An idea : IF WINDOW IS STUCK UP I drilled two holes in the metal ,guessing the position of the bolts and then I made them a little bigger to correct position . I did not cut any cables. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for posting the video!!! I have a 2009 Xterra. I was able to bypass cutting the cables. Like Mr. Epperson, I was able to get a small ratchet in from both sides to undo my window which was stuck up at the top as well. Total time was just under 50 minutes and NO issues - thanks to your video. Well done.
Nice video. My son called me this morning and said his window was stuck down. It has been lagging. Ordered the regulator, motor, and switch assembly. The switch has always had issues, so I figured I'd get it all done. Thanks!
@@steveslearninglab5961 Did it today. Directions were great, but it didn't improve the performance. I think there was too much resistance in the rubber track. It was pretty difficult for me to move the window up and down with my hands when it wasn't attached to the motor assembly. I put some grease and silicon lubricant in the track. It will go up and down on its own now, but it is still very slow. One tip! If you glue the cold barrier back in place, put it back in place before you add the adhesive! I made a mess!
Thanks Steve. Just used your guide to swap out the driver side power window assembly in my '05 SE. Done in less than 60 minutes in part thanks to your video. (Bar clamps came in handy for holding the glass while disconnecting it from the actuator and to hold glass panel all the way up while I finagled the new assembly into place) Word to the wise, be careful with the screws that hold the brackets the panel bolts to... they start to strip very easily if over tightened.
Hey brother, did your other windows work? My driver side was going out, now it doesn't work and neither does my other windows. I'm wondering if bc one doesn't work, none of them do or if it's something else.
@@skitzojp I did only the driver's side, no problems with the other power windows. Sounds like your problem might be two-fold if none of them are working at all. Check/replace fuses first. If that doesn't work I'm not sure where to go next.
Thank you sir - followed your video and was able to take my door apart enough to push my stuck window back up - repairs when I can afford it but for now I won’t freeze lol - you’re golden thank you
I just did my driver side. I would say it took me the same amount of time but thanks to you it saved me at least 30 mins or more having to figure out where to pry on the plastics. I must have purchased the same $44 amazon part you did. It lined up perfectly. Don't need the expensive dealer part. Thank you for this video!
Thank you so much for this! Just replaced the assembly/motor on my '08 Xterra. Thankfully I could get mine to sometimes roll down to remove the bolts (although for a minute thought I might have to cut the cables). Took about an hour from start to finish but I was going slow and running back to double check the video a couple of times. Much appreciated!
I did this to my 2006 Xterra drivers side window and now will do it on my passengers side window. Watched this both times. It works great. Thanks for doing this PSA. Update 2/16/2022. I have the Wuhon so I am now doing my intermittent drivers side door switch. Had to revisit this video :)
Followed your instructional video today and successfully fixed my Xterra's driver window! It rolled down this morning then gave out. My first time to try anything like this as I am not particularly car savvy. Finished in just over an hour. Much appreciated.
Awesome video! Thank you so much! It helped me replace the window regulator on my Nissan 2008 Xterra. The only steps I did differently were with securing the window - I moved the window all the way up, secured it with duct tape (bolts removed), installed the new regulator and motor, then manually lowered the window to the regulator and easily secured both bolts - done! Everything was so easy thanks to your video! I even used an old shoe in case the window accidentally drops :) Two thumbs up!!
A couple of tips...in many cases if you tap on the motor area while manipulating the switch the motor may work long enough to get the regulator in the position where the bolts are accessible. Also when you get the new regulator installed, plug in the motor and switch and move the regulator to position it to again have access through the access holes. Then remove the tape from the window and lower the glass by hand to align the bolts holes. Good luck.
Excellent! Same make and model we have. This saved us this rainy weekend! Thanks for the video. I look like a hero for helping my boyfriend with this project 😁
I have to say this is the most helpful video I have seen for this I have been trying to fix this same issue for months and had no idea what I was doing and just stopped thank you very much now I feel very confident in going home and getting this done
thanks for the video. i had the same thing happen on my 07 xterra and after watching your video i was able to change the parts out in about an hour. hardest part was kicking myself for forgetting to put the last three screws in and pull the harness through the door panel before i clipped it back on. i was able to pust the window down after cutting the cable so i could use the two lower holes to remove the bolts.
This is insanely easy, was able to complete the repair in under 30 minutes. The most time consuming part was removing the door panels and white piece. Actual install of the unit took about 5 minutes. It was also nice the motor has a clip on it that holds it in place instead of having to hold it in place while inserting the three screws. This job was far easier than replacing her passenger side mirror twice.
Guys if your window is stuck in the down position and you hear the motor trying when your try to roll it up - try banging the door arm rest lightly to get the window moving back upward. Also you can try holding the button up and try closing the door while pressing the button, it got mine to roll back up.
Great Video. Thanks. Suggest that before beginning this project that you double check that you have adhesive to use when reinstalling the "cold barrier" I reached this point and found that everything that I could have used had solidified. I had to run to a home improvement store to get more. All in all, a great video that helped me very much. Entire project from start to finish took only 45 minutes.
