- Dr. Heinz Migeod passed away on 18 November 2010.
It happened suddenly and unexpected.
We will all miss Heinz very much.
Sincere condolences to Mrs. Migeod. Dagmar. Friedrich and Klaus.
This 3 minute video is a tribute to the life of our friend.
All historical photographs in the video are from Heinz's personal collection.
Such a fitting tribute to a hero of the German nation. His family must be very proud of him. May God bless his soul....
A fine gentleman, physician, family man and Luftwaffe warrior who lived a long and exciting life. Glad we have his recorded history!
What a wonderful tribute to your dear friend. He was a very brave man and a very fitting tribute to him. Brilliant photos and his family can be very proud of him. What a lovely way to remember him. So many people these days seem to be afraid to talk about their Grandfather's tine in the war, it's very sad as they forget that all those men fought hard and so many of them lost their lives. It doesn't matter what side they were on they all sacrifice so much God bless them and thank you for sharing this video with us ❤👍
The world will never see men of this breed ever again, it’s impossible to fill their shoes
RIP Heinz I will remember your stories and I will tell them to my children one day. A real soldier!
Einverstanden, ohne weiteres. Pflichtsgetreu und richtiges soldatisches Verhalen. Ein Beispiel.
Give me a break. He fought for a Murderer.
Semsem Eini shut uo
@@semsemeini7905 He fought for the son of Europe.
@@semsemeini7905 If it wasn't for his likes Europe wouldve been ravaged deeper by communism. For this the Germans and later the Americans are enternal heroes.
I’m English, and I’m touched by this video.
Once, I had a comrade -
u won't find a better oene
the drums, they beat to quarters - he was at my side
the same pace as me
a bullet came flying by
to me or 2 him ?
it teared him away from me - as , if it where me
he tries to hold the hand of me
whilst I load me gun
cannot reach you - my comerade
stay in heaven and be blessed
That was very moving. A brave soldier simply doing his duty. I'm amazed he survived the war considering the many different theatres he fought in.
I just finished watching all his interviews. What an well spoken hero he was. It's sad he died so unexpected, he seemed very vital in the interview
Ich danke Heinz Migeod für den selbstlosen Einsatz seines Lebens zur Verteidigung unseres Vaterlandes.
Here's the English translation:
I once had a comrade,
You will find no better.
The drum called to battle,
He walked at my side,
In the same pace and step.
A bullet came a-flying,
Is my turn or yours?
He was swept away,
He lies at my feet,
Like it were a part of me.
He still reaches out his hand to me,
While I am about to reload.
I cannot hold onto your hand,
You stay in eternal life)
My good comrade.
Listened to your interviews with interest. Well spoken and an obvious gentleman. Rest in Peace
The videos of him were absolutely inspiring and fascinating. He was a briliant man. He was taken from us so soon after the footage to his eternal home.
Respekt.
Such an honour to listen to his memories before they where lost for good, I remember my opa talking about life in the Luftwaffe in recon then in fighters .. what they went thru was amazing
Respects from Denmark. What a great pilot and what a amiable sympathic man.
Ruhe in Frieden, Heinz. Mein Großvater hatte die selbe Erzählweise wie er, die Videos mit Heinz zu sehen erinnert mich an meinen Großvater welcher als Aufklärungsfotograf bei der Luftwaffe gedient hat.
Salute and Respect. Thank you for sharing part of his life. Thank you for your service.
good to see that at least a few of our brothers, fathers and grandfathers came home alive
Reaching the end of this series once more thank you very much and rest in peace Heinz.
Ruhe in Frieden Heinz. Best regads from Germany
...Thank You So Much for sharing this marvelous series of interviews with Dr. Heinz Migeod.....Such an elegant, strong, and honest man.....Best to You and to Dr. Migeod's entire family.....
We need this type of interview with as many vets as possible before it is too late... Hearing these veterans storys makes me think I haven't really pushed the boat out at all in life.. Just happy getting by.. When I should be taking every breath of air likes it my last... I teared up seeing that last picture I don't no why
Rest in peace, may your soul be at ease.
To many Ex-German soldiers from WW2 are misunderstood and mistreated, I hope that these interviews will help people see that they were humans, too.
+Cat418 watching them now!
The Germans then where as decent as they are now.
it was nice to see the finality of this pilots life. I have read various books on the young girls of Germany, as especially the BDM. As they were my generation. These people-like in all nations-follow the propaganda of politics.. Only (10%) were hard core NAZIs. In the (1930's) various generals wanted to overthrow Hitler. Yet it only took a few to manipulate and cause the death of 50 million souls. The greatest loss of life in the History of mankind. My late husband flew during WW2. His plane had no ammunition. The German pilots who followed him over Scotland new this. They were ATC American pilots carrying equipment and GIs.they could have been blown out of the skies by the Luftwaffe pilots/Yet there were atrocities in Russia and Poland by the Germans. An interesting read is the German POWs in this country. We did however meet German pilots back in the late 70s. Another funny story was the U-boat coming up Long Island sound to get supplies for the boat an crews...they would shop in the stores in Norwalk,Ct. One captain liked the area so much, after the war he came there to live....was a bar tender at a Yacht Club in Westport.Norwalk Ct area.
Nice story !

