If you're rolling down a long hill don't use your brakes so much! What you're supposed to do is put the vehicle in a lower gear and then let the engine slow the car down. This also saves gasoline because in fuel injected engines, the fuel injectors will slow down, and let the momentum of the car turn the engine.
Going downhill, manually shift into a lower gear to use the engine/trans to hold the bus back, and slow down to 25-45 range depending on how steep/how many turns. You won't have to hit the brakes as hard/often.

After that I always went down the hill in a low enough gear so that I did not have to use the brakes at all. It was kind of slow going, but the brakes were always in good shape then, all the way down the hill.
