  • The Virginia & Truckee Railroad was built between 1868 and 1872 to connect the mining and milling communities of the Comstock to the Central Pacific Railroad that ran through Reno. Through 80 years of service from 1870 to 1950, the railroad proved to be successful during the mining boom years, the hard depression years, and the twilight years. See mixed freight, passenger trains, an empty iron ore up the mines, and a train of freight cars being brought down to industries along the V&T line.
