Despite the age of this video, thanks very much for the information. I order this wing from Hobbyking, last week....should be here today. I've been flying planes, wings, helicopters, and quads for several years now.....so I'm not a rookie, but it's always great to get someone else's insight on a new plane. Thanks for all that you do, Matt! I'm looking forward to flying this wing.
Howdy, for 100% clarity I reccomend you buy the KIT version here goo.gl/d7dq9W and NOT the PNF version. The reason for this is because you get to CHOOSE the parts that go in it, which are mostly likely to be of a higher quality. And of course THANK YOU to everyone who spotted my wording screw up in this episode :) Matt
RagTheNutsOff i have the upgraded kit version that appears to have a 2205 2300 KV motor in it that appears to be decent quality the only thing I question is the ESC and I do have a 30 amp Wing ESC that I will be using per your recommendation.. unless you think that using something like an Aikon 30 amp , quality esc of the same size would be sufficient? Thanks again
Thanks again Matt. i always look to see if you or Andrew Newton have made the model before, for all your great tips. I think you two are the best reviewers going on RUclips. Putitng mine together tonight. Also Matt if you need a new Mini Talon, thay are £39 something at Banggood EU Warehouse right now. So you get that faster free delivery aswell. Thanks again. Keith.
RagTheNutsOff. Shes half done. Loverly foam. Wish thay were all made of that foam. Super strong wing when built. Strongest wing i have ever had. Liking it loads. Put electronics in her today Matt. Keith.
Wow, Great info! Thanks for the tips. I was watching iforce2d's S800 'Sky Shadow' maiden flight vid. it went weird and almost crashed, he was think it was the stabilizer that interfered. I tried flying the Eachine assassin quad but had a lot of problems. The first one just suddenly went sideways and crashed bad, I realized the ESC was cutting out. I got a second one and the magnetometer drifts like mad. I hate seeing these flown close to people for that exact reason. I like quads and helis but I think this might be a better start for FPV. Thanks again for the tips.
Howdy fella, they're almost indestructible, check out my other episodes on this wing. Full speed on 4S into a tree, yea it needed some love afterwards, but it flew again :D Matt
Matt thanks for more great info regarding this model, just 2 things one regarding the ESC bay, you didn't use it because of the size I'm guessing can't someone dig out some foam to make room to fit a plane ESC, which brings me to the same question to fitting a bigger battery in the top bay, cut some foam out to fit larger batteries. Only reason I ask is I'm looking for a 3s wing for long fpv flights without busting my bank account.
Howdy John, the SkyShadow will fly quite a distance, but you are limited by the battery bay (there is little to no foam to cut out). If you're looking for distance, then the C1 Chaser might be a good alternative if price is a concern. See here ruclips.net/video/FQaD32q9E8U/видео.html Matt
One less wing for the new shelving. And another two arriving to replace it. Jeez Matt, you will need to build a shed for your hanger storage. 25 and counting in NZ so I can't talk.
Great video. I have the Z-84 with FPV and pixhawk. Have you done a pros vs cons between this and the Z-84? You mentioned that you don't recommend using a quad ESC. Can you elaborate why? I use them, they are lighter and they don't get hot, and I am under the impression that they are more efficient. Thank you!
Howdy fella, Nope I've not done a comparison to the Z-84. As for the Quad ESC's, I believe I discuss them in this episode, I might be wrong, but if you're not aware quad ESC's have cooling from the props right above them, in a model like this it's either under the wing or in the fuse, thus a severe lack of cooling, A dedicated plane ESC is the far better choice for a wing as it's a plane not a quad. Hope that helps! Matt
Matthew Ogborne thank you. Yes you mentioned the esc but I am under the impression that they use a different technology. In quads many sandwich them between double sided tape which is thick and effectively blocking any cooling. Which you liked better this or the z84 ?
OooooO good question! The SkyShadow I flew into a tree at ~100mph and it survived, see here ruclips.net/video/Wdg1fJC3SqY/видео.html. But the Z-84 is one of the best models ever made. Hard choice. But for me, the Z-84. Matt
In regards to BLHELI_S ESCs I asked @night_ghost who I consider an uber guru in all RC hardware and firmware. > I mostly fly fixed wings and I started using blheli_s ESCs which are much lighter, they generate less heat and subjectively seem to be more energy efficient than typical fixed wing ESCs. Do you know why and how are they different? And this is what he said: > First, new ESC uses the best MOSFETs so has minimal power loss in static (maximal MOSFET current more than 100A in 20A ESC is typical) > 2nd, they uses integrated MOSFET drivers instead of a heap of discrete parts - so they has fast switch time and low power loss on dynamics > 3rd, Blheli-S ESC uses CPU with hardware PWM so they runs much more smooth and efficient at CPU side www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2784349-Ardupilot-on-OpenPilot-Revolution/page24
hi i got the kit version, and it only came with the red flat board and a little chip as well, tryed to get my head round how to wire it up,and baffles me so can you plz help how to wire it up thx mark from the uk..
Thanks Matt, i have ordered the S800 kit, 2 9g MG servo`s and a 2204 2300 motor, i have some HK 30amp blue esc`s so hope i can use one of them, and plan on putting my Amkov gopro clone in the front, its a heavy camera, does this sound a plan?
Lol making a vid to justify new purchasing lmao I feel u 100!! I have mine ready for the electronics to be added, I have far to many questions and im a new wing flyer from the quad world, watched all your vids on this build twice and will be re watching as i do my initial setup, then possibly Inav. Thanks for all the great tips again.. one
Howdy matt, having killed the Tek sumo on maiden, i am going back to the S800, putting the sunnysky R2205 2500 motor in, fitting a Mobius on top hatch, i have to redo wing joints as i used epoxy and was wrong choce, would you advise gluing wings to body so its a rigid set up, or keep them removable ?
Matthew Ogborne Hi Matt, you mentioned some glue in your comments. Is it Zap Goop that you were talking about? Can you please put some link for the glue as well?
great vid... do i need a flight controller in order to put this kit together? i build racing and fpv drones but dont anything about fixed wings, cheers
Morning, absolutely not needed. Also if you're coming from quads the S800 is the perfect choice, it can take an untold number of slaps into the ground and trees and still carry on flying afterwards. Hope that helps fella, Matt
Brother I really Dont Think that you've ever Flown a Scratch build plane !! Have you !?If you have then you know that Us rc Pilots are not so much like the rest of the bunch :) we Compromise a lot :). You find a piece of Plastic while walking and you got this idea that this makes a really good and strong Camera Housing or motor mount or some of wife's kich. gadgets becomes a part of your plane. So if you have a Esc which is smaller than it should even thou it is annoying but we always make them work. the Esc under the plane is a good place until you land on a wet surface :) Thank you for sharing. love your video's
Howdy fella, yea it's fine, just don't leave it in the sun. As for the best glue, I used Goop glue and that worked fine, even after stuffing it in a tree at +90mph, see here ruclips.net/video/Wdg1fJC3SqY/видео.html Matt
please help me out what esc would you recommend on banggood??..it is hard to order from other places in my country so i normally just order from banggood please help me out
Howdy Neal, you'll need at least a 30A ESC. I've used these before, they're good ones www.banggood.com/Emax-Simonk-Series-12A-20A-25A-30A-40A-ESC-For-Quadcopter-QAV-250-p-918126.html?rmmds=search Hope that helps! Matt
your the man!!!..i fly quads for a few monthes now,so this would be my first wing on the way lol your videos make me spend money..thanks for your videos you are one cool dude
Howdy Rick, I tend always buy just the kits of models rather than the PNF versions, gives me choice over what goes in the model. The only recent exceptions have been the EFXTra and the Mini Drak, both came to me with motors & an ESC. Matt
Morning Lisa, I can't remember the exact CG point, as on mine I put pins in where the manual said it was and it flew fine there. Hope that helps Lisa, Matt
Howdy Abdul, sorry I am unable to offer email "support", check the iNav series and the video where you are required to check the surface movements, Matt

