The dance moves, the facial expressions, the intonation of the "spoken words", the confident but non-arrogant attitude.... Waaw, this is a complete performance, and that in a super small setting.

@@littleghostfilms3012 Accepted. I agree that people who place comments to bring artists (or anybody else) down, are a sad side-effect on social media. Somehow "Supermarket Sweep" landed on my stream in the living room. I was doing the dishes in the kitchen 3 rooms away and hardly heard something. But when the refrain started I went like "wait... what?", rushed into the living room, grabbed my phone and made a screenshot. I´m so glad that I luckily still heard the music in the kitchen.
There is no way to describe Bill Nomates to your own mates, which is always an indicator of something truly remarkable and worthy of your time. I cannot wait to see her on the upcoming tour. I can't wait to feel what it is like to be in the room live with that stage presence, I haven't been this excited for a music act since I first saw Enter Shikari. I love her particular way, she reminds my second daughter (aged eight); a certain kind of lovely scruffiness, strong personality, sophistication (although hopefully, Billy Nomates doesn't get herself into as much trouble as my adorable delinquent does), the kid found wandering around the building site on their own.....
I'm over 2 years late getting aware of Billy/Tor, but wow! what a talent! Got the album, love the 'Mods' .. what a fantastic combination! Looking forward to seeing her live.
I hear the Stranglers, Mark E. Smith & Chrissie Hynde and a whole lot of blues updated for 2020. And yeah,, Sleaford Mods brought me here. I am so glad i discovered this! This is awesome and real!
This is micro-cabaret for the ones who get shut out and shit on. She's got Gil Scott Heron, Patti Smith, Liza Minnelli, Amy Taylor, and Christ knows who else bubbling up through her. Simply jaw dropping talent!! Lest I forget.....Fiona Apple!
@@kathyquatannens9869 I had never heard of Anne Clark before so I watched a video of her performing Our Darkness. Really, really good!! I see the similarity of performance/content style. Thank you very much for the reference. I will listen to more of her.
I'm an old bloke who entered adulthood in the late 70s/early 80s influenced by The Slits, Au Pairs, Delta 5, Girls At Our Best, etc.. Strong female agit-pop bands who mattered in a political music scene orbiting the Gang of 4 and Mekons... Now today, I've just heard Billy Nomates for the first time. Whether or not she, or her young fans are aware of the existence and legacy of those band from 4 decades ago, this is what 2020 needs right now... Also she don't care that dance poses which look cool in videos are well peculiar in a small record shop.. Now that's proper attitude.. I like that.
Great artist uniquelly talented melodically lyrically and visually. I would love to see Billy do a gig covered in illumionous paint or a reflective hi vi material onesey type overalls on a completely blacked out stage, I think she would be amazing in that kind of setting, her articulated body gestures would really come to life in a very visual animated way.
she did quite a few covers, demos & doodles that were briefly up on her Bandcamp, so I assume this is one of those (though one of the lines sounds like it was reworked into the album opener)
No, my first impression as well.. Stranglers were my first 'punk gig' back in 77... Maybe also a female singer from the 1970s with a similar style, but I still can't accurately recall who. Annette Peacock...?????
I mean, theres the obvious Sleaford Mods thing .... but i',m also getting a lot of Iggy Pop here. Majorly talented "youngster" (this coming from a music obsessed "old fart")
you could be on to something there. most Brits kidding themselves their lives are better than they are/things are not as shite as they're being told, so perhaps it's not too much of a stretch to say a few home truths are getting ignored about their own behaviours and attitudes too. helps to get through the day maybe but doesn't help to progress things to a better state. some just don't like change. classic brit stick-in-the-mud. made my bed and i'm gonna lie in it. wish i didn't have this attitude in some aspects of my life, being honest. it's one thing recognising it though but an altogether other thing entirely to shift that repetitive cycle of thoughts & (in)actions... britain is fucked and dying a slow death... and i dunno what the world is doing looking down its nose at us as from where i'm stood, things ain't too great elsewhere either. maybe NZ is an exception but then i'm sure you'll inform me of internal problems that don't get publicised globally...
