Storm Striker: A FUN Game isn't a GOOD Game

- Storm Striker is a 5v5 Third Person Hero Shooter that I came across randomly while scrolling through Steam and it hooked me... within hours? Yeah it's hard to judge a game when you can't queue into a match for about 4 hours. Storm Striker is incredibly fun, yet I find myself unable to recommend it as an actually good game.

This is how I felt about video horror society. Such a good fucking game. Great visuals. Gameplay loop was insane. But the community got so good at the game during their bets and alpha phases that new players would get wiped out. They didn't market it and then it was hard to get people to play monster because they were getting bullied by people who were very good at the game so they gave the monster a mechanic that they could see when someone had a weapon near them and completely fucked the gameplay loop. It became impossible to do half the things the game was good for. They killed it and then didn't invest in any marketing it was depressing. I miss that game every day.
I know right! I would constantly play before they added the new characters and the super rift. I loved using the solar flare and the cursed sword. There was so much potential for the game and now it’s all gone due to dev and community issues.
I also remember that whole mess where the VHS discord got hacked
Omega strikers died because of the same reason + the game having no vision about going full casual party game or trying to catch your typical tryhard moba player, it was this middle ground that didn't satisfy neither.
You're high if you think the game was fun. If your game is only fun because little to no one understands how to play it; you screwed up somewhere.
@@soundrogue4472 not entirely, its not an unknown statement or a hot take to say that gamers will to optimize the fun out of everything (which you can definitely see in multiplayer games), take for example fighting games, the best moment to get into one is right at the beginning since everyone starts in a somewhat even playing field, everyone is still on the learning phase at that point, which is drastically different if you were to get onto it a couple of years later when a decent to good amount of people have learned most viable combo routes and mostly figured out match ups.
@@alexknight81 Discovering interactions and the level of depth things go is fun.
Things being deep as a puddle and easy to figure out isn't fun.
I don't disagree players optimize the fun out of a game but the fact of the matter is the game is broken on a fundamental level if only NOT KNOWING is what keeps it fun.
An example; in TF2 I like playing Hybrid Demoknight, shield, eyelander and lock and load.
My knowledge is there knowing the express strat for the best speed build up BUT my expression of my skill level is dog water.
oh my goddd the in-game explanation was so immediately painful 😭not only would having a real voice actor have made it sound a lot more lifelike, but it also probably would've resulted in somebody catching those errors lol (like "5f5 instead of 5v5").
I remember clicking on that link (which, mind you I was given a MASSIVE, TAKING UP MY ENTIRE SCREEN NOTIFICATION) to watch, and within 2 seconds I was like "...am I getting trolled? Is this like the game dev rick roll?"
only 7 current players and it still somehow manages to have faster queue times than OW2 right now
Bots
That tends to happen when your playing glorified training matches
is this a comp joke im too casual to understand?
@@DucksAndCatnip OW2 means Overwatch 2
Well... if you want OW2 to add bots into your matches, I guess that could happen(NOT).
Looks good, is fun. People just dont play these type of games. Which is sad, but its always these type of games that die fast. Gigantic died and came back randomly. Who knows what the future is for this game.
People play main steam, or this game was played by a stream tomorrow everyone would
Your video is single handedly going to spike this games player base since I know I’m definitely gonna download 👌
This got me to give the game a try, and I want this game to succeed! The character designs and the art is fantastic, there is no reason why this game should only have 7 people playing it. I hope they add controller support
I wanted to play this game but couldn't find a match. I only stumbled across it because a streamer who playtested a game I was playtesting happen to be streaming the beta months ago.
i feel like making fan art of this game since i love the character designs as well! I was just testing out the game while watching this
I never heard of this game until today...if this game is actually fun despite not completely balanced that's fine. It can patch up in balance overtime. I mostly exist in the fighting game genres and around it. Most of the time I get marketing ads of big game titles that don't really appeal to me.
makes me sad that this game is dead before it even came to life it looks soo fun and i like itt
Finally we are out of Persona 5 music in video essays and going into SMTV’s music
you know it
I'm one of those 7 I guess...
