You can buy pretty much anything you would want from a pharmacy without prescription in most tourists towns. Once you get out of the tourist areas it's more like the USA especially for things that could be harmful like barbiturates. Antibiotics you can buy easily without a prescription

You have 55 days after expiration to renew your temporary residency visa. Just did it here in merida in January. If you're not in Mexico currently, you have 5 days to file the paperwork once you enter into México at the inm
