I’ve actually seen this movie. Years ago, probably on TCM. I never knew the story on the car. What a treat. They sure did destroy the lovely looks of that car with all of the....ahem...updates. Great story
What a sweet surprize!! I found your vid when satisfying my curiosity about this car. I watched the Topper Trip film and could not figure out the sexy car. Thanks! Subbed for more good stuff.
Topper is a great movie, some real laugh out loud moments. And the drinking, man they love the booze! A replica would be lovely, put a hydrogen motor in there and use carbon fiber to keep the weight down, and of course crumple zones and air bags. If not, then how about an ejection seat? Always wanted one of those, especially on the passenger side. For those who never did see topper, the full movies are all here on YT.
The movie predates the Hupmobile Skylark, however the Hupmobile Skylark used Cord body tooling and the Topper car was at least partially inspired by the Cord. In fact they had considered using a Cord for the movie but something about the FWD layout complicated adding secondary controls. As far as color I have no idea. In the colorized version of the film I have, the car is yellow. At least according the wife. I'm severely color blind and it looks pink to me. But as it was repainted in 1939 it seems unlikely you would find a color picture of it in its original form.

Thanks. That is my general impression of updates.
We were just talking about this film and the TV series with Leo G Carol. Great flick- thanks!!
It is nice when the timing works out.
One of the reasons I love old b&w movies is the cars.
I watch Perry Mason for the same reason.
Perry Mason was good for that.

Thanks, that is always nice to hear.
Excellent!!!!
Thanks
I wish they would make a replica car just like the 1937 car! Would love to see and hear it run/drive.
Me too.
Hi, Hope! Thanks for another enjoyable video! The Roadster at 3:38 is a '32 Ford.
Oh, of course it is. It is the simple mistakes that I most often don't catch. Thanks.
@@thehopelesscarguy Sorry, Hope. When it comes to cars I just can't stop myself from being one of THOSE guys! : )
@@bobtepedino5661 I'm right there with you. Which is why when I go back and see mistakes like that I cringe.
Best car ever!!
I"m fond of it.
That would be a interesting kit for a s10 chassis, that art deco styling is beautiful, that was overdone in a period custom look
It is a bit over done, but it works. The wheelbase was 121 inches, but as a 2 seater it could probably be cut down to a S-10 chassis.

The options are limitless.
Remember the Ted Turner force to colorize these classic Black and White movie treasures? Enjoy the moments with the B&W and the period of these movies
I will take good story over color any day. Of course I am color blind, so that may have some impact.
I thought that the original car was made from a Hupmobile Skylark, and it was yellow in color ?

@@thehopelesscarguy Was a a model called HOLLYWOOD later after HUPP bought Cord tooling...?????
@@bextar6365 The Graham Hollywood was basically the same car as the Hupmobile Skylark.
@@thehopelesscarguy With a Cord hood .
@@bextar6365 A bit more pointy.
That's not a Model A roadster at 03:35 - 03:39, it's a '32.
Perhaps not my only mistake.
@@thehopelesscarguy Stuff happens.
Great presentation, though, and one of my favorite flicks since childhood.
@@-oiiio-3993 Thanks
Did the car had a "nickname"? 🤔
You would think so.
@@thehopelesscarguy So... That's a no?
@@AmodelUniverso90 None other than posing as a "special" for the oil companies that I can recall.
