A perfext mixture between the sounds of symphodeath ala Septicflesh and the gritty voice of Henning reminding me of Rusell Allen or Kelly Sundown Carpenter. The orchestra sounds amazing, a money very well used. I'm proud of be a supporter and I must tell you guys did it great. Can't wait for the rest of the album.
Damn... The diference between this and your previous work is astounding. It's pleasing to see how much you guys evolved. Congratulations and keep it up!
My humble opinion: The band sounds amazingly powerful and great. The lyrics tho... meh. Mark has been pushing this "self help" sort of messge in his songs (Epica and Mayan) for way too long and it becomes repetitive. Also, he uses way too much imperative mood, which also tends to repetitiveness. The message is also too literal. It could be good to add some metaphors or elements that give some abstraction to the ideas. My comment comes from a constructive point of view since Im a big fan of mr. Jansen's work.
It's interesting - they've taken a leaf out of Septicflesh on a musical level (and that's great), but they could have done the same with the lyrics too lol :P
I can understand very much what you mean. Though I believe that the lyrics to this song are meant to be taken with a grain of salt. "The rhytm of freedom - prevail or die" doesn't seem like something I would imagine as an inspiring quote. I'm not sure, but I think this song is about the pressure of capitalism/work etc. that is imposed upon us in our lives - make one mistake and you're dead, betray your superiors and you're gone. They try to keep us happy by telling us "you're special, stay on track, come on, commit with everything you have!". I'm not sure though, sometimes it sounded, as you said, like the usual 'take on your life as you wish' inspiring lyrics stuff. Which I don't dislike, generally, but seems way overrepresented in Epica's lyrics lately. Check out their 'Attack on Titan'-EP, they have a nice twist regarding that theme in there, because the lyrics are actually mostly translated from the animes openings ("awaken your will to kill").
This song is absolutely awesome, musically. Brutal, technical, fresh and powerful. Though I find the lyrics hard to follow- are they to be reflected upon critically? Or to be taken at face value? Both seems possible. Though I find "prevail or die" not to be acceptable as sensible life philosophy.

Dit is pas wat ik noem een combinatie van symfonische gothic metal en melodieuze death metal. :D
I miss the socio-political lyrics of the previous albums :(