Ewww looks like they only do them in pairs now here www.banggood.com/One-Pair-DYS-SE2205-2300KV-3-5S-Brushless-Motor-CW-CCW-for-FPV-Racing-p-1043442.html?rmmds=search they are mental motors!
something I just realized, you blink an awful lot :). Nice review though. I ordered the PNP as I am don't feel proficient enough to get my own components
mmm. you mean buy the KIT version not the PNP version ? ruclips.net/video/4KhCeBOsk4E/видео.htmlm49s I will continue to watch but I assume you got confused.
Matt I am a little bit disappointed with you :( LOL No seriously I have been searching a lot for in deep reviews and LOS flight footage of the micro rainbow wing. I know you have mentioned and a friend of you uploaded a video but is not enough I would love to see a more complete video about it and also would like to see what is your opinion on the fake towerpro MG servos from BG I bought many just to discover the have a plastic gear inside. opened 14 all of them have a plastic gear making the linkage between the motor and the metal servos :( IMHO that kills the purpose of it, and that is why you have broken so many
Howdy fella, na I broke those servos at the extremes, I'd have broken 10 times as many plastic ones. I was going through at least 6 plastic servos a week at one point! As for the Rainbow 600 wing, I've just been flying it! She's amazing for whizzing around the front in a small space :)
Despite the age of this video, thanks very much for the information. I order this wing from Hobbyking, last week....should be here today. +mountaindewdude76 Afternoony! Yea it’s a fab wing that’s for sure. That one left, but I have a V2 and it’s staying till I destroy it. Have fun! Matt
Howdy, for 100% clarity I reccomend you buy the KIT version here goo.gl/d7dq9W and NOT the PNF version. Morning Keith, you'll like this one, she does fly fast. And yep already completed build of mini Talon #2. Happy flying Keith! Matt

