Instead of having a bunch of similar casting reels that can be used interchangeably. KastKing needs to expand their lineup with technique specific reels. They are going in the right direction with this reel. In fact, they should always feature light spools in all of their new reels. And they are finally innovating their own dynamic braking system, instead of using linear magnetic brakes found in cheap reels.
This is like KastKing's competitor to the new Curado MGL 150. They are focusing on the right things with the lighter spool and innovative braking system. Their diagram says the brakes are "Compensating Magnet Brake". I'd like to see how light a lure this reel can cast with control and distance. And how it compares casting distance wise to the Tatula SV 103 with 1/4 to 1/2 lures? Really curious what you think about their new braking system. Thanks for showing us your new toy.
150 might be a bit deep. 70 might be a bit small perhaps tatula 100 with a lighter spool? Lol . But I like the direction they are going. I hope this can perform better than their existing reels for lighter stuff. I will let you know ;)
That be cool as heck indeed! I will try it soon but i want to test the stock zephyr with stock brakes again since i now have a line counter tool. So much stuff to work on, so little time. I hope i can get it all done by first week of oct since i got a busy week coming up.. few birthdays this week!
It sure looks good. I saw it on Aliexpress and i just gotta save up a bit. If i can crank out enough videos during fall, i should earn enough to buy one LOL... Diapers ain't cheap!
@@rawrfishing Oh I see. Well I'd love to see a video playing around with the idea of swapping the side plates between the reels! Seeing how the brake systems differ in both feel and performance you know what I mean?
Interesting, I will have to see if kastking can send the breaking side plate as a space part. I want to try it on my zephyr. Hopefully I can buy one from them since it currently is only offered on Aliexpress
I tried it for a few casts. Doesn't really seem to do much. But it does work. Perhaps I need to take it out on a fishing session instead of casting In the yard
Yo whatsup man long time no talk, I don't know if you know me but I am the kid with the use to be Fishing-With-Jayden-Yt and also the kid who would always ask you to fish with 1r1r in one of your vids. Also told you my story about catching largemouth bass in 4 years and caught some on a cicada.
Nice looking reel but no drag clicker makes it a no go for me. It's part of why I haven't bought an Alphas Air TW. You might be on to something with that parts swap!
Thx man! I might have a sharky 3 spinning reel somewhere.... if u want it, I can sell the whole thing to ya including the drop shot rod... but I am more excited about this reel lol
thanks! Well, my goal is to figure out the min weight. but i assume it will be 1/8th oz when spooled half way with thin line. perhaps it's by thirds since their spool got two lines before reaching the max. In regards to max weight... i guess it isn't a big swimbait reel.. so perhaps smaller glide baits to 1.5 oz? i don't throw that big anyway. So stay tuned for my feedback after fishing this reel for a bit!
Sup Jimmy. Interesting reel! I put line on my 2 combos, rods have lure limit. 1 is 1//4-3/4oz, 1 is 1/4-1oz. Does that mean can't use. 1/16-1/32oz? Have spinning rods so is ok. In future do they make ultra light combos? Or buy Seperate? This reel can cast those. Ty
That is correct. Rod rating helps you determine how much it can load up and spring out during the cast. Spinning rods may work a bit easier since line just spirals off, but distance wouldn't be far. You would need to pair the right rod and reel for best performance.
@@rawrfishing yea have few ultralight spinning combos. Didn't know about oz limits baitcasting poles/combos til saw on rod when putting line. I will get good enough so at some point I can go ultralight baitcasting👍. Oh is 1rod1reelfishing mike? Forgot to ask. Ty
regardless of spinning or baitcasting, or fly fishing... or any sort of rods, they all have specs and should go by them in order for you to achieve the best casting distance, accuracy and fishing action. Yes 1r1r is Michael Hsiao
@@rawrfishing Ty jimmy. I never once tought about rod capacity, broke an ultralight rod years ago, could've been lure to heavy? Never saw on a rod before, will go by action unless says. I subscribed to mikes channel. Tyvm
Potentially, I don't know why it happened, but anything could have happened. for instance, you slapped the rod on the ground by accident while unhooking a fish and that compromised the rod. then next cast, as the rod loads up, it snaps. enjoy mike's channel, he's one of the OG fishing RUclipsrs!
I have seriously turned everyone i can onto kast king. I use perigee II rods.....blackhawk telescopic goes really well with my zephyr.....i can spool it if i want with minimal weight. @@rawrfishing Ok the magnet systems just don't work no ware as good as like the daiwa inductor braking system or centrifugal braking systems or the DC types. so for me it was a waste when I got reels with all those magnets.
jerkbaits can be tough on baitcasting reels for sure unless it got a long cast weight shifting mechanism. So i hope this be good, especially the lighter ones!

Swap the spool with the Zephyr first. Then the side plate. Then both. Ned rig is a good test bait.
I could always just use the body for sure. Bearings will be a mismatch tho. But will be okay
Very interesting 🤣🤣 the zephyr's spool fits well lol 😆😆
hehe u know I have to now test it :P
I finally tryed my curado DC and its pretty good so far it definitely cast farther then all of my others
Dude the DC reels are the bomb dot com
Fins windtamer braid casts absolutely divine on my kk gear. My conquest bfs seems to like flourokote.
I like fluorokote! That's a nice bfs reel I got there!
Can't wait for the Megajaws Elite, with their new braking system...i just hope it will meet my expectations. Keep up the dope work btw my friend!

I just bought the sharky 3 baitcaster, love the sharky 3 spinning reels, hope this holds up as well
I hope it goes for u as well! I have not used mine for a while
wow the breaking system a step above from high end reels.
From kastking high end reels :p. Still won't beat the mag force z style brakes from daiwa. Even the lowest end version

Zephyr vs sharky ?
They are Different size class reels used for different weight lures. So you have to choose between bfs or a size reel that is probably around size 70.
