If something claims to be based on cutting edge military technology, it's probably a scam, because that sort of stuff is all classified and will be for probably decades, patent or no patent. Also if the patent recently expired then we're talking about drone technology from around 1998-2002. I've seen drones from that time period in the Smithsonian! They're all conventional aircraft the size of a hangglider or ultralight!
the patent could be so vague it could apply to any existing drone. or its a mechanism inside the drone. notice no reference to a patent number that could be looked up
You explaining the hilarious back stories of these sham products marketed to the very lowest of the lowest of the low has become my absolute favorite RUclips experience. I love those stories and I love how you narrate them. Great job.
I bought one of these, they charged me for 4 and sent me 4. I could not get my money back either. I saw the ad on youtube and was hoping half of it was true. Turns out they are just 12$ pieces of junk, thats why they sent 4 and charged me 250$, big return for them.
I've seen the ad for this drone on RUclips and while I knew it was clearly a scam I also wondered how bad it could be. Now I know and knowing is half the battle. I'm also now subscribed as well. Great video!
the sad thing is that youtube had this on their channel, cash in on the bucks, and don't care what crap they are selling, there are countries where the host gets sued for the content they broadcast, inappropriate content, misleading content or scams etc.
It's the equivalent of about 40$ in legit online stores around here, marketed as a toy for children. Listed specs are: 2Mpx camera, 9 minutes autonomy, 100m range, 500mAh battery and a microSD slot (card not included).
I remember buying one of these on eBay for like $20 to practice before buying a more expensive drone. It was a lot of fun until it caught a breeze and flew into the void.
Since you had fun, it was well worth $20 I trust? You can't get a lot for $20 these days anyway. (other than half way decent china made tools from Harbor Freigt). LOL
I think when you ask at @03:45 if there is anything wrong with these two ad: Yes, It was a pre ad video on RUclips where 70% of ads are scams and Google should pay financial compensation and held liable to everyone that has been scammed for not vetting their clients and being a tech company not using AI to detect a scam advert.
Great video, Ken. I'm glad you're shining a light on these things that trick people. I worry about my mom who's getting up there in age, and she's preyed upon often by scammers.
It is flying, so that means gooood 👍 who cares that everything else is crap 🤣😂 right❓ Hehe, at least Ken got it, made cool video and video is way bether than having that drone even for free 🤣. Take care everyone 😁
Bought one years ago when it was a bit more expensive and it made a nice messing around gift, but only if you buy it more directly from one of the Chinese sellers rather than via a scammy dropshipper
I'm in Thailand at the moment and their Ali Express is called Lazada and that Drone now comes with 2 cameras (including the front mounted one offering 4K resolution) is going for between US$8-US$20 depending who you buy from and is listed as the E88 Pro Drone.
If it had a slightly better camera and local recording and was $30 I'd probably buy one for use in property inspections. A drone that can help you inspect a house roof, while being cheap enough that you could abandon it if it got stuck in a tall tree, is potentially useful.
Yeah that exists, its called the Eachine e58, its got a SD card slot, has tons of spares available, and is pretty cheap. I used one before. If you want one with GPS, get a 4drc f11.
@@TicTac-g7m If you were inspecting a large tract of land or taking publicity photos for real estate or something, I'd go with a DJI drone. For the purposes of my former line of work, anything made by DJI is going to be too expensive and valuable to risk, or too large to go where it will sometimes need to go. Sometimes we needed drones that could fly indoors where it didn't matter too much if unauthorised occupants broke them.
I really suggest getting one of these, iv got 2 of them and they are the most "fun" drones I have. As much as this vid is about the sales scam the actual drones when bought for the right price are a good laugh. Here in the UK i paid £20 for 2 of these both of which came in there own carry case with spare props and 3 battries. Battary life is not great, but with 3 its not a problem and they charge quite quickly so not to long to wait if you still want to play with it. They are also pretty stable to fly although they do drift alot, but the big bonus that Ken never mentioned which makes them so much fun (especialy for kids to play with) is that they have a button on the remote to make them do diffrent flips in the air and as pointed out they are so light they just dont break when crashed so you can mess about with no worries of damaging it. Also, provided you did not buy through a scam page, they are so cheap you just dont care if it gets bashed.
What really makes me angry is - in Germany Ads like this are not legal but RUclips takes forever to remove them if you make a complaint (should be easy for ai to recognize s**** like this) but oh wonder some small youtube does some little thing: Strike in 5 seconds.
The fact that _everything_ that IS on it works... is amazing. Its like making pizza with filo sheets, thinned potted meat, V8, a spray bottle of cream and producing an actual paper thin pizza flavored and pizza looking thing!
5:36 on the AliExpress page there are two color variants can be selected, and the currently selected has a Color: 1080P. Isn't the resolution 1080P? No, the color! So tragicomically funny, I love it!
Yes in fact if you watch youtubers who review drones some of them recommend these cheap drones as way to learn to fly. Kind of mind boggling how they can put together this drone, package it and ship it for just $20.
It wouldn't surprise me if the camera system was genuinely pulling 720p off the sensor and trying to stream that to the app, it's just that 720p with a really low bitrate captured on an ultra cheap sensor looks way worse than standard definition with a decent bitrate on a decent sensor
If you watch the video closely, even the seller on Aliexpress says it's a 480p (SD) resolution, which most likely drop even further when it only can stream and not being loaded into a memory card.
These types of video are becoming more valuable by the day. So many people getting caught out by things and will believe what the 'read' in the marketing stuff. Most people who will watch the channel recognise that and recognise the stupid-ness of some of the claims but....not everyone, sadly :(
You know what's crazy. This stuff goes on all the time. People buy stuff off the AliExpress and Alibaba and sell it for stupid prices in America because nobody (compared to how many who do) checks those websites for stuff like this. This just has a whole song and dance tied to it.
I use a drone for various photography things (DJI Mini 3 pro) and will often get people coming up to me to say they have a drone too but can't make it hover like that or record the kind of 4k quality. When pressed, they often say that they only paid this amount for a drone and then can't get over the price I paid for mine (some have even said I've been scammed because I could have bought "one of the drones that are under £100"). The fact that it took off actually impressed me, though that was short lived with the battery then dying without warning =D.
I actually have a newer model but not from these guys and mine can actually stay stable in flight and warns you when the battery is dying. The cameras are shit, yes cameras the second camera is pointing forward and doubles as an optical flow sensor. No GPS though.
There would be one use for these. Drone skeet shooting. Buy in bulk from the manufacturer then fly them at a shotgun range for people to try blasting out of the air. The poor flying of them would make it harder.
Yup, these days it will cost you around $20 for "E88 pro" drone. Not bad if you are just trying to learn how to fly a drone in a park. Not a big deal if it crashes either.
JUST remember folks , if it sounds TOOOOOOO good to be true IT PROBABLY IS !!!!!!! Thanks for confirming every suspicion I had about that drone !!!! I'm usually a sucker for these kinda things and luckily I didnt get sucked in this time ! Thanks
Pretty sure one of the first drones it shows it a DJI Inspire. I believe it was near a volcano or mountain or something. Also, it then switched to an FPV drone which the inspire, mavic, autel evo, and most commercially available drones are not. That being said DJI does sell an FPV drone so they can rip that one off next!
I have a similar folding drone that came from aliexpress also. And I enjoy it very much :) It was about 100 dollars 3 years ago. It has a memory card slot inside the aircraft, the app shows the battery percentage of the aircraft, and it has GPS, follow mode, map mode, crash sensors, altitude meter, and a cool(also real) 1080p cam. It is the CSJ s167 GPS drone by the way.
Yes S167 drone appear to be nice drone (at least according to description), way better than bottom tier mavic clones. But I don't see SD card slot as being a feature. It's a shame that most cheaper drones these days don't come with SD card slot.
@@coldspring22 SD card slot is in the camera module. Not easy to access, though. That is why I don't remove it. I transfer the videos over wifi instead.

