I purchased a dust collector for my Hercules sliding miter saw and can say with 100% assurance it works way better than the factory offering. Thanks for the efforts to improve dust management.
After comparing the Hercules to DW 780 I went Herc route and have been using this thing hard for the last 3 years, fantastic accurate saw with awful dust collection. Like this guy I’m a an engineer who unfortunately cant help but figure out problems, when I got tired of the saw dust flying everywhere I bought a $10 piece of kitchen silicone and cut it to fit the saw and installed….works like a champ! I recently found another RUclipsr who did something similar. $10 works fantastic and doesn’t collapse when vac is on like factory setup.
Just ordered one for my DW715. I've been watching your experiments for a while. My own half-vast solution of Cheerios boxes, craft foam, hot melt glue and a lot of duck tape falls apart every couple of weeks. Your elegant solution is well worth the price.
I'm not much of a "shop" person (more of a coder type) but shop stuff is interesting. What makes me watch this channel is that this is really a Masters curriculum in business / operations / marketing / financial management for the modern high-tech small business entreprenuer. Very well thought out content.
Absolute Master class on marketing, behind the scenes, and display of value. Some of the best content I have seen in a while to promote a service or product.
Mine came in two weeks ago and what difference it has made. It’s literally a day and night difference in my shop. My dewalt 780 was the last thing creating uncontrollable dust, but after your upgrade it’s like I barely notice it’s been running. Couldn’t thank you enough.
I bought the dust chute for my Bosch 12" axial glide and it was a game changer, worked far better then I expected. Easy to install, super fast shipping, quality product, and very highly recommend it.
I’ve been waiting for this one to come out. I appreciate the time and effort you have done to work on these non-sliding saws. Placed an order today. Can’t wait to improve the quality of my work environment. Thank you sir! Also, as someone who spends every January making sausage, I appreciate the making sausage comment. My dad keeps his recipes in a notebook where nobody knows where it is.
I have been waiting for you to make one for the 715 since you started. I didn't even wait till the end the video to order this one. Can't wait to use it.
I can appreciate what goes on behind the scenes, having designed and produced a high tech electronic product for a niche industry. Congratulations! I look forward to using your dust collector!
Cool to see another maker has tackled the Dewalt miter saw dust collection problem. I started working on a solution about 4 years ago and got side tracked into other projects. Good job!
I bought one for my DeWalt sliding compound mitre saw and I have to say that it works wonderfully. If you are considering one, do it and you will not be sorry.
“Making 💩 just takes time”. Truer words have never been spoken. It’s a plus that your target customers are woodworkers who understand this concept lol. It takes a lot of designing and planning time for me to just to get a project to the point of going to the lumberyard. I can’t imagine planning and preparing for a scale as large as yours Travis.
Thanks for creating these. I ordered one yesterday as soon as I got your email saying they are ready. And yes, it's hard to be patient when like today I was out in the beautiful weather creating loads of sawdust.
I just installed the dust collector on my DWS715 and it works excellent! You said it doesn't collect it all but for me I think it gets 99% of it. I always had sawdust out the side but this has stopped that cold. Thank you for a product that actually works.
I ordered the dust collector for my DWS782 and it is awesome. Very little dust escaping compared to before. Thanks for your efforts to perfect the “OEM garbage “ dust collection 😆👌
I bought one of your gadgets for my Dewalt saw. It fit funny and contacted the blade. Just drilled one mounting hole a tad larger and that thing works great! I’d bet 97 maybe 98% of dust collected. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your journey. I am currently studying digigal fabrication and can honestly say I look at what you do as an inspiration for what to create and what the true process takes. Love the content and keep it up!
Since you are making these dust collector options. One very cool idea would be to make a zero clearance plate that closes off the underside portion of the zero clearance plate so dust doesn't collect underneath the saw and improves dust collection even more. And then you can make it a package deal on your site with these attachments. Like figure out how deep the saw blade plunges into the base. Create an enclosure under that has some kind of vent that will direct the dust right back into your dust collector attachment. I'm already a fan of the 780 version.. I bought 2 for my shop. If you ever get to the Milwaukee 7.25" miter saw I would personally buy another dust collector attachment from you.
As someone who spent years involved in initially the design and prototyping of computers and consumer electronics, and then in the manufacturing of said products… Amen brother!
Tha amount of effort and planning you put into these and 2 days in I still haven’t gone to the garage to confirm my saw model before ordering one. Definitely going to get one just need to pause one of the 4 times a day I walk by my miter saw.
I can say this... I am absolutely 110% happy with the dust chute I ordered from you!!! Yes shipping took awhile and yes im not a patient man🤣 BUT... It made it way more exciting to open the box when it arrived..! Although it doesn't collect 100% of the dust I would have to say its damn close depending on the type of cut being made. I work with MDF alot & we all know how nastey the dust is from it. I now have a clean mitersaw station without clouds of dust being shot everywhere. Oh and the Shop Nation sticker included is a great touch. Made me smile.
Hope all the work pays off. Just imagine if you had gone down the road of magnetic ratchet, socket, wrench, organization! Infinite sizes, colors types etc. (quality out there is all over the map too). Keep up the shop greatness standard.
Wow how inspiring you are. Really admire your problem solving abilities, grit and engineering skills. God bless you. Will be ordering for my Bosch miter saw. 👍🙏
I wish I had seen this earlier. I just spent the last day or two designing, making, redesigning, and remaking a dust chute from the usual carboard and duct tape. Mine works great as long as I don't want to bevel cut. So I ordered yours with the 2 hose adapters.
Ironically I was talking to someone on a FB group 2 days ago about this EXACT thing! Her comment was that you didn’t have a unit for a DeWalt. I then showed her my cardboard. Packing tape, yards price tag, PVC, and painter’s tape masterpiece (we will discuss how and when you got into my shop to pilfer my IP later, I mean, all ya had to do was ask) So now I will tell her that through the power of her positive thinking, or extreme whining, that you have “just whipped one up” and she can dash over and pick one out for her very own. But only after I get one first - your color choices are so much nicer than mine, I simply MUST have one! Thank you !!!!
Small tip: If you're trying to thwart the idea stealing snakes, make sure your Bambulab printers are not connected to a network as they upload the gcode for every print to Bambulabs if they have the ability to talk to the internet. 3D Musketeers just did a video about this. Bambu have claimed multiple times that they do not collect gcode files, but the printers upload logs for every print you do that contains gcode files regardless of if you opted out of the data collection program or not. If they're lying about that, what else are they lying about? Stick to the prusas IMO.
Hey Travis, I recently purchased the DWS779/780 dust collection system. If this works nearly as well as the one I purchased, then it will be another winner and make a lot of people happy. Keep up the greatness!
The crazy thing is with these new Miter saws is my 22 year old 10" saw is fantastic with dust collection. The bag is meh, but with a shop vac connected the only dust produced is large chips ejected forward.
One trade off here is that you have to remove the dust collection add on to be able to remove the blade. So factor that extra time in when choosing this type of product, worth it for me but not advertised!!!
Focus group feedback and continuous improvement is key. You’ve put a lot of hard work and dedication into improving dust collection that is much needed and glad to see your hard work paying off! 👍
I like the idea and the concept, only issue is price. Its a bit overpriced for me, but I understand why it's priced that way. I wish you success, and I always love to support small businesses over amazon as much as I can.
I would buy one that he makes already. First, its ready to buy. Second he started with the better saws. If budget doesnt allow then thats unavoidable, but I would lean towards those.
Love that the before picture is with the factory's dust collection already removed...because I'm guessing you threw it away after your first prototype worked. Anyway, it doesn't do that much better than what you showed, so we're good. Gotta go see if you have something for a Hitachi sliding miter....
I wonder if redesigning the blade guard and integrating dust collection into that would be another improvement. Similar to a table saw blade guard hood with dust collection. Travis, I challenge thee to experiment.
Lots of planning and prep work to create a product from scratch for sure. I need to check your line to see if you have one that will fit my Bosch 12 inch slider, which I think would be a great help for it
A couple of days ago I received the dust collection chute for my DWS715. I just installed it and it's really great. The product is very well designed and very well built. The instruction video makes installation very easy and straightforward. And the sample cuts I just did resulted in very little stray dust. This is such a great thing for my shop. Thanks so much!
The problem is people keep buying crappy miter saws like Dewalt and Milwaukee for starters. Just buy a proper one like Festool or Makita with a adequate dust extractor . Using the standard bag on the mitre saw just causes saw dust everywhere even if you have a kapex. The price of a kapex is cheaper than the price of new lungs. Plus medical cost.
It would be interesting to see one of you commentary videos about product development while there are already other products established. How does that work get scheduled? Whats the impact in design time? Is it easier mentally to do a new product with income coming in?

