Subscribed ! Most definitely very helpful, professional guide and help. Question: Is metal or plastic icing guns great to use then plastic piping bags? Plus how to make these cake decorating icing which stands up well, not runny or too soft? How to make cake filling icing? Thank you ever so much :) Huge hugs to you :) ✨✨🎀❤🎀✨✨
Another clear and incredibly useful tutorial Emily! I have a question - I've had trouble with coloured buttercream changing colour when I use a heated metal comb to smooth it out. On a recent cake, it ended up darker than I wanted it to be as a result of that final smoothing. I know I could make the colour lighter to begin with but it's hard to predict what you'll end up with, and very tricky if you're trying to match the colour to something in particular. Any tips?
Yes, that is a challenge with using heat to smooth! It’s best to let the metal cool down slightly so that it’s just warm, not hot, because heat does make the buttercream darker and not always evenly, so the colour can become patchy. If I use a torch to heat the metal, I rub it with a towel before using it on the cake so that it’s not too hot
Thank you so much for these videos. They are so helpful 😊 you make it so simple and easy ❤
Thank you 😊
Thank you, Emily. I always forget about microwaving a little frosting and adding to thick frosting instead of adding more milk. It's a great idea!
Thank you ❤❤❤

@@BritishGirlBakes thank you! That makes sense. I'll give it go
Emily, can you give us a link to the plastic scraper you use? I always use metal, but would like to have a good plastic one as well. Thank you!
These are the ones I use! amzn.to/3QSmS4E
How long should I leave the crumb coat to set in the fridge before applying the top layer?
Until it's firm, usually around 30 minutes

I am in Sri Lanka, when the cake gets cold, the heat here causes the cake to sweat and then the icing melts, what should I do?
I hace the same question
In hot weather, melt a little chocolate and add it to the butter before adding the powdered sugar. Hope this helps.
@@deborahanderson3106 thank you!
What if you don’t have a microwave 1:44
You could do this on the stovetop instead.
Or over a bowl of very hot water - just to melt the buttercream a little
Ahh! So the trick is using a torch on a metal cake smoother to avoid leaving lines behind on your cake!
I think I am always been using buttercream that is too thick! I think consistency is the most important.
I love cream cheese frosting but I can never get it to look like the buttercream…more firm!!!
