- In this episode I discuss how to paint the models prior to the wargame of the battle.
This is a link to the War Times Journal store for details of all their wonderful models and much else:

These models are gorgeous and sublimely detailed. They really do look the part painted, great work :)
+Mini Warzone Thanks for your kind words Peter.
+Ralph Astley Very well deserved. Looking forward to seeing them in action ;)
Nice painting but the 3D printed models still leave something to be desired. The rough texture is abhorrent on the final product.
I know what you mean but I would still choose these models over their metal counterparts from other ranges.
Ralph that's some great brush work, I have some books on the sms Emden and as she was made ready for war they pulled up the teak planking to lesson the chance of injury to the crews . Your planking looks the part I will have to look at the web page of the company that makes the ships .Regards Gav .
+gavin booth I'm just painting the Emden at the minute. I intend to paint her according to colours used in Model Boats magazine August 1994. In there she is portrayed with planking on the fore and aft deck but with a plain surface painted dark green on the upper and mid decks. At this scale the 'planking' is way out of proportion, but I like to give the appearance as it breaks up the monotony of mainly grey colours. Definitely check out War Times Journal - their models are in a league of there own.
What base material / diorama did you use to place the Ships on and what glue did you use?
I cut plastic card to size then glued the models to it using Revell Contacta Professional (liquid glue for plastics). Then I coated the surface with Multipurpose Polyfilla slightly thinned with water. I ran a brush through this whilst still wet to form waves and the ship wake and allowed to dry, after which I painted it.