Hi Matt. Do you sltill remember the throws and expo for fpv on this wing? Just finished mine :) Thanks in advance.
Mine spent a few days in a tree! I got it down finally, put a new battery in it, and flew it away:)
One less wing for the new shelving. And another two arriving to replace it.
Jeez Matt, you will need to build a shed for your hanger storage.
25 and counting in NZ so I can't talk.
Howdy Jo, a fellow addict, brilliant! Matt
Great video.

Hey Mark, yes, simply throw it away and ignore it. Matt
Great video, thinking of getting one as my first wing, i see on banggood site it says it dont come with motor mount, would this be an issue
Howdy Julian, yea they stopped including the stand-offs. I'm not sure why. It should be fine without them, just noisier. Matt
??? ... Whats a "descriotion?? " LOL!! Nice review, Lands well, does it???
Welcome to my world of typing :P Matt
My servos doesnt work with Inav. Did I forget anything. I mounted em to the pwm motor tab 3 and four. Nothing happens. :(
Hi Alice, see the series I did on iNav, Matt

Howdy Julian, you could tape them on and that would work and also make it portable too. I glued mine on though :) Matt
Matthew Ogborne
Hi Matt, you mentioned some glue in your comments. Is it Zap Goop that you were talking about? Can you please put some link for the glue as well?
Funny video, but excellent advise, and good to watch. Terry
Thanks Terry!

Morning, yep I've made and flown a couple, see the K-Fu and XFL-K-Fu as examples on this channel. And yea the ESC on the bottom is nuts, Matt
I believe you Brother :) One has to try it sometimes to understand :) Keep up the good work.....:)
Hi, sorry but I did not understood what kind of glue should I use? Thanks.
Howdy, Goop plumbing glue. Just look it up on eBay, Amazon or in the Googler. Matt
Hi... do you reckon these are OK for beginners?
I fly quads, never flown planes before except on RC simulators on my PC.
Howdy K, I flew mine into a tree at ~100mph and it survived. So is it good for beginners, yea they're pretty tough and fly rather well too, Matt
Good honest review ,great wing.Cheers .
Howdy Jake, thanks fella :) Matt
This wing is awsome
Is flight controller missing from the video description?
Howdy fella, nope. I didn't ever run one in the S800, Matt
What's the best way to fix the servos into the wings?
Howdy fella, I used hot glue on mine so they could come out again if needed. Matt
Thanks for the reply mate. Hot glue is secure enough? And another question whats the best glue to use for the wood motor mount to the body/fuselage?
Howdy fella, yea it's fine, just don't leave it in the sun. As for the best glue, I used Goop glue and that worked fine, even after stuffing it in a tree at +90mph, see here ruclips.net/video/Wdg1fJC3SqY/видео.html Matt

Can you do a tour of your office??
Howdy J, I will do at some point, more pressing episodes to get out for now :) Matt
Very helpful mate
Happy days! Matt
Nice info thanks
hi what is the correct cg
+Sean Andrews Morning Sean, whatever it says on the box was right for me, even with the V2. Matt
I've heard that the KIT parts are junk also.
Howdy Rick, I tend always buy just the kits of models rather than the PNF versions, gives me choice over what goes in the model. The only recent exceptions have been the EFXTra and the Mini Drak, both came to me with motors & an ESC. Matt
Mine was a kit. I did modify the motor mount a bit with blind nuts rather than the stand offs. Yet to maiden. Will report after first flight tomorrow.
I think your Mrs has seen through your 2 for 1 deals by now !!!
HA she has indeed! They're here on the floor already :)
Where is the perfect cg point
Morning Lisa, I can't remember the exact CG point, as on mine I put pins in where the manual said it was and it flew fine there. Hope that helps Lisa, Matt
my wing s800 when rth not climb but fly down. may i send inav setting to your email. please info your email

The price for buying the kit then & then quality parts is rising compared to the PNP version. Is the PNP version that bad?
something I just realized, you blink an awful lot :). Nice review though. I ordered the PNP as I am don't feel proficient enough to get my own components
Howdy Florian, yea its the super bright light that you can't see behind the camera. You'll enjoy it, it flew great! Matt
mmm. you mean buy the KIT version not the PNP version ? ruclips.net/video/4KhCeBOsk4E/видео.htmlm49s I will continue to watch but I assume you got confused.
Howdy, yea my bad, buy the KIT version, not the PNP one! Matt

My motor was ok, so i think i was lucky.
Howdy Andrew, yea I went for my own kit. Defintely the way to go! Matt