I recently encountered an obvious scam site claiming to sell $700 pool table sets for $59 with free shipping. It had a 5 minute timer for how much longer the "sale" would last. Just for sh*ts and giggles I let the timer run out just to see if anything would happen. Sure enough, just like this one, it hit zero and reset to 5 minutes. I guess they liked me enough to extend the sale. What a great company!
Brilliant research 👌🏼 For £12 tho I’d say it’s probably worth it Great stocking filler for Christmas If you get it from Ali express in time for Christmas that is
This is fabulous, Ken! You're as funny as the late night comedians 🙂 This is an unbelievable POS. How could Alibaba sell them for $12, even in large quantities?
For a while I was getting bombarded by ads for these flying junk piles. As a long time drone pilot, I have been using DJI products for the last several years. They are pretty much flawless and pack a lot of technology into small packages with great results. As you said, you get what you pay for. I don't think I would even buy one of these pieces of crap for my 11 year old grandson. The video from his toy drone is better than one of these. I too looked closely at the videos I was sent on these things and noticed the ripoff of DJI products and logos. Even at $12, they're still a waste of money.
I know someone who bought one of these and they said they liked it was in All American company and I kept my mouth shut about the fact that it was made in China for $12. He paid $83 on sale for it. I told him that he should just buy a DJI for $600 with the warranty and crash protection and the store he bought it from walked him through how to use everything. Plus for only $35 a visit he can bring it back for help with things like updating firmware and replacing blades or replacing parts that have broken in a crash. Overall he's happy and thought it was worth the money. Long story short, just buy a DJI and you won't regret it
I don't know anything about drones, but the thing that caught my ear was the part of the ad that talked about the patent ending. In the U.S., a patent is granted for a period of 20 years. I doubt that a patent for something as lucrative as a consumer drone would be allowed to just expire. Also, from what I could find in a few minutes of research, there are many patents out there from various companies so the story of a patent "expiring" doesn't make any sense.
In 2018 I purchased an Eachine E58 from Banggood for around $85 it was never marketed like the Skyquad, I crashed it broke things and the FPV experience was not good as the video was awful. But I had fun with it then moved on to better drones. When I saw these ads appear on RUclips advertising I thought I hope nobody buys these. There's an old saying if its too good to be true then give it a big miss.
I picked one of these up for £3 from Temu the other week, for that price it's really good. It's way better than my old £60 cheap drone..actually hovers pretty stable!
13:26 technically even lasers could be considered military technology technically some military Technologies that were worth $5,000.20 years ago are worth like 20 cents now
asked my mom for a fpv drone for christmas… now im here bruh, i think she even expected more from it 😂 dont get me wrong here, it is fun to fly, but the battery lasts about 10 minutes and wont fly straight even indoors, youll spend all your time adjusting the straightness and end up wasting the battery… the camera to phone situation is just streaming to the phone through the wifi and the phone records the footage, in another term: it sucks ass, impossible to fly it through the view on the camera and your shots recorded on it simply arent worth it, it cant even withstand the weight of a gopro either. It does do flips with the press of a button yet it is very uncontrollable also, hover mode just rises it infinitely until u stop it, none of the phone buttons affect the drone, the back to home button sends it insanely fast toward the controller with no collision detection, the pathing system does n o t work whatsoever this thing is terrible for what they said it holds.
It was also in Bulgaria.Even in the ad they were showing 95% stuff shot with DJI drones. They also showed DJI drones quite a few times, jumping between maverick 1 and 2 to 3.And the ads either ended up showing their drone likeness or they didn't even show it.
I find your reviews so helpful and well done. What really bothers me is that RUclips is allowing this false advertising, but will censor someone or defund them for saying the truth about a topic that we all need to know the truth on. so go RUclips allow false advertising and stick it to the public.
They're all conventional aircraft the size of a hangglider or ultralight!
the patent could be so vague it could apply to any existing drone. or its a mechanism inside the drone. notice no reference to a patent number that could be looked up
Most military specs are public. You just aren’t looking in the correct places.

