Outside In: Exploring the Margins of Art, with Marc Steene and Grayson Perry

Founder and Director of Outside in Marc Steene joined artist and author Grayson Perry to share insights on the compelling work of ‘outsider’ artists and contemporary talents, highlighting the significance of inclusivity and change in the art world.
Through the lens of art rescued from European asylums, Madge Gill’s spirit-guided creations, Rakibul Chowdhury’s fascination with popular culture, and Drew Fox’s ethereal pieces born from near-death experiences, this talk explored the necessity of creativity by people on the periphery.
The exclusive global art market is one which few aspiring artists managed to penetrate. How, then, could a creative person with virtually no arts engagement or formal training, perhaps with mental or other significant health issues, disability, or experiencing difficult social circumstances, find a way in?
