Jerry, you got into people's places, including mine, in Brazil. I was just a teenager from a poor background eager just to learn the English language and had a blast watching you guys for years. Thank you for making me laugh and for making life a little less harsh.
He's right. I'm homebound- mostly bedbound- at age 33, and I have been for 10 years. And it BLOWS. And the best medicine for all this pain is distraction. And laughter. Honest-to-goodness. And I could never leave my house to go to a comedy show. Ever. But I've watched Seinfeld (and basically every other show ever on TV) and been distracted from the pain by hime so many times.
The series Seinfeld was the first series I fell in love with as a kid. I was born in 92, so it had gone off the air pretty much by the time I started watching it, apart from some episodes here and there on TV here in Sweden, but every christmas and birthday I wished for a season of Seinfeld on DVD until I had all of them and I watched it on repeat in my room. Even learned a great deal of English because of that show, I used to watch with Swedish subtitles, then English subtitles so I learned how to spell the words, then went to no subtitles. Perhaps not the most efficient way to learn a language, but boy was it fun. By now I have watched all seasons of Seinfeld at least 10 times, probably 15+. Amazing show.
A lot people outside English-speaking countries used Friends to learn English...when they tell me this I always cringe and lament that Friends is trash, Seinfeld is so much better.
I'm fascinated by how Jerry has been discussing the "science" of comedy and comedians in the last couple of years. His "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" contains some of the most insightful interviews ever done.
In any field, when you get to develop a concise and quasi-exhaustive knowledge, you want to give back at some point. This is what Jerry does. And he's quite certainly one of the most qualified human beings to do so.
Jerry made a sitcom and has a highly likeable delivery of observational humour but the way he repeatedly loves to talk about how great that is its as if he cured cancer
Thank you, Jerry. Your show about nothing on the television has given me so many laughs, that are shared with practically everyone universally. Laughing at Seinfeld is just one of those perks that make the ups and downs of life all that much more tolerable.
Where is part 2? You can't say "stay tuned for part 2" and then not post the second part!! I know this was on television and part 2 was after the commercial break but how hard is it to put them together in one video or put them up separately and link to the second part. Sheesh.
Through the TV he got to me, lit up my day when I was a kid and now when I have kids of my own and I'm going through all seasons still making me laugh. Like a drug, a good drug, something to make you feel good, to laugh. And he's done that for tens if not hundreds of millions of people around the world. He's made the world a better place.
It's almost unbelievable that a comedy TV show that ended 25 years ago, now, with episodes I've watched again-and-again, can still (because of both the amazing writers and actors) make me laugh out loud. Sometimes, they're the only laughs I experience in an entire day. I'm kind of glad Jerry Seinfeld realizes *that* value of what he produced.
4:35 I used to frequent the Golden Lion, the one in Dean Street, Soho, London. They had an upstairs bar which they didn't open in the evening but you could go and sit up there. I sat up there with my then girlfriend now wife so we could smooch unobserved. Ahhhh...nostalgia.
I like Jerry's take from a few years ago that "all awards shows are stupid"...he hit the nail on the head there...one of my fave comics (along with Norm McDonald) and my fave TV show of all time.
One of the nicer interviews where Jerry doesn't feel defensive and a bit mean. He opened up and the last bit was touching. And he was right, people turning on the TV, esp for the sick elderly and alone people, he's touched their lives, come into their lounge or bedroom and giving people a laugh or a smile, how many of us can say that. I find he's amusing just to look at, so used to his expressions from thee show...he doesn't even have to do anything and I feel lighter. Plus I think he was kinda cute or good looking, such a great smile and sparkly eyes, it lights up his face 😊😘
7:10 That's what to envy about Seinfeld, and Larry David, a hit show that just keeps on giving. You can do what you want and never have to worry about money. Bliss.
How much I miss you Jerry specialy in this moment when our country is going crazy. We would stay in our home waiting to watch your show instead of going out and get that Virus...Thank God we have RUclips that we can watch all the reruns ..👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
5:16 Didn't Seinfeld say to Paul McCartney at that gig: "You wrote 'Well she was just seventeen, you know what I mean'. And then asked him: "So, Paul, what exactly did you mean?" I never heard how McCartney responded.
Jerry made a sitcom and has a highly likeable delivery of observational humour but the way he repeatedly loves to talk about how great that is its as if he cured cancer.
So disrespectful to New York street cleaners. My father has been a New York street cleaner for forty five years. He pushes around the trash with passion.
@ NBC... I love how much money they spend on upgrading these sound stages/ news studios, giant right angled 4k jumbo screens, light up floors, more monitors than they have headlines. Just get a desk, 1 screen and a chair and donate the savings to the hungry, brag you did that and gain viewers who support that decision.
I love Jerry and up till a couple of days ago I also had a lot of respect for him. I understand now that he and Larry David cut out the other 3 major character actors from sharing in any residual income from the show's reruns. He could have made some concessions to them for the years of work and value they added to the show. The Friends characters all stood together and made a deal to make sure they all benefitted long term from their efforts and time put into the show.
I remember there being some discord about that with the cast but I don't believe it was Jerry or Larry "cutting them out". Those decisions lay with the network and production company. It's not really fair to compare "Friends" and "Seinfeld" in terms of compensation. Jerry/Larry created the show and were the head writers/producers for every episode, including Larry directing many of them. They were known to have stayed up nights every week writing and finishing the show for the first 7 seasons they were together, with Jerry taking double-duty after Larry left. The cast didn't put in that same level of contribution. And clearly, they all remained very good friends to this day, so harm no foul. The least wealthy of them (Michael Richards) is worth $50 million. They're all fine.
They were actors on the show. Jerry and Larry created the show from nothing. That’s like hiring a contractor to build a hotel then giving them part of income from then on. If they give them money then they gotta give all the actors money. They were paid to act. Larry and Jerry were paid to create. Much different.
Surprised the street sweeper union didn't insist Jerry make a public apology. I am not saying I think they should do that, I am saying I am SURPRISED that did NOT happen. See what I am saying?
6:02 That letter shows once again how decisions about what is good and what is bad, what will fail and what will succeed, what will be made and what will be scrapped are often in the hands of unimaginative, incompetent, vision-free oafs.

Agree. I'm not super 'into' standup comedians in general. And he works clean, which is harder. But as an interviewee, or just talking about random things, I find him very interesting.

But the show "Seinfeld' wasn't funny because of Jerry Seinfeld, it was Larry David, all Larry David scenes and jokes that made the show Seinfeld so funny.
Not only Jerry was funny, but George, Elaine, Kramer and Newman as well, not to mention George's parents and other characters very well picked by the producers. Well written too, very good show.
Larry David was one of the Producers...I can't vouch that he personally picked each actor...But I heard he did give the final ok to Jason Alexander to play George (which is Larry David's character), and of course Jerry to play Jerry!
Anyone else sick and tired of Jerry Seinfeld lecturing about the "science of comedy" or the "construction of jokes" or the "lives of comedians," as if he's some Shakespeare of comedy? His stand-up is hardly groundbreaking. In fact, I find it quite trite and tame. And while his TV show was great, I think he was extremely fortunate to have Larry David by his side and an amazing cast and team of writers.