* i totally agree
What an amazing and in-depth interview! Thank you Mr. Tinus le Roux for sharing this exceptional historical record with those of us who recognize the value and significance of it. I kept marveling at how sharp and precise this 92 year old gentleman was when recalling his experiences. There are several questions that arise from the interactions of Herr Migeod with Mr. le Roux that I would have loved to have pursued. Perhaps Tinus could clarify some that I would have asked Herr Migeod, if in fact he already asked him. Was so sorry to see that he died so suddenly. Throughout his extensive recollections, I was curious if he may still be with us, given how acute his mental capacity still was and how well his physical condition appeared to be. I was even hoping that I may be able to contact him directly, but sadly that will never be.
One thing strikes me having recently started watching these interviews with WWII German pilots: just how intellectually impressive so many are and how professionally they conduct themselves. I can't help but think that they truly were superior in so many ways.
My grandfather who fought in Albania with the Greek army, on his attempt to return to his wife and four children in Crete after Greece fell but before Crete was under German occupation he and 15 - 20 other Cretans had got into a small boat near Piraeus that would take them to Crete.
A couple of miles away from Piraeus he heard the sound of a Stuka. He and an army captain jumped on a dinghy boat that the boat was pooling and with the knife which my grandfather was always carrying cut the rope. The plane released a bomb which hit the main boat leaving no survivors.
When the captain and he reached the shore they were arrested by the Germans who were leading them to kommandantur probably to be executed. While waking at the alleys of Piraeus he noticed that the guards had loosened up and run for his escape. Heavy firing followed but he managed to found shelter in the warehouse, The landlord of the house and his wife didn’t turn him in to the Germans and helped him.
Seeing the pictures of the airfield in Greece I can’t help wondering if the plane which bombed the boat belonged in his squadron or even if maybe Mr. Heinz was flying it.
By watching our old enemy I feel only sorrow that these generations had to go through a world war. Life is a spark of light between the darkness before we were born and the darkenss after we die, it is sad they had to waste it on a war.
I am really sorry to hear Mr Heinz died. My condolences to his family.
The people who fought during the II word war were our best insurance that such awful things wouldn’t be happening again.
Now that last of them are slowly leaving us we can only hope they taught us well.

All wars are banksters' wars and the world has been in a continuous state of war since the end of ww2...
The history of ww2 is a pack of lies and we have learnt nothing.
Tika Sen....YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY A GREAT IDIOT.
@@mrktyb Not only are you obviously uneducated and biased on matters pertaining to WW2 in the Balkans, but you are bigoted too... How you managed to involve modern politics and stereotypical misconceptions with a *very* plausible narrative (at least for those who know a thing or two about what really happened) is beyond my comprehension. Europe is in no need of people with your kind of bigoted narrow-mindedness...
@@Freawulf What Tika Sen posted was stupid and an insult to my family. My great great uncle fought the Germans in Greece while serving as a sergeant in the Royal Yugoslav Army and during the retreat he was captured. He was a veteran of both world wars.
@@Freawulf from what ive seen people that use the personal insults you used cant be believed.

Thank you for sharing. His interviews are fascinating.
Thank you … May this Gentleman rest in peace.
Amazing series! Thank you so very much.
RIP- Thank you for the wonderful interviews with this fine gentleman. My condolences to his family.
I watched many of his World War II interviews/discussions. He was a man of great character. The kind of man we would want to be friends with. A man to be respected despite being on the wrong team- ha!
I'm thankful he did the interview he did. It's important - regardless of the side he fought on - to hear, to know about the war.
Truly an Officer and a Gentleman!
Great and wel deserved tribute.
Ruhe in Frieden Heinz (Legende)
I have watched many of the interviews. Absolutely amazing man and amazing story. Excellent work on the document

R.I.P Ruhe in Frieden, mein Herr!
Very well done and most respectful. You did a great job. Thank you for sharing with us.
Rest in peace, sir
You were a fine man. Better than most of your enemies. South Africa fought on the wrong side, we see that everyday.
You are not guilty before the Almighty.
Wich I could shake your hand.
Nice work Tinus. Thanks.
RIP ans REspect Herr Migleod.

