    My first pair of Costas was a pair I found in the surf at Pensacola. It was entangled in some seaweed and being pounded in the surf. There was some growth of barnacles/sea life on the frames but not the lenses. i took them to the Bass Pro in Destin and they said it was an older model called Manta Ray...I think? But they hadn't sold them for a few years. The lenses are still scratch free and the glasses look new after a little cleaning of the frames. I am now getting ready to buy a pair of the Permit w/ Blue Mirror Glass and I am excited for a pair of glasses I wont have to replace every year or two. The lack of distortion is also amazing. I am a cheap skate for the most part and I never thought I would spend $280 (includes tax) on a pair of sunglasses. Had I not found this pair being pounded in the surf, for months at the very least and still in perfect condition, I would of never considered dropping nearly $300 for some shades. CRAZY IDEA...maybe Costa ought to drop discontinued glasses in the surf along the beaches and let people find glasses in the pounding surf and be as impressed as I was??

    So the Blue Mirror and new Gray Silver Mirror only differ in looks? If you had a pair of each, and closed your eyes and put one of them on, would you be able to tell which ones you were wearing simply by looking through the lens?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  6 лет назад +2

      Hey, Taylor thanks for commenting! The Blue mirror will reflect more light off the lens compared to the gray silver mirror, which is why it's considered the best lens while on the open water. There is a slight difference when looking through the gray silver mirror because it can come with a copper base. When you get the gray base with the silver mirror then yes it will look very similar to the blue mirror when looking through.

    • @zurikin

      I think that the blue mirror has a distinctive yellow tint that is completely different from the grey with silver mirror. The blue mirror is my least favorite lens.

      I agree with you. I bought a pair of blue mirror Blackfins and received a pair of grey mirror Blackffins for Christmas
      The blue mirror does have a slight yellow tint to it. The grey silver mirror are pure grey.
      Easily seen on bright days if you switch back and forth just playing.
      I prefer the blue mirror myself. For my eyes, I can see better in the water with them and can easily spot fish and make out the bottom on the flats.

I want a pair I can wear everyday for lifestyle wear but that I can also take fishing. I do lots of different types of fishing from coastal, to lakes for bass, to small streams for trout. What would be the best lens to get?

    • @sportrxeyewear

      Great question Troy! Since you already have the blue, and you mentioned 2 freshwater environments, you would likely benefit from Costa's 580 Green lens with a copper base. Hope this helps! 👓

    Hey guys! Thanks for these videos you've been posting. Was wondering if you could help before I make the commitment to my 4th pair of Costa's.
    Is there any reason why I would want a SILVER mirror COPPER BASED over a GREEN mirror COPPER BASED lenses??

    • @zurikin
      @zurikin 6 лет назад +1

      Preference-wise I prefer Costa's copper based lenses over their gray based lenses for fishing and everyday uses. I get better performace with their copper based lenses. The green copper-based are my go-to pair for fishing as I find the blue one's good for blocking out the sun and glare, but they're no good for fish-sighting or contrast in general. They block out sun and glare very well, but if you're using it for fish sighting and seeing 'cool stuff', the green's are way better for that. I find myself only using the blue pair when I drive a lot, so my green ones' take all the abuse of everyday wear and tear.

    • @zurikin
      @zurikin 6 лет назад +4

      In general, I found the blue mirror in gray based are no good for fish sighting in fresh water, shallow waters, and definitely no good for stained water. It didn't matter if it was in sunny or overcast conditions.
      Will I have the same problem if I get their new Silver Mirror in gray based?? Or is it just safer bet to stick with copper based but in silver mirror if I want something different in my arsenal?
      I guess the real question is:
      Is there any point in buying a Silver Mirror Copper Based pair if I already own a Green Mirror Copper based?
      Long story short, I never regretted buying the Blue Mirror as they're a GREAT pair of sunglasses, but I wasn't too impressed with the blue mirror after reading all the hype over it. I feel like their Green Mirror should be their best seller.

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  5 лет назад

      Hey Big K! For inshore fishing on a lake, we'd recommend going with the Green mIrror or Copper silver mirror. Both lenses have a copper base that will enhance your contrast and allow you to see deeper into the murky water. The only difference between the two lenses is one has a silver mirror while the other is green. I hope this helps please let us know if you need more information!

    Which color would be the best for a sunny day in Panama Florida sight fishing tarpon from a pier?

    • @sportrxeyewear
      @sportrxeyewear  6 лет назад

      Hey Active_Briz! You have two options you can go with. One would be the 580 Blue mirrored lens that has a gray base. It's ideal for open water and offers the best protection. If you are looking for more contrast then the 580 Green mirrored lens is a great option. It has a copper base with the green mirror that allows certain colors to pop more while you are fishing. However, it is not as protective from the sun if you are consistently fishing on sunny days with no skies. I am attaching a couple links below to blogs we have written on each colored lens. They go more in-depth on the technical information of what each color offers. If you still have questions please feel free to comment back :)

      Hey Larue! I am reaching out to our Costa rep to see if there are any replacement Amber lenses available for your Fantail's. From our understanding since the Copper and Amber lenses were very close in style and functionality, Costa decided to discontinue the Amber tint. The copper will perform the same as the amber tint and it is a great choice for sight fishing off the kayak.

      Hey Pit Dawg! The price can vary depending on which frame you select and which lens material you choose. Was there a specific frame you were interested in? I can get you prices right away and answer any other question you may have. Thank you for commenting and leaving us feedback.