I have an 08 Xterra. I replaced the driver’s door switch as my window was down and wouldn’t come up. I bought a new motor/regulator in one. If I unplug the old motor and plug on the new motor without actually installing it-is that a way to see if the new motor works? I tried that but nothing happened. Does the new motor/regulator have to be installed in the door to work? (Update: the new part had to be touching metal on the door to work. Maybe it grounded it. I got the new part installed and the window works! )
@@rauljaime8080 when I plugged in the new motor/regulator and touched it to the metal on the door it worked! I put it all together and it's fixed. Maybe it has to be grounded to work.
I have a 06 Nissan Frontier and the door panels are basically the same as an Xterra. I killed two birds with one stone, changed the regulator and the door speaker. The window would sometimes roll down and sometime wouldn't. Also factory speakers suck so went with some kenwood 6x9's. I put everything back the way I took it out, just feels something loose on door panel when I close driver door. Feels like maybe screw didn't screw in right or a plastic retainer was broken when i reinstalled. So when I put a little pressure when closing the driver door feel some play or its kinda loose. Don't really want to redo job b/c was a bitch to take off and put back on. Regulator and speaker sound and work awesome. Thanks for the video, keep'm coming.
Thanks for the instructions, I have replaced both driver side and passenger side window regulators without issue and MUCH cheaper than the dealer. Appreciate the tutorial.
I know this video is now 6 years old, but I still have a question. Does your vehicle have the quick up and quick down window function, and if so, was the replacement part compatible with this function? Because I found a replacement part that apparently wouldn't work with the quick up and quick down function.
Hi, as I recall it does have the quick up/down. ...and yes it worked fine when I replaced the regulator. Feel free to comment again if that didn't answer your question. Thanks
Thank you for this. Couldn't get the window down but was able to go in through the hole on the right side and slowly unbolt the window from the regulator.
This was a HUGE help! Thanks for the video. My window was stuck in the up position too. I didn't have cable cutters, but I was able to get a 1/4 inch ratchet on the window bolts to remove them. It wasn't easy but it is an alternative.
How did you get the second bolt out from the window when it was stuck at the top? I had the same thing happen to me and it literally took me three hours to remove the right side bolt by cutting the cables and rotating the regulator to expose that bolt all the way at the bottom of the door. It works now, although it doesn't sound very smooth when it initially goes down.
Dude, GREAT video. I have the same car and had the same issue. However, I was able to squeeze my skinny arms thru the openings in order to unscrew the bolts the hold the window and didn’t have to cut the wires. :)
This was close but left off some important details - removing the water barrier and putting it back AND how to do it if the window was down - had to remove the speaker and get my fat fingers onto the window screws to lift up the window to get the old motor/track out- was hard - but otherwise it’s done and working !!!

You should still be able to access the bolts that hold the window. You may have to un-attach the window itself from the mount then slide it up to the top....then secure it so it does not fall. I hope this helps.
If you can get the window up and down, I was able to by banging on the door, tape the window with the window screws visible, remove the screw though the screw hole and loosen the other one finger tight, then raise the window to the top and tape it there also then remove the finger tight window screw and replace the regulator and motor, you will have allot more room to maneuver in that cramped space, holding the window up from the bottom of the glass and lower it gently until the tape is holding the window at screw level and tighten it up.
Mine died with the window all the way down. If you're in the same position and can't get to the right 10mm bolt holding the window to the regulator, remove your speaker and go in from that angle. It's pretty much impossible without cutting the motor's cable otherwise.
I replaced my switch and it wasn't that. I bought a window/regulator (in one) on amazon and will try installing that myself. Amazon has some super prices on car parts!!!
Good luck. Don’t buy the 2005-10 Nissan 4 liter. The radiator leaks coolant into the transmission. Nissan extended the warranty covering this problem to 8 years or 80,000. I started having trouble long before this. But they wouldn’t honor the warranty until coolant was found in the transmission fluid which happened under 80,000 but I was 2 months over the time period. They would not work with me locally (McGavick) or nationally. I really liked the truck so I shelled out the money for a new transmission, radiator and fixings. Now less than 10,000 miles and 2 years coolant in transmission again. Again no help at local or national. Stay away from Nissan. They could care less about you!
That's the first thing I did when I bought mine was install an external transmission cooler. I paid the guy at AutoZone who sold me the cooler about $70 and he installed it for me. My oil cooler went out recently and I had an oil/antifreeze mix in the radiator and after that, I swapped to a newer radiator and ditched the external tranny cooler. Saved me from the SMOD - strawberry milkshake of death. Nissan fucking sucks bc they know this but won't issue a recall.

Saved me from the SMOD - strawberry milkshake of death. Nissan fucking sucks bc they know this but won't issue a recall.
Outstanding, less than an hour- but I was atop the shoulders of a giant. Thank you