rocking the SS hair to the bitter end
Lindholmer5k Great hair never goes out of style. Migeod, along with Hans Ulrich-Rudel and Werner 'Vati" Molders, were among a handful of the German men who had The Right Stuff. They were the real deal.
Kain Nosgoth Im sure, i just find the whole glory and honor thing somewhat ironic, and even idiotic. There is not anything honorable killing. If there is honor in war, it is with the red cross, doctors without borders, and various other organisations that go in, unarmed to help thos who need it the most. Dont get me wrong tho, i very much like this guys stories, to hear them from the source.
Lindholmer5k Understood, war's not a good thing. But what people need to realize is that the Allies hold a lot of fault for it. Post WW1 Germans under the Treaty Of Versailles lived in total squalor and poverty and no law existed as crime and unemployment were very high. It was nothing more than rivalry-fueled retribution. And that anger and despair came back to haunt them in 1939.
Had the Allies been fairer instead of being interested in exterminating the Germans thru legal means, maybe WW2 wouldn't have come to bear. It's not the clear textbook case of good and evil that classroom curriculum (aka "storybooks") usually promote. War doesn't happen by itself.
@@Lindholmer5k So all the soldiers who died defending their loved ones, family, friends, compatriots, in the war had no honour? You're telling me the millions of French, Russian, British, American, Polish, and other soldiers defending their homes from the aggression and brutality of the axis powers and even SACRIFICED their lives so that their children might live to see a better future of peace and in a world without the racism and discrimination of the Nazis, were never, I repeat, never honourable and good men? Just because they were forced into a war where victory is only gained by killing?
I sincerely hope you meant the ones who start wars, who initiate wars and pioneer the death of thousands of lives in your statement. I do not condone war. I hate it, it is absolutely disgusting and tragic, however I have the utmost respect and admiration for those HONORABLE, GOOD men who DEFENDED their countries and homes in WW2. If you DARE even suggest or insinuate that they were scum with no honor, you have just spit on the memory and legacy of the millions who have perished in order to bring about the good future we have today.
Please, word your sentiments carefully next time. Because what you had said was simply the most disrespectful thing I have witnessed regarding the men-in-arms who defended our lives from Nazi aggression.
I have seen only recently many of his interviews and I am sorry that I didn't see them before. Yes, he seems to have been a good man that was doing his duty and more or less hes been flying over where my Italian grandfather has been been as a captain of an emergency unit. May he R.I.P. in good company with his komrads and friends...
I am very glad that he has been interviewed before passing away giving a a very interesting piece of history!
You fought for your country sir...and thats good enough.....much respect
Beautiful tribute. RIP Heinz Migeod r
Thank you for sharing this man's amazing story, told in his own words. His memory in his final year was amazingly sharp and clear. It is a historical testament that is irreplaceable.
r.i.p. Heinz. God bless. An absolute honour to hear these stories
My appreciation to Mr le Roux who has done a fantastic job -and with great foresight catching just in time-the memoirs of Doktor Migeod-a fascinating pilot who has described so vividly his wartime experience.
I interviewed a German Major decorated who became my friend- and was highly decorated with the German Cross in Gold-I gave it to the Imperial War museum who wanted it for their records.
When this man's country called he did not hesitate. He did not fight because he hated his enemy, he fought because he loved his heimat.
Honorable man. My respect to him.
Beautiful and historical video....
sadly one more is gone.
Rest in Peace Heinz......

His interviews were some of the most interesting things I have ever seen on you-tube. Another one leaves us. :-(

Such a beautiful video. May he rest in peace in the arms of God.
Niemand geht so einfach ganz, auch die Helden nicht, ihr Vermächtnis soll bleiben.
Rest In Peace. Great man, loved his story… 🫡
Ich Hatt' einen Kameraden is one of the finest songs to honor fallen soldiers; it chokes me up. Politics is violence and voting for politicians only facilitates violence. Remember, the make, model or flavor of the politician is not the discriminator; it is the mere fact that he is a politician, a leader, that makes him dangerous. More so is the fact that most politicians are not Christians. Certainly here in the US the majority of politicians are commie/socialists and they have brought pain and suffering on all. Thanks for posting. Respects to the Migeod survivors. Good on ya mates.
I am indeed proud to have bloodlines from Germany, knowing that such a kind and professional man as Herr Migeod was a representative of the German military. But above all else, German military personnel were just that, true professionals.
Mis respetos y admiracion para el y todos los camaradas que lucharon por el bien. Saludos desde Mexico.

Megeod survived the War due to his good fortune of being shot down and taken prisoner relatively earlier in the conflict. Had he remained on active duty, he - like most of his comrades - probably would have never reached old age. He also had the most fortuitous luck at being taken by the British, rather than the half-human Soviets..
RIP HERR Migeod 🙏🏻
All brave men from both side. They all did what they had to do for their country.
