- TV-am was a TV company that broadcast the ITV franchise for breakfast television, in the United Kingdom from 1 February 1983 until 31 December 1992. The station was the UK's first national operator of a commercial Breakfast television franchise. Its daily broadcasts were between 6am to 9.25am.
In this clip from Friday 20th July 1990 we join the programme during the "After Nine" segment, presented on this occasion by Cathy Tayler, featuring astrologer Russell Grant, fitness by Lizzie Webb and a regular cookery slot. Cathy is rejoined before the programme close by Good Morning Britain presenters Mike Morris and Lorraine Kelly; a special news report is read by Lisa Aziz.
Look out for former Eastenders star Joe Absolom in the tv-am adbreak.
Our clip continues with opening continuity from Yorkshire Television before Andy Crane (formerly of Children's BBC) introduces animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Best days of my life these shows made my childhood
summer holidays.. cereal..he-man..play out.
@World Mayhem Organisation That's hilarious!
2020: Utter misery and zero freedom and fun. Muzzles on. Xmas cancelled.
Happy days.
When our countries had their identities, glad this was the time that was part of my youth!
Those were the days...... :)
+Thomas John Kenny (Tom) they most certainly were!
For those of you with long memories, Joe Absolom off of out of EastEnders is being "nifty with a bat" at 10:35.
10:37
1990, very hot summer that year.
Sad to see CITV gone now after 40 years.
This would be around the time Andy Crane defected from CBBC. A few months later he’d join the Motormouth team on Saturdays.
Brilliant memories..i could watch these vids all day
Golden days , uk was so much better back then
Big memories thx so much for uploading this my friend!!!!
Oh wow, the nostalgia. It's incredible! Thanks an awful lot for uploading this. :) BTW if anyone asks the song that Lizzie exercises to is "At the Very Mention of Your Name" by Gilbert O'Sullivan.
Slim fast advert followed by a Mars Icecream advert....
They forget to mention Slimfast has lots of sugar in it. Live on those and you won't shit for a week!
@@katewolfspirit6722 you would know
@@outsidethepyramid Would I? How so?
@@katewolfspirit6722 You announced to RUclips that you lived on Slimfast and you didn't shit for a week!
@@outsidethepyramid Ha ha 😄 no, it wasn't me. I used to work with a nice lady who was always on Slimfast or the Cambridge diet and she had to take laxatives because of it. She was slim and didn't need to diet anyway!
Now I'm thinking about TV am
This earer never to be forgotten littleist hobo he man the best😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Wow... Memories!
That is a rare version of the He-Man intro. The one on DVD and streaming removes the shot of the 'three others' to put on one more production credit.
He-man the most powerful man in the universe *punch the camera. Never noticed how the Bob hairstyle was so much in fashion, that even man at arms had his helmet styled like it.
He-man going for that 10 second super tan each time he transformed from a pasty white Prince Adam. He-man should've released his own brand of tanning products and opened a chain of tanning salons....... *_He-man Fake Tan: You Have The Power!!_*
Looking back it just reminds me of how insane this era really has got, give me these days anytime.best songs, best movies, with a massive side salad of real optimism.
Yeh...and the IRA letting bombs off on a regular basis.
We were never scared about the IRA bombs
This is nice quality. Old VHS recordings are usually pretty crappy.
Yeah,these are great quality vids.
jeez that girl in the in yellow top was gorgeous I think her name was Kathy but not sure and lisa Aziz she was gorgeous to
Eddie Van Halen looks cool in yellow, I had no idea he used to present on this show
14:38 He-Man.
I preferred summer mornings to the afternoons not so sure why
So this was 20th July 1990, Total Recall had been released that Summer. I remember that TV Cook with Kathy Taylor - mentioned as Gwyneth Dover' below and plugging her book ! .. absolutely no internet mention of her apart from a few obscure cook books on amazon - strange.... Also isn't the Sun Pat Peanut ad at 10:30 not voiced by actor Bernard Hill of Lord of The Rings King Theoden (and Captain of the Titanic) fame ? I got here somehow by typing in Roland Rat's catchphrase 'Ratfans'.
I thought the ad was voiced by Ringo Starr
July 23 1990 was my 6th birthday.
Certainly is tv heaven.
This is actually from Friday 20th July 1990
3:51 Gizmo!
Yeah proper structured summer holiday programming :) wacaday inspector gadget he man then I think either supermarket sweep or win loose or draw.
I don't ever remember seeing HE-MAN ever when I was a kid. I only got into it about a year ago. Love it now, wonder if I'd have loved it then? I recall a few spoofs and having a book of it and that's abut it.
