I know I have no room to comment on professional pickleball but it seems like Tysons returns are consistently to the middle of the court instead of utilizing the sidelines. Jack was spreading Tyson wider on his returns enabling him to play the “chess” game easier. It seems like singles against someone with powerful ground-stokes would be better played by spreading them wider and reducing their angles. I also didn’t see Jack forced to hit very many backhands. The game will continue to evolve as more tennis pros transition over.

    • @willhopson1277

Sock is probably just the better/more skilled athlete.
Also I could possibly be wrong but I’m not sure i see pickleball changing a whole lot. Court is small, the ball is light and not much can be with it as far as variety.

You honestly want to return towards the middle. Think about the court; if you return to the middle, it is truly harder to hit a passing shot. If you hit towards the sideline, there are very clear and easy angles to hit winners. Line and sharp cross

It’s basically tennis with lots of volley play. Sock’s natural extreme topspin shots from the baseline ensure the pickleball will land in the court as he (all day) successfully passed his opponent at net who seemingly - and unsuccessfully - attempted to poach like there was no tomorrow. Maybe not the best strategy against Jack, who as far as pickleball is concerned as is evidenced by this doesn’t need to “hit the road”…tennis too, needless to say. He and even Isner seemingly transitioned into the sport with relative ease.

You'd think after a while he would stop coming in on the floating slice backhand return to the center of the court and just letting Sock pick a side and rip the forehand. Slice it low and short or don't even come in. If you float it to Sock's forehand in the center of the court, he's going to pass you.

  • @kosanmr2

Tough for McGuffin - 5'10", his quickness can't match the forward groundstrokes from Sock. His game needs to evolve somehow cos he ain't getting any younger. If more players with massive groundstrokes come on board, running up to volley will decrease. It'll be just like tennis. haha