The lobby song is an absolute bop
storm striker player #7 (out of like 15 lol) good video m8 i'm one of those who've been playing since the launch and yeah this video is pretty accurate. I love the game but it is hard to recommend for sure. I keep coming back because there's nothing else out that plays like it even with the issues in the game
god damn man..
it was the same with battleborn
it was so fun, had amazing personality. Generally a wonderful game.
It just had a few major flaws that - combined with horrificly bad luck - completely battered the game and made it run itself to the ground.
if I had a time machine I would unironically use it for going back so I could play that game in it's peak again.
Any game that's fun IS a good game. That's what a game is for.
If a fun game isn't seen as a good game, then you're seeing games as something other than games.
I tried this out once, during early access I believe. Yeah, it was already barren and the AI was bad, and it generally felt undercooked... but the characters felt pretty interesting to play. I think if it had a lobby's worth of players when I tried it out, I could have liked it.
The Gigantic bit didnt age so well lol
i came across it by accident as well... really heart broken i couldnt fnd even one match
I played this game a while back. Stomped all the bot matches then got completely abused (in a way youtube censors) by a real player team.
English translation horribe, grind horrible, janky hitboxes and map terrain. It's hard to tell if you can jump up the incline of a ramp or just have to walk all the way around so the ramp is facing you.
All in all still 9/10 better then Overwatch. Blizzard just can't make good games. Send Storm Striker back into development and get it some real funding this game is not finished.
This game with a bigger budget could be great
Men will say "it's NOT an Overwatch 2 clone guys I swear its a different strand" and than show footage of Reinhardt not even 3 minutes later 3:33 ?
Listen- (no I can't justify it at all lmao)
STORM STRIKER PLAYER #10 ‼️‼️ I love playing the game and wish it would have more consistent queues but recommending it would be so iffy due to the issues and my grudges with CC feeling abundant 😭 especially with more than one tank on an enemy team
But regardless ‼️‼️ I still like storm striker ‼️‼️
Goated Chloe player right here
I remember trying the beta sometime last year. after getting spammed and yelled at my first game for not knowing the meta, I figured it wasn't for me lol
If there's melee characters, why not just call it a MOBA with a different perspective? Like, you know, Gigantic.
The position thing could be from design goals and the third person camera; Maybe they want to lean more to casual, or priorize clarity (so the arena ahead is clear)... but this kind of third person camera is terrible for aiming too much up(I mean really up, like above head). Even in fps players tend to look less up in general (unless a game is REALLY vertical), in third the camera is horrible for that making hiding spots above very ABUSABLE.
Maybe they realized that during testing- imagine that, you make a game to be this dance of skills and dodges and whatnot but then theres an optimal play that is just camping in hiding for easy kills... potentially gamebreaking given theres ultimates, imagine some strong AoE ultimate on someone camping high up and then 3+ enemies running from your team walk by bellow...
Wtf, this game looks super intersting. Why the fuck havent i heard of it and where is all the damn promo?
Thanks daddy Rory for yet another banger video
0:52 AND I don't care as soon as I saw it's 5V5.
I really like this game but the HORRIBLE optimization, lack of maps' details and playercount made me quit
idk about y’all but having fun in a game is kind of the goal?
moving object
It gets so much worse as the guide goes on.
I not sure if i want to play the game at this state, but your video definitely help me (and perhaps others) to acknowledge the existence about this game
Hopefully the devs can fix those problems and actually start to advertise the game.. I swear without this video i never know this game is exist
one thing that turns me off from all these "hero" based games is... quite honestly the characters themselves. why should i care about these characters? itsn ot like league of legends where these characters have been out for over a decade. or like overwatch where theres a million or more dollars behind the characterization and lore. i have ZERO reason to gaf about any of these characters. they might as well be grey hitboxes for all i care.
another issue is why should i learn another hero shooter thats just as difficult if not more than a preexisting one? im still waiting for a "Casual" shooter. overwatch really is the closest with heroes like winston, moira, and mercy. but if i want to play long range artillery, i have to actually have the technical prowess of aiming on widowmaker. that requires HUNDREDS of hours of training your aim which imo is a MAJOR turn off for casuals.