I have one of these, I bought it to cut through my foundation cause it fit a 12 inch blade, kinda crazy I was able to cut a 2x3ft hole in my foundation with it.
I got your dust attachment for the DeWalt DW735, love it. Can I maybe suggest a new journey to design? Lathe dust control, maybe starting at the midi-lathe sized (14x20ish) dust collection. I happily volunteer myself as a test subject for a journey to create useful dust collection for lathes. Yes, it would help with wood but with hybrid and resin turning especially.
On a sliding miter saw, it makes sense for the dust collection to be on the arm to follow the blade, but on a non sliding how well would it work having the dust collection on the base aiming up at the saw? Maybe still have a small shield on the arm to prevent the saw dust from shooting up and over the back of the saw. I wonder if it would eliminate some of the dust that makes its way under the saw. I may have to mock up one and see how it works
I kind of like the pile of sawdust tbh. It lets my wife think I’ve actually been making something when really I’ve been watching vids and drinking some local brews.
any chance you might design something for Metabo's mitre saws? Specifically the C10FCGSM ? I know it's an inexpensive saw, but it's my first and other than dust management it's perfect for my small shop 😢 awesome content - good luck with the new shop project ❤
Thank you for the knowledge you provided in your video. I also have a product that I have been working on for 6 years. And needed some help with getting ready for launching it. I would like to talk to you about how to do it. Thanks again.
Fantastic video! Question about this design - at 7:54 in the “before” shot, you can see the small cut piece fly off unobstructed behind the saw, and at 7:58 in the “after” it gets sorta jammed up by the new dust hood. Could it be a safety concern that there’s now no clear ejection path for small cut fragments to disperse? Like your 16x12 Camphouse, do you ever plan on doing any smaller building plans in the 12x8 range, like a Coop? I plan on milling rough cut lumber so it would be cool if it had some detail like your Camphouse, just curious. Great channel just found it

