Planted 10 apple trees 2 yrs ago. Wow I had no idea they were so difficult to grow. Seems every day there is a new pest or infection to worry about. It's a wonder we have apples at all.
@@CountryLivingExperience At that point in your video, you explain how to clean the pruners, and about a sealer. :) I don't hear anything about copper. Correct me if there is another place on your vid.
I bought a 3-1 apple last year at Lowes, and it developed canker during the summer. I live in the high desert in CA, we had quite a few fires nearby and then a few days of heavy rain eithy high humidity (rare for our area, it's usually dry). Not long after I noticed my apple developing what appeared to be canker. It's my first time planting apple trees, so I sought out help but got conflicting ways to deal with it. It's still winter, but our daily temperatures are around 45-63, with evening temps only dropping to around 35-45. Would it be safe to cut out the canker now, spray and seal? We're expecting rain next week (2-3 days, not consecutive) The trees trunk is only around an 1 1/4"-11/2" in diameter, and some of the branches affected are rather small. What do you suggest? Please help. Thank you!
Just make sure that you have at least 4 or 5 consecutive days with no rain and you should be good. It is ok for the temps to be lower because that actually helps inhibit the fungal growth.
How did it work out for that tree? Will canker inevitably kill a tree? Or can the coexist? I have a two-year-old Dwarf apple tree (my only one) and it’s only as big around as my thumb… it has a spot that is spreading right in the middle of the trunk. I’d like to not have to prune it
It was bad. All the trees that are infected (3 of my 4 apples) are doing well so far. Putting on new growth and I have not seen any spread of the canker.
I have a young pink lady in southern arizona, i noticed today that the trunk has a splotchy dark purple hew color around it. The bark that is miscolored is very soft and can be peeled back by finger nail and then when i do peel off some bark, the underside of it is brown and crumbly almost like saw dust just beneath the surface. Any tips/ideas what this could be?
@@CountryLivingExperience how can you differentiate from cankers and having borers? also at one point the purple bruise wraps all the way around the trunk is there anything i can really do since i cant cut it all out at once?
@@brendan3081 Borers usually enter through a hole and then sap leaks out of that hole. Without seeing pictures I really cannot tell. If the canker or damage extends all the way around the trunk, you will probably lose the tree.
@@CountryLivingExperience Understandable and i was going to ask if you had a email i could send picture to, but i was just looking at it again in better light and i actually found 3 borers in the tree...however they have eaten up the cambian all the way around a part of the trunk so i expect it to girdle the top part of the tree....fortunatley i think that damage is high enough that I can save the rest of the tree but it will just take a couple years for it to grow back
Sealer for cuts on trees have petroleum products and trees have been healing just fine before Arborist. Making Proper Cuts A. Make an A-B-C cut B. Cut to the branch collar ridge. This is the best 2 steps for a healthy self healing tree.
Watching From kashmir I like your vedios it’s very useful information by me and other peoples thanks sir
Thank you so much. I appreciate your comment.

Fruit trees are extremely difficult to grow. I don't even have apples yet.....After 3 years.
Feel the same way
What are you supposed to treat the canker with after carving?
At about the 2:30 mark I talked about copper spray and tree pruning sealer. Treatment is removal.

@@dladygray9017 Remove all the canker with the knife, cover with the sealer, spray the tree with a 1oz copper sulfate to 1 gal water solution.

I'm in the same area as you! Great question thanks!
Lowe’s trees are proved to spread canker
Thank you brother.
You're welcome

Welcome!!
Can cranker be treated when tree has leaves and fruits. worry about the sap?
Yes. Canker is so contagious and fast spreading you must treat it immediately after finding it regardless of season.
Any updates on this specific tree? I'm just curious how you made out with it...i am debating to try this or just cut mine down.. thank you
The tree is still alive but the canker just came back this year. I am not sure it will survive now.
Where can I get the thing to seal ?
This is the stuff we use.....amzn.to/40ebwtR

The tree is still alive but I am losing the battle. If you don't get all of the canker, it will eventually die.
Very useful. What time of year is best to remove the canker? Can it be done after the apple harvest in the late autumn?
Thank you. Canker is so aggressive that it should be treated at any time. Just don’t do it before a big rainstorm or when it is too wet outside.
Thank you
Can it be treated in summer when there are leaves and apples on trees?
@@newssahm6411 right that's what I need to know.
This was a serious infection. I would love a follow up on how the tree did after such a drastic surgery.

That also sounds like it is canker. Treat it the same way that I did. My tree is still alive and thriving to this day.

did u spray copper on before u painted the wound or after?
We sprayed before and then let it dry prior to sealing. We then will continue to use the copper as a preventative.
Informative vedio
Thank you
thanks

How about a follow up video. I have some big sap looking blobs on a pluot and I am thinking its canker of some sort. Doing the research on fixing it.
Big sap looking blobs are commonly borers. You probably have an insect problem and not a disease problem.
really useful thanks
You’re welcome
Looked like fire blight which is bacterial
Peroxide in water should work then