i already know games like these are a balance nightmare. its a never ending cycle. characters need buffs or nerfs and the community cries and then the devs reworks or characters become forgotten. it happens every game. from shooters to fighters to mobas and everything inbetween.
so what can a hero shooter do to differentiate itself and make it worth investing in? for one, get rid of hero concept as a whole and instead have roguelike options during each match to pick abilities. and 2 make it EASY. make bullets like 30x larger. add aim assist.
one thing youll find is that gamers HATE when games become "Easier" for casuals. its because they think theyre actually better than they really are or could be better and want to increase the skill gap between them and worse players to make themselves seem better. its self detrimental. the dunning kruger effect lol. so devs lower the ceiling and even if the change is beneficial for the majority of players, they HATE changes like that lol. its quite funny!
i never understood why shooters require such a high skill to begin with. you really ahve to be GOOD at aiming in order to enjoy games like overwatch ,apex, cod, u name it. its sad. i dont want to sit in an aim trainer for 10+ hours just to get headshot for peaking an angle by someone whose been aiming for 10 years. if thats going to be the gameplay, why not just make it so your gun automatically one taps as soon as you see the enemy? then EVERYONE can enjoy the gameplay. not just those that are proficient aimers. when everyone is on the same level in terms of micro capabilities, then the players with the best MACRO will win. instead, all these shooters just reward aim. if u have good aim, you can brute force yourself through pretty much any shooter since theyre all reliant on that one skill (aim). and of course theres different types of aiming like flicks or tracking, but at the end of the day theyre all just glorified aim trainers with a pretty skin and the person with the best aim wins! i think thats why people hate rats in apex. because the one skill that should carry them to pred (aim) isnt the sole factor for winning a match. the person with the best aim doesnt win a match of apex, the last to die is the winner! if they could, gamers would make it so the person with the most kills wins. at that point, why even play br? just play tdm XD
...I've never used an aim trainer in my life and got to masters in Overwatch on DPS, with Overwatch being my first ever shooter. You don't need to "spend 10 hours in aim training". My "training" was literally just me playing the game and having a good time. In Overwatch, you don't even need to have good aim. Have you seen the roster?? Have you played the game???? This is an incredibly mal-informed view of the FPS genre as a whole tbh, the whole point of a shooter is to shoot. Why would you be mad that someone with better aim can kill you faster? That's like getting mad at the other player in soccer because their dribbling is better and you can't take the ball.
You don't need hundreds of hours of training in order to play widow. If you want to play your long range artillery as a casual player, just play the game. Have fun. If you call yourself a casual, the outcome shouldn't matter. Just play the game? I was getting absolutely steam rolled in some of the matches I played on storm strikers but it was still a fun time to me, win or loss doesn't matter I was still playing the game.
As for your point on *needing* to have good aim to enjoy an FPS. That's just you?. 2017, my first matches of Overwatch, my first matches of any shooter ever, I was playing whoever, Cassidy, Reaper, Tracer, Mercy, Rein, Soldier, Hanzo. You'll notice that at least 4 of those character require "good" aim. And I didn't care. The game was fun. I just played. It was a good time.
Your proposal to "fix" the hero shooter genre which is "make it easier" isn't going to fix it. The roguelike suggestion is certainly a good one, I mean Paladins is an example of a game that lets you swap your abilities and augment yourself with the shop items. But just making it easier? A *lot* of players are drawn to challenge. Not competitiveness, but CHALLENGE. Why do you think League has been around for a decade? Why do you think fighting games like street fighter have been ongoing since the 1980s? Why do you think the Shooter genre, first or third person has been a mainstay since COD? Even outside of multiplayer, why do you think people adore Elden Ring? Outside of specific games, why do you think people adore speedrunning? There's a difference between making something easier and making something more accessible. If you make mario kart "easier" by having a setting that lets someone get bullet bills every item box because they're bad at steering, sure it's "easier" but now it's boring. Where's the challenge? it also doesn't change the fact that if you make the game easier, sure "casuals" as you're putting them can now do things that they may not have been able to, be it steering like in this example or just landing shots they previously wouldn't have. But consider, the players who are already good *also* get the easier game buff, meaning they do even better than before and the cycle repeats. Adding accessibility is the correct way to go about it. Aim assist for one, but there's a difference between aim assist and outright letting the game aim for you. Auto steering in MK8D to go back to my mario kart example, it helps out the younger players, the new players, even the players who may have a disability of some kind (auto accelerate helps here as well for anyone with motor issues) but it also limits them. In certain cases since they can't go for tight drifts or certain shortcuts.
