I think insulation is important. I would add insulation in the roof, in the doors, and close fitting insulation pads over the windows. Personally I prefer a decent mattress so I would use a large roof box for stowing equipment and have more space inside. I have seen pull out tents which attach to cross roof bars, so when you have very rainy conditions, life can better.

We use air mattresses. Yes the tent was more comfortable this is an emergency solution for places where the tent can not be erected. And most of all, it's fun

I also expanded the V70 BJ 2000 with an extendable table, iso mat and carinthia sleeping bag, even winter camping at 13 c minus no problem
