun, another Idol, also committed suicide, he was 27 yrs old, both were suffering from depression, while I don’t think that Tae was close friends with him, they did know him from events they attended together, I also know that BTS said how shocked they were to here about his death. I can only imagine how hard attending that was for Tae, less than 2 months apart 2 suicides. I thank god that BTS are as close as they are, and that they write songs about social issues, that Yoongi is savage and doesn’t give a sh*t about what others say, he tells it like it is, as he’s talked about his own problems with mental health, I’m sure he was a great comfort to Tae when he was going thru hard times.
Thank you John for also sharing your difficult times with us, and that it’s ok to talk about these things, I believe you will also be a great source of comfort for those of us who may be having issues as well. Keep up the wonderful reactions and sharing your thoughts and feelings with all of us. 💜

When people say that V wrote Blue & Grey, they mean that he had the original idea for the topic/lyric theme and melody, wrote many of the vocal lines and wanted to include the song in his personal solo work. But he showed the (demo) song to the members and in-house producers and they loved it enough to put into a BTS album and start working on it. It’s important to know that all the rappers write their own lyrics for (as far as I know) all their rap verses. V did not write their rap verses for them. (Whenever Rm, Suga and/or j-hope have a rap verse in a song, you can see their name in the song writing credits.) That’s often a misconception - we love to give writing credit to the vocal line (as we should!) but should be more specific: in this case, V was the main songwriter of Blue & Grey, but worked with his friends (Ji Soo Park, Hiss Noise, Levi, Metaphor) and the rapline. J-hope was the main song-writer for Dis-Ease (he had the original idea and demo song and had a lot of power over recording decisions) but Suga and RM wrote their own lyrics, Jimin composed the bridge melody, and four other non-BTS people also helped write and produce it.
(Just like people love to say “RM wrote V’s solo Singularity in 30 minutes” which has many elements of truth to it, but forget to also mention Charlie J Perry, who’s listed as main song-writer and the only producer.)
If you’re curious about writing and producing credits, they’re listed in order of most to least participation on doolsetbangtan (and on Spotify/other official platforms). They’re very open about their collaborative team-focused song-writing process, and we should acknowledge that - it’s not taking away from their talent as musicians at all.
Dis-ease is an amazing song, thank you for dedicating this much time to it! It deserves all the appreciation.

Regarding song writing and composing; as far as I understand it (could be wrong, someone please comment if I am) for B&G in particular:
Tae intended it as a song for his mixtape. He co-composed (with individuals who are not BTS members) and wrote the lyrics in English.
However, once the group decided to include B&G in their BE album, Tae (?) decided to rewrite it in Hangul.
Rap line always write their own verses regardless of who composed and write the lyrics for the vocal line.
It’s the same here; Joon, Hobi and Yoongi wrote their own verses but submitted it to song owner (in this case Tae) to get his okay.
They talked about this during Tae-Yoongi BE interview as well as during group BE album Vlive.
I remember Joon grousing over the fact that he spent hours on suggestion for lyrics for vocal line but in the end Tae chose Yoongi’s.
Tae chose Yoongi’s due to the ‘Where’s my angel’ line
Also the BE interviews are so good! They know exactly what questions to ask.
My fav are Tae and Yoongi being interviewers.

The line from Yoongi that impressed Tae was " Don't say it's ok because it is not ok." Tae told Yoongi in their BE interview that was the lyric that made Tae rewrite some of the rest of the song. Where's my angel was always Tae's lyric from the beginning as he is the only member of Bangtan that has always believed in angels and mentions angels often in Run BTS.

John, what can I say, you are awesome. Of course I watched the whole thing. I love your channel and learn so much about BTS and their lyrics/music. I appreciate that you bring on people to dive deep into the lyrics. The translations can be lost at times and its good to know if I'm really "getting " what they want to convey. I also have anxiety and hearing that you do too makes me appreciate your honesty and upbeat attitude. Look forward to the next video.

Dis-ease is a great song. One of the favourites among ARMY and so menaingful and important.
Tae did write the original B&G; the rappers write their own lines, that is what JHope was referring to when saying he, Namjoon and SUGA wrote this. Tae said that he wrote the song in English with the help of Papago (Google translate in Korea) and bi-lingual friends (considering that some of the Wooga Squad can speak English/are native speakers of English we can assume he asked his friends from WS).
IMHO 𝗕𝗘 is one of the most underrated albums by BTS. Every song has so much meaning, even now after the pandemic. It is very personal, very deep and should have been a game changer in SK society. Additionally, ALL the BE interviews are so great. I love how they play off each other and are much more in depth and playful and interesting than any interview with the so-called professionals.

Rapline always writes their own Lyrics, Yoongi said multiple times that he won't work with Rappers not writing their own Songs and those people are disgrace to Hip Hop and Rap. That's why they threw Hobi in the Cold Water with no experience, and made him write his own things and work on his lyrics. Everything rapline raps and sings, since Day 1 are their own Words.

You should react to BE in full. It literally takes you through the ups and downs of the pandemic, and of course it has your favourite on there Life Goes On. It is such a hopeful album and was released on my birthday so is even more special to me!
And as for B&G, the rappers didn't write the actual song but of course they always get a writing credit for any track that contains their rap parts. Tae originally wrote it in English, you can hear him playing a bit of his original recording in an episode of 'In the Soop'.💜