And also, a lot of these games you're complaining about are aimed at competitive players. At people who WANT to improve. People who WANT to win. People who WANT to do good at the game. So why are you complaining that you, the non target audience, isn't being accommodated for? And again, if you're truly a casual, these "overcompetitive players" shouldn't be an issue. These "difficult games" shouldn't be a problem. They're not made for you. If despite not being the target audience, you still wish to play, that's perfectly fine, go, do it. I was a casual in Overwatch until about 2018 where I thought I'd try being a bit more competitive, play more, try to improve (which I did, literally by just playing the game but thinking a little more while I did it). But when I was in that casual phase, nothing mattered. A win, a loss, they meant nothing. I was just playing a videogame. If you can't have fun because of someone being better than you, someone who put more effort into something getting better results than you, it's truly just your problem. Just go play some Mario, Pokemon, Persona or just any singleplayer game. Or if multiplayer is truly a must for you, maybe you just really want to play with friends, go try some Risk of Rain. Some Ultimate Chicken Horse. If you really, and I mean REALLY need PVP. I sincerely doubt you're "just a casual" since PVP is *inherently* competitive. You know minecraft servers have non mechanical skill requiring minigames right?
They're just videogames. It doesn't change who you are if you lose. It doesn't change who you are if you die 20 times because the enemy team is just better. I guess the other team doesn't go outside and you have that on them? But considering you took the time to comment that I don't think you do. Learn to disconnect success in a game to your self worth. If you're arguing a game needs to be made easier to be fun, it is, honestly and truly, 100% skill issue. Whether it's literally a competitive multiplayer game that was designed to offer challenge to the players, or a singleplayer game like Elden Ring designed to be difficult, that was the intention of the developers. Difficulty is part of the experience. If you don't like it, there's other games, even other HOBBIES you can engage in.
I'd say I'm sorry for the lecture, but reading that was like seeing someone put raw chicken in their sandwich and complaining about getting salmonella after eating it.
(And if to care about a game with characters, you need a reason to care about said characters, have you considered that a lot of multiplayer games aren't going to be for you as their stories will never be complete? Go play Persona 3 Reload. It has some of the best written character arcs I've ever had the pleasure of seeing play out)
Hey my guy, there's only one character that has ADS in this game and there's no sniper. I believe 8 of the characters are melee and most of the ranged units have these slow moving large balls that hit people. So, you're literally yapping just to yap not even talking about this game. If you need to be attached to a character to enjoy the game then you're not actually enjoying the gameplay. I suggest you should seriously consider switching to a different genre you would enjoy more.
Trying to pin point which county that accent is from
I wish you luck, some do it in seconds, others have thought I'm AUSTRALIAN
So theres no microtransactions? AND you cant buy charecters?
YOOOOO NEW VIDEO
This is totally my jam and am on a constant lookout for similar games, but I've never heard of this game until a friend mentioned it. Why is there no marketing for this... at all?
looks pretty good to me how about u stop hating
OW2 not fun and bad
Are you wearing a green shirt?
Nope, a black one. (It's not green screen I use lmao)
storm strikers, who?
nice dead game sad
I disagree with you. Maybe it's fun for you, but if there's no one is playing yet, then it's not fun, is it?
Also, you're excusing the devs a lot. It's their job to make a good game. It's their job to fix the game. And if they don't, then of course, nobody's gonna play It.
