Alice Pierce was diagnosed with cancer before "Bewitched" started and was told she was terminal. She was offered the role of Gladys and became fast friends with Elizabeth Montgomery. By season two it was clear she was ill and she died in March 1966. In season three Gladys was recast with Sandra Gould who stated she "couldn't do what Alice did," and her version of Gladys was much more of an antagonist to Samantha. Though Gould would appear in seasons 3-7, and once in the spin off "Tabatha" in the late 1970s, Alice's Gladys was used much more frequently in her less than two seasons than Sandra's over 5!
There's a line, I think from the 80s BBC comedy show "The Young Ones," where a character says "don't try to crucify yourself; you can never hammer in the last nail. I should know - I've tried."
Gladys is one of my favorite characters ever! Her name has even become slang for a nosy neighbor. Thank you, Alice Pearce and Sandra Gould, for all of the laughter. :)
After the three tied up children are released, Samantha and her neighbors are meant to be walking down the stairs. Instead, they walk off to the right without going down at all revealing that they were on a separate set than the one with the stairs.
The telephone cord is tied up 😂
Thats got to be one of the best Gladys moments!
The poor thing, and she was always right 😊❤
I'm here to connect the telephones...oh go right ahead. 😂
Yes, I can see the telephone cable is unplugged, but she can speak to someone by using that telephone. Ha ha ha what a film!
Endora was not reading Harper's Monthly, but Harpies. 😅
I noticed that also.
Even better, it's Harpies *Bizarre* 😆
Gladys & Endora were very funny those expressions are their faces would make me laugh😅😅😅😅
She’s my Favorite Mrs. Kravitz.
Sadly she passed away when they were still filming the show.

Alice Pearce. She was amazing in 'On the Town'.
This Gladys was the best Gladys character in Bewitched.
yeah she never tried cause trouble like the second Gladys.
Boy: Are you a good witch or a bad witch?
Endora (in French): Comme ci, comme ça ("So-so")
Pretty much defines her character perfectly!
Yes we know
We alll loved poor Gladys. RIP Alice Pearce. What a shame she passed after only one series. I read that she knew she was dying the whole time.
I believe everyone has encountered a Gladys in their neighborhood sometime along the way.
Gladys is talking on a prototype of a wireless smartphone. Haha (ive watched the episode to know its a gag).
She was the best Gladys. Who remembers her maiden name
It was Gruber.
Yes she was!
Agnes Morhead
The telephone cable is unplugged, but the telephone communication is connected.
🤔
Samantha needed to call Darin 📞 earlier in this episode and forgot to disconnect it 😳 lol
Gladys was fantastic
Alice Pierce was the best Gladys Kravitz. I like Sandra Gould When she yelled "Abner!" 🤣
Harpie's Bizarre magazine is the best magazine ever.
My favorite Endora line ❤
Perfectly said too!
Poor Gladys, no one believed her.
I'd ask Gladys to sit in front of a cement mixer, too.
Most people don't like the truth .
Her middle name was Cassandra.
Sadly Alice Pearce died in 1966 from Cancer, it was a horrible loss, she was extremely talented and lovely!!!!!

Yep, Rik is trying to do that & Neil delivers that line.
@@oevilone I swear, I hear that theme song in my head all the time. "Once in every lifetime..."
Neil
Great show!
gotta be Neil
Poor ole Gladys did it again!

Êtes-vous une gentille sorcière ou une méchante sorcière ?
Comme ci comme ça 😂
Those days kids were outside!
i like this gladys
Samantha is dressed like Lois Griffin.
Best Gladys ❤❤❤
gladys kravitz and margaret drysdale the original karens
Those were the days......
You only had to worry about having witches for neighbors.
Gladys was on to Samantha from the start
She was smart to see how that was impossible.
Mrs Gladys I believe you, must admit she my favourite
4:11 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Omg 😱
She should have been called Cassandra rather than Gladys. 😂❤

Samentha should never tell her neighbor come anytime because she will be to ask for sugar All the time.
Nowadays, if three kids were tied up like that, Samantha would've been in a lot of trouble!
Does edora have a beatifull daughtger like her
That's funny, but it's something you wouldn't see done to children in 2024 sitcoms....(children being tied and gagged)😂😂
A young Ron Howard appearing in this episode.
None of those three kids is Ron Howard.
I suspect something supernatural is going on.
😂😂😂
WHY did both mothers take the rope?????
The laugh track was just awful.
Why is there a menorah in the entrance
Liz Montgomery’s husband at the time was Jewish.
Actually, it's not a menorah. Too many candles for one thing. And, the candles are only placed during Chanukah. It's empty the rest of the time.
😁☕️❤️
Coitada da Sra Kravtz ninguém acredita nela!!!!
Gladys was the OG conspiracist
Remember when everyone on TV was white? Looks funny today.
