What a great video! I made a small portable box from a cigar box($5.00)! I used memory foam($10.00 w/leftovers) to cushion and divide the box. I used clips like you to attach my clairfontaine pastelmate pad to the lid, which I held in place with an angle hinge $1.75 from the hardware store so a travel box for around $20.00! Yours is nice too! I stocked it with Blue Earth pastels, they come in foam and they transfer so easily to the cigar box! They are very soft so I am not sure about the hiking aspect, but I am relegated to paths these days! A wonderful video and painting too! Keep creating and sharing your art journey with us, thanks!

You can buy a separate tripod plate and at a diy place you can get a support to fix to your box also you can get a folding foam small camping matt

I use rubbing alcohol in a spritz bottle to fix my pastel and build layers

Great idea! I use rubbing alcohol and a brush for blending under paintings but I have never tried that! Thanks for sharing

You are putting me in the mood to take my pastels out out plein air again! The weather needs to warm up a bit more...it has been too chilly lately. I hate the dust that can get in the box with the pastels so I have a little dust tray hack (just a V of paper wrapped in clear packing tape somit can be wiped off with a baby wipe). You know....another option to attaching a chain would be to use velcro....you can get the kind where one side has a sticky back so you just stick a strip on the bottom and another on the top...then just carry an 18” strip of the other side and it should be easy to customize the angle you want the back to be. My pochade box has a latch that makes me nervous too and I use another velcro stral just wrapped lengthwise around the closed box (if duct tape won’t fix something, then it must be a velcro problem ;-) ) I love Moab and the red rock country!

This was a joy to watch. I am new to pastel and my major headache is how to save and store the pastel drawings?