“Be the person in Q you want others to be” - Michael Scott
That's a fallacy as popular doesn't mean fun and vice versa. A fun game varies from person to person and is inherently subjective, but an unpopular game can be fun and just have a shitty new player experience or marketing. As gameplay "Funniness" and quality/population isn't that related beyond a certain point.
@@tonyflamingo3444 i thought captaingames meant that if a multiplayer game has no players then it can't be fun because you can't actually play the game with anyone

I fear that, with the future releases of other hero-based games, Storm Striker will die. Multiple reasons led to the current state of the game and, while people like to simplify the issues, it isn't something that can be fixed with "Just this" or "Just do that".
Nevertheless, I'll keep on having fun with it, just like you did!

The same can be said, vice versa. A good game doesn't necessarily mean it is a fun game.
League? 🤣 (never met any player who recommended the game)
@@Merengil league is actually fun but the community is so vile its not even funny. griefers pretty much every game
Man, I'd actually give this game a try if it was on Xbox. Looks fun and I'm really done with overwatch right now
if you think a game isnt good then its because its more unfun than its fun, the whole point of a game is to be fun (whether that fun means anything from interesting action to conveying an important theme/message to the player and even to harmful addictive mechanics like gacha, if any of that appeals to a gamer its because its fun to them), so in this case theyre not succeeding with that if its more unfun than fun
would love to hear more of your thoughts on Gigantic!
I understand why they did the characters the way they did but there's no way I'm grinding out 50 games to try out another one.
Like why make them so extremely expensive, hopefully that changes and I'd give it a shot.
got me to download. imma try it out

Day 15 of asking for an Irish Review of Risk of Rain 2/Returns (I don't have an opinion about this game, I'm just here for the algorithm)
I just think 3rd person doesn't work for these style of games.
You have birds eye view that appeals to the super sweaty pc nerds like dota and league
And than you have a 1st person that appeals to the fps gamers that love to try hard and learn new experiences in first person.
But I've always felt 3rd person is more of a casual thing, like you dont wanna try hard mechanically like fps and you dont wanna spend years learning the strategies needed for the birds eye, which is why often times the only 3rd person games that work are single player, with 1 exception to the rule which seems to be battle royals but that's because battle royal is the only genre where you can join a game, blow absolute booty cheeks and not get flamed so it appealed to that casual audience of 3rd person players because they could experience the sweat without getting sweaty if that makes sense.
Its why I don't have faith marvel rivals or deadlock will succeed, weve already seen like 3 or 4 3rd person games in this style that have absolutely flopped, it honestly feels like the overwatch and paladins community get all hyped for a new 3rd person version every other month and than I never see anything on it again 😂
I actually liked the game but sadly i suck at understanding other languages so i have a hard time identifying what is happening via sound.
And sound is mostly how i play games because of my crappy vision
The audio is seriously a mess, I should've included an example tbh
How did I never heard of this game. It looks really good
Game looks great but there sure seems like a lot of visual clutter -- tho that hasn't stopped me from playing OW or LOL...
Love the vid day 8
played it didn't enjoy it just like overprime since player count is low got matched against veterans also ping was high like 200
Oh yeah, totally thriving, right? I mean, it's only been gathering dust since it launched in November last year. And here we are in September 2024-how could it possibly be dead by now? It’s clearly bursting with life… if life means a deserted wasteland.
I sub to make you get more money for a new camera, your videos' quality would skyrocket!
Hopefully this can get it on the map, saw it in the steam store and hoped I could get into a game. In queue 20 minutes and decided to just not
This game is definitely going to die
It probably also doesn't help that this isn't on console. You can PC master race all you want, but the biggest player numbers will always be on console.
I've played on Asia severs and once they realized I wasn't Korean I got an insta permaban. The devs are extremely racist. This is legit. I'll even discord you pictures.

Fun is a pre-requisite to defining "a good game”. Everything else is manipulation of the physique via dopamine injection or more tersely speaking: addictive at best.
Unlimited spam jumping = terrible mechanics.
