Feels like the Demna x Balenciaga story is coming to an end. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned most of the show felt like Vetements; this is the first show that felt like it had almost nothing to do with Cristobal or the House of Balenciaga. Demna seems to be diving deeper into his world of observational, ironic fashion, Kering is enjoying the profit that Demna is turning for them and is willing to shell out to help Demna realize his vision, but how is this relevant to Balenciaga?? I guess time will tell! thanks for the video!

the theme was La and i think he did some very interesting things with the given theme, and at the end some looks resembled old balenciaga stuff, and for me the collection represented normal la peoples, high class celebreties and homeless people so he represented the whole community from la

@@louisvau4132but the collection is still pretty much the same as the last 5 collections.

1:13 That's actually a great idea for a regular or a yearly series.
If possible can you review collections of your juniors/peers/alums from CSM?
    OR
Do you know any channel that reviews the graduate collections from top fashion schools?
I would watch both options with relish btw :)

Being one who has been in L.A. County since a child in the 60s, the one-stroke painting/narrative that has been created of L.A. is tiring. And I wish that designers and others would stop playing into the narrative. L.A. is a huge diverse county consisting of eighty-eight cities.
As for Erewhon, I've shopped it on and off for over forty years. Nothing new. It was started by Michio and Aveline Kushi and has been here in L.A. since the late 60s when I was in middle school. Michio and Aveline were leaders in the macrobiotic movement which was strong here in L.A. in the 1980s as I was macro back then. I met them in 1985 at a macrobiotic retreat. The market carried a lot of macrobiotic food items. It was sold around the late 70s and then again in the 2000s, I think it was.
As for prices, yes, there can be expensive items. However, what I shop for, and with comparing apples to apples, costs basically the same as at other markets where I shop.
Regarding Whole Foods, it started up in Austin, Texas in 1980. But, here in L.A., we had Mrs. Gooch's which started up around 1976 and expanded to around seven health-related supermarkets across L.A. County. Sandy Gooch founded her supermarkets and was a pioneer in the industry. I shopped her supermarkets from the beginning to the end in 1993 when Whole Foods bought her out. There were a lot of smaller health-food markets in both the 70s and also in the 60s when I was a kid.
As for Balenciaga and the whole so-called L.A. vibe, fashion show, I'm not thrilled at all.
As for your mention of South African designers and Thebe Magugu, I love his work and was able to get a hold of a coat from his 2022 collection when it went on sale. I treasure that coat. I wish it were easier to get his pieces.
    Greetings from Los Angeles

I think a more appropriate theme is “LA “culture” through the lens of a tabloid or the media.” Maybe LA celebrity culture but you’re right. LA is so diverse!

Balenciaga's collection is giving Brian Yuzna's Society (1989) vibe. EDIT: as someone said in the chat, Demna's Balenciaga is the same Hellraiser party in Berghain with Eastern European thugs as security.

I talked with someone who attended the Balenciaga show, and they said that the fitting on the clothes was EVERYTHING, and that made it next level. I asked, how? Bc stretch fabrics, gym clothes…really? And they said yes, that the athleisure looks were like bespoke in how well they fit each model, how the garments flattered the model. Okay… maybe it’s an “you had to be there” moment, or when the clothes drop at the shops, and people try them on, the garments will sell like hotcakes bc the fit is so excellent 🤷🏻‍♀️

Am I tripping or Kering now repurposes items from other brands? I’ve noticed that recent Gucci pumps seem to be made with the same last as YSL shoes, and oversized jackets in this collection look like ones from YSL men’s SS24? Like it’s not just a ‘trend’

    • @jhoover3098
      @jhoover3098 8 месяцев назад +2

That’s very interesting. Thank you, I’m going to look out for that. It could be bc they’re all using the same factories… but I’d love to know if it’s more than that.

@@jhoover3098 after getting familiar with Kering produce I was surprised how similar their offerings are to Lego, as if different brands were like different Lego themes, and they reuse and repurpose certain things or fabrics across brands. I recently saw Erewhon T-shirt review, it looks like current Rive Droite YSL Juergen Teller T-shirt, like exactly and made in Portugal as well. That brings a question of how much designer actually influences the brand, or there are internal optimizations made by marketing teams, fabric stockists and manufacturers to cut costs.

Evidently in NY, no one is buying Balenciaga, and even the big resale presence there, the Balenciaga items are getting marked down a lot. It’s great for people who love early Demna at Balenciaga bc you can snap up the looks quite reasonably.

I love researching business. I binge watched understich/skin (I think all of them). I also research tech business, corporate history, etc.
I think that Bernard Arnauld story was crazy, crazy, crazy, but not really unexpected for me. I keep seeing that. It's like a recipe.
Company X is founded, then either founder 2 backstabs founder 1 and takes over and becomes a press hero, or some third guy buys the company, backstabs both founders, becomes a press hero.
Business is filled to the brim with psychos.
So regarding your example, no, Bernard would not feel guilty after stealing someone's house to make a LV shop. He would be like a toddler that took a chocolate bar from the table and say something like "I did not steal the house, I upgraded the neirbourhood by renovating that house, everyone's house value on that street increased and I created jobs for people. The homeless family? Oh, everyone should take better care of their finances."
I love your additional info about the business side of fashion. It gives a lot of context to what we see on the runway.
