I grew up with this, softly Softly, Z Cars etc etc. No wonder I cannot stand TV to this day.

They never gave it a chance, it was perfect casting when it came back. Never understood how Emmerdale has survived so long. I loved it and Family Affairs on 5 I used to record both to watch after work.

i think i remember episode 1, seeing a motorbike pull up outside, that kid with the leather jacket, i think he ended up with the daughter, i was obsessed with it back then. i'd love to watch that episode again, i've searched for it but couldn't find it.

The episode exists in our archive and was posted on RUclips but was later taken down due to copyright reasons.

Woah!…did somebody have a pop at Albion Market there?!
‘Albion’ was THE king of soaps with some world class method acting. Who can forget Keith the gormless sidekick?… his performance was a tour de force and brought tears of joy to literally tens of hundreds of viewers. The reason it was canned was obvious, the actors of Coronation Street became jealous and started malicious rumours about how viewing figures were ‘doctored’… we can only hope this new version of Crossroads goes the same way! I’ve been chained to the railings (apart from toilet breaks) here at Granada since they removed my favourite soap from the airwaves…AND I’LL REMAIN HERE UNTIL IT RETURNS!!!!🤬🤬
    ALBION MARKET FOREVER!

I was pleased that it came back - but a bit disappointed after a while. I used to like characters like Vera Downend, Diane Parker, Valerie Pollard, Mr Paul, the Richardsons (of course!), Nicola Freeman, the Hunters, Mr Lovejoy and Mr Booth the chefs (and Shughie, of course!) and Amy Turtle (YES!) but the new one had too many youngsters in it for me. I thought Beverley and Jason Grice and their pals worked very well as the original series coasted home, it was refreshing to have real child/youth actors in the show, but I felt this version was far too heavy on youth. Lovely to see Elisabeth Croft in the programme. Miss Tatum was wonderful.

+1 I agree with you. I also felt the emphasis was too much on the youngsters. I never really watched it because of that. Give me the classic Crossroads any day.

I think that the Crossroads theme music only really had 3 major variations;the original Tony Hatch, the Wings(in my view the best) and this one.The Kings Oak one doesn't count as it wasn't based on the Hatch original.

True, I remember the CITV presenters used to promote this to the kids still watching, even though the proper target audience were the mums who were probably too busy making those kids' teas at 5pm.

How much money did they spend for it to be such a flop? Mind you how much money were spent on building those studios back in the 80’s for them to be sold off to the University of Nottingham in the noughties?

Family Affairs was actually mostly good but it was doomed by these factors
      A) Channel 5 (who weren't actually a bad channel to start with, fuck them for icing Neighbours though)
      B) Up against Hollyoaks which was on a channel more people watched
      C) Lineup and tone changes
      D) Seesaw storylines.

  • @alwaysright429

They brought back just three characters!! There's your answer why it didn't last. You may as well have given the show a completely new title!
Maybe there was shit acting, shit storylines and a shit set before....but the characters were endearing and that's why it kept going.
They bring back Jill, Adam & Doris and think that it'll work! 🙄
