Well how many movies have you ever seen where they did it EXACTLY like the book? From a time standpoint, that's materially impossible. It may be possible for a TV Series like "War and Peace", "Lonesome Dove", or "Band of Brothers"; but, for a single movie like you're talking about there is absolutely no way any production could include every nuance in a book like "The Adventurers of Tom Sawyer". It would take much more than the two hours of a movie....and that's a stretch considering today it's industry standard to bring a movie in at well under two hours.

Our teachers back in my school days were not mean, but required respect & obedience, the same as parents at home. I only got the paddle once in school & it left my HS boy butt sore for awhile, but it motivated me not to neglect my class assignments.

Unfathomable to think that almost 150 years after this story was written that this terrible, barbaric form of punishment is still allowed in 19 US states. Just within the last month, a 6 year old girl was savagely beaten with a paddle in Florida by a violent and sadistic principal. It is very disturbing that kids are still subjected to this cruel form of punishment in the year 2021;
I believe that is only allowed in PRIVATE schools. I don't think any public school, by law, can do it anymore in ANY state!

So, only 2 states have fully banned it in all schools, and 31 states have banned it in public schools. I wish you were right, but we have a ways to go to get to that reality.

I wonder how many school districts in those states actually EMPLOY that type of punishment on students?
