I get asked this question a lot. Most of the Handles and call numbers are Self assigned. Some radio Clubs will give You numbers to use. for example, I'm a member of "World Wide Sidebanders" So sometimes You Might hear Me call out as WWS-568. man it tickles me to no end that all these guys are shooting the skip and not one can say they are not using some kind of amp to boost the signal, i've been ointo cbs since 73 and still to this day i have never owned nor ever used an amp to shoot skip. been old school since 73 and still running bare foot and still able to contact some of them. have been running my cobra 148 gtl since i bought it new in 89 as a base.

Thanks Chaplain. I used a Tram 1498 base antenna, with a homemade ground plane. To be honest with You, I'm not sure what the power output is.....But it does get the job done! Take care 833. Thanks for watching.
@@MowerJunkie I figured it had to be something like that or the Antron 99. I guess since you're in more of an open area, you're getting out good. I'm within city limits and so I'm guessing power lines and such can dampen waves my way. I am currently opened my superstar 3900G so as to install a frequency meter. I am also to update my fire stick to the Antron 99 that I had back in the 90's. I am looking forward to new communications 151, 73s. Chap833.

@@MowerJunkie thanks a lot I stopped using it because it wouldn’t turn on I was only young I didn’t have a clue then. I checked fuse but that’s as far as I went. But now a bit wiser I think I could get it working it’s probably just a burnt out transformer. Now I know it still has value I’m gonna give it a go I found it up in the attic and didn’t know if to throw out.