It's really a wonder why Gwyneth Dover's recipes didn't catch on. "It tastes disgusting, it looks disgusting, don't eat that, it's revolting."
Yes, silly moo dissing her own recipes. Bet the publishers loved her.
Kathy Taylor without doubt the most beautiful lady on the planet
@Star.80 still is imo
Is she still on QVC? Yeah very attractive last time I saw her on there.
Thanks, was wondering who that bonnie lass was.
Was in Love with Kathy Taylor , just BEAUTIFUL !! 😍
Got a kiss on the lips from her in 1989. She was very pretty back then to be fair.
8.40 Lizzy looks like roger daltrey
Who?
Tommy
Lizzie Webb featuring Gilbert O'Sullivan😁👍
Man I remember this just after Italia 90. Andy Crane had just defected from CBBC as he was gonna be the new presenter of Motor Mouth. Made me laugh when Jeanne said what you doing and he replied I done this before as being in the broom cupboard he had more experience than Jeanne
CreeWilly Steve Johnson Its Torture
@CreeWilly Dave Benson-Phillips?
@CreeWilly Dave BP was on Playdays which was previously called Playbus.
EDIT: According to Wiki there was someone named Steve Johnson who did the gunging on that show. There's no photo so I don't know if he was black or white.
@CreeWilly Ah right, I don't remember him at all. I was all grown up by 1990 so I didn't watch kids tv anymore.
Wonder what happened to Kathy Taylor. She was one of the best assets of TVAM.
12:12 - The IRA planted a bomb at the Stock Exchange Tower. The bomb destroyed the public viewing area of the building. Thankfully no one was killed.
The ghastly Lorraine was around back then?jeez.
I wonder why there was NO wacaday.
+623058top Wacaday was usually reserved for weekends and school holidays, can't remember that far back but could assume that the many schools would've broken up on that Friday (20th July) for the six week summer break. I'm sure someone with an old copy of a TV Times for around that time would be able to put us right.
Wacaday started a week later. I remember as my school was 1 the 1st to break up early
I remember it being a school day. In fact, it was my last day at primary school.
Probably b cause they needed the kids for the show, and being on school holidays was perfect
Reminds me of bunking off school
I've watched a few of these vids from back in the day.
The thing I can't help noticing is how much time is filled with telling about stuff coming up and what's on the following week, must be like 70% of the non segment time.
TV-am has to be one of the worst tv stations ever
LIZZIE
3 beautiful girls
that chocolate desert looked like crap
Kathy Taylor my teenage crush
That scotch one is still on brekkie telly I think.
Yep it's Lorrane Kelly
Yeah that scotch one be Lorraine Kelly and she's so cute she's still on Telly 😁
Lorraine Kelly looks better now 😁
Could I reupload the commercials from this?
+Applemask yes no problem, but we would ask you to credit us for providing the original material. Thanks! tvheaven
Well, of course.
NOT SO BEUTIFUL WORLD RIGHT NOW have too agree on that 2016
#NHS will make this world devastating terrorising confined sectioned

Just wait till 2020, 2021, 2022, it get worse!
That fruit dealer was an idiot! When stacking them that high, how's someone meant to pick an orange without causing an orange cascade?
Unless.......................they intended to cause it, forcing the unlucky customer to have to buy them all? Cunning move random orange seller, cunning move.
You could be right, or maybe it was done to cause the female customers to bend over to pick up said oranges?
Gwyneth Dover...doesn't she have a brother called Ben?!
Used fancy Cathy Taylor
Please send me back 🙏🙏🙏🙏
If some twat said “okay boomer” to my face (despite not knowing what the hell they’re talking about), I’d just smile proudly and agree.
Thanks for these great videos. If there’s one thing RUclips is good for...
Wtf is Lorraine doing with her mouth at the end, she looks like Susan Boyle having one of her meltdown.
IRA scum
decadent 80s
When you believe that the grave wave of paganism, which will soon engulf my Son’s Church, all over the world, is beyond your endurance, then you must ask for my intercession.
Whatever happens, when you remain faithful to my Son, although every attempt will be made to distract you, all will be well. Never feel that it is hopeless, for the great Glory of my Son and the Will of God will soon be revealed.
Itv dumbing down content for the thicko British public and they lap it up. Russell Grant 😂😂
She was the 1st Breakfast TV Queen before Lorraine, what ever happen to her, not been on screen for a long time
Malcolm George she was lovely 😊
She's on QVC