Great job showing a glimpse behind the amount of work put into making something like this.
I bought one of your dust collection systems for the Bosch axial glide saw. Works great and quality is top notch.
I’ve been waiting for this one to come out. I appreciate the time and effort you have done to work on these non-sliding saws.

Should look into using CPAP hoses instead, they're smooth inside and flexible. Just better, less turbulent airflow. Makes for better suction 😊

I broke the dist collection on my Ryobi and your shop is the first place I went for a new one. Unfortunately I did not see a Ryobi offering.

How about design for Ryobi? Many backyard hobbyist use these saw.
I do not have my miter saw purchased or selected yet, but when I do you can bet I will buy a dust collection adapter from Shop Nation's selection.

Again awesome video, design, and updates. Still hoping you’ll be able to make one for the DW706 which is a dual bevel 12”.
I don't even own a Dewalt and I want to give this guy money for vac setup. Good guy.
not in the market for this but liked your video about the process! like you said, Making shit takes time!
Any market for doing one for a DW708? I'd be happy to buy one and do any fitment testing you need.
Yeah me too.
I wonder if redesigning the blade guard and integrating dust collection into that would be another improvement. Similar to a table saw blade guard hood with dust collection. Travis, I challenge thee to experiment.
Nice work. Hope you sell a lot. I wish you made one for my cheap 10" Ryobi sa.
Planning to buy the Bosch 12 device. Love to see one made for my old DW708. Hooking a vac to its bag port does almost nothing.
Lots of planning and prep work to create a product from scratch for sure. I need to check your line to see if you have one that will fit my Bosch 12 inch slider, which I think would be a great help for it

Focus group testing should go before mass manufacture in case theres basic changes that need to be made to the design.
Are you sure you're an engineer? You have a wicked sense of humor, is why I ask.
I'm one of the weird ones
@@ShopNation I accepted that from the first time I watched one of your videos (years ago)!
Bahahahahahahaha. Love this.
Are you considering any RYOBI miter saws for future dust collection adapters?
I have DW705 also, I saw that someone else in the comments has one too. Will the DW715 version work for the DW705? Thanks!

Oh for sure. That little twit.

I don't have a Dewalt miter saw, but I wish I had one of these for my Skil (was from my father).
Do you Chute for DW705 available?
Don't forget about us Ryobi Rats. They make dust too.
I have all these same issue but for my Soap business. lol. Great video. One thing what do you do with the printers you no longer use or swap out?

I’m now tempted to change my Metabo Miter Saw for a DeWalt one so I can use your dust collector 🥴
