    I was shopping for low cost practice putters and found the Bernoulli putter in glow plastic on sale so I picked one up. The plastic feels good and it flies great. I fully support biodegradable plastics.

    I love your flight paths for each disk you throw. One thing that I think would be interesting (if possible) if you had something down range to show wind direction at different distances to infuses the effect of the wind on the flight path. I know at height wind can be different but still something I'm thinking about every time you guys show a disc off.

    Did you not know that Lone Stars Lima plastic is biodegradable?
    You ought to do a long term experiment with these biodegradable discs and see how long it takes.

    • @DiscMaimer

      Are you sure about that? All they say is "It will biodegrade QUICKER than other plastics". All plastics will degrade over time. This could just mean it will degrade in 100 years instead of 1000. It could even mean it just breaks down into microplastics faster. They don't claim it is anything but plastic, so it's likely just a different type made from the same crude oil all plastics are (besides naturally derived plastics like PLA and PHA). It sounds like cleverly deceptive marketing, making you think it's okay for the environment when it's no better than anything else. I would love to be proved wrong though, I don't need more reasons to dislike the company when I actually kind of like the feel of some of their plastics.

      @@DiscMaimer, that's why I think a long term test would be cool. I've heard stories online about Lima discs that have been left outside for a couple of months, and then shattered when they hit something. I'd like to know the truth about that plastic.

      People who really get significant value from the store and doesn't want to lose access to the store.
      Frankly I wouldn't do it either for any company right now. That being said, this channel is one of my first stops to get an idea of what discs I'd like to try next. I love when they test like 10-20 to try to fill x role in the bag. Say a straight mid, or flippy distance driver, or beefy fairways.

    Logarithmic spiral? I will never look at my ice spins the same again. Five glide putter? Is this a first? Flight numbers don’t matter but does it glide like a 5? These discs are interesting. I am glad that you took the time to tell us about these discs. Good luck at Idlewyld. Haven’t gotten my Løft discs yet.

    • @SixSidedDiscs
      @SixSidedDiscs  5 месяцев назад +3

      There are a few five glide putters for sure, the Streamline Pilot comes to mind, is the number accurate? Hard to say. Glide is supposed to represent a disc's ability to maintain flight, so big chunky rounded discs that closely resemble frisbees probably generate the most lift. By that standard, the Glitch, Pitch, Beetle will be towards the top, the Pilot and Bernoulli might well have "5" glide,.

    • @bakerby
      @bakerby 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@SixSidedDiscs That makes sense. Yes, the Beetle certainly resembles a frisbee. Thanks for mentioning it, I don’t throw one per se, but I feel it’s often overlooked by content creators.

    A logarithmic spiral is one where, if I draw a straight line through the center, and you measure the lengths along that line, marked off by where it intersects the spiral, each length is some constant multiple of the previous. eg, your first line segment could have a length of 1, then 2, then 4, then 8... The constant factor here being 2.
    Have a BS in pure math. Nice when I actually get to share some of that knowledge once in a while.

    • @kruksog
      @kruksog 5 месяцев назад

      (I should have stated, there are other ways to define a logarithmic spiral, but I find this is the most natural or easiest to understand for lay people.)

    The whole recycled disc trend is wildly overrated. Biodegradable discs are too. The vast majority of plastic waste comes from... drum roll... INDUSTRY. Not to mention other countries with worse waste practices create multitudes more plastic waste than we do, and it often winds up in rivers and the ocean. Consumers are not to blame and should not feel responsible for plastic waste. I mean it's neat that it's bioplastic, but DO NOT feel bad about losing a disc or buying non recycled pistic discs. I'd say it's a drop in the bucket but it's more like an atom in the swimming pool. The disc golf industry should be conscious about their waste practices, but as consumers it should be the last thing you are worried about when it comes to the environment. Reduce waste from products you buy. Chose options that are zero waste. Consumables like detergents, food items, water bottles, etc. This whole green signaling in disc golf has gotten out of hand

    They remind me of Apple. Believing they doing the right thing by making products from ethical materials. In reality, they are doing the opposite of being green. When a disc biodegrades where it can no longer be used, more recycled plastic and energy must be used to replace it.

    • @SixSidedDiscs
      @SixSidedDiscs  5 месяцев назад +6

      This is a great point. I think a lot of people, myself included in this case, think of the product life-cycle in a very narrow view. The disc exists, people throw it, then what. How much environmental consideration is going into the production process? Great thought! I would apply this same thought though to all manufacturers. Recycled plastic is great, but what about the supply chain, logistics, manufacturing, etc.

      Apple is one of the most criminal companies on the planet. They are nearly as bad as Tesla. Apple uses slave labor in China to make iPhones and other junk. This company is developing ways to make plastic that is biodegradable and environmentally safe. That is heroic And morally responsible.

      So would it be better for the disc to not biodegrade? This argument only stands up if the lost disc is eventually found by a disc golfer

    • @digr810
      @digr810 5 месяцев назад +1

      When you throw a disc and lose it more plastic and energy has to be used to replace it. The difference here is it doesn’t remain in the environment for thousands of years.

  • @Alliat6364

    I'm curious about how this degradable plastic endures the conditions in my bag. I'll throw a disc and it'll get wet from the dew in the grass, mud around the basket or water hazards... Not to mention all the snow during winter. This wetness will get into my bag and onto my other discs, including those biodegradable ones. I worry that they'll just go right ahead and biodegrade themselves to oblivion while sitting in my bag. I'll need to get a plastic bag to have in my disc bag to shield the biodegradable discs from all the humidity. That being said, I welcome all efforts to make the sport more environmentally sustainable. It's all trial and error and I believe this is a step in the right direction.