The camera on this drone is actually perfect quality to record footage of bigfoot

Krazy Ken your reviews are great. Please do a review on the cordless mini vac/blower. I saw a number of these lately.
All they care about is whether they were paid or not. The consumer may take it up with their complaint manager, Helen Hades.

Great video, Ken. I'm glad you're shining a light on these things that trick people. I worry about my mom who's getting up there in age, and she's preyed upon often by scammers.
I'm broke, may I have her email to commence the scams? Lmao

I actually got one of these for free, and i admit, i do like flying it from time to time. They didn’t lie about it being able to fly lol.
It is flying, so that means gooood 👍 who cares that everything else is crap 🤣😂 right❓ Hehe, at least Ken got it, made cool video and video is way bether than having that drone even for free 🤣. Take care everyone 😁

Ah yes, the literal minimum.
I'm in Thailand at the moment and their Ali Express is called Lazada and that Drone now comes with 2 cameras (including the front mounted one offering 4K resolution) is going for between US$8-US$20 depending who you buy from and is listed as the E88 Pro Drone.
But RUclips insists we must watch these scan ads. Kind of tells you who RUclips really is.
I wanna see "light bulb security cameras" next after seeing an ad for one while this video loaded
I'm looking into those, too!
If it had a slightly better camera and local recording and was $30 I'd probably buy one for use in property inspections. A drone that can help you inspect a house roof, while being cheap enough that you could abandon it if it got stuck in a tall tree, is potentially useful.
I'm sure those kinds exist.
Yeah that exists, its called the Eachine e58, its got a SD card slot, has tons of spares available, and is pretty cheap. I used one before. If you want one with GPS, get a 4drc f11.
Get a REAL drone for property inspection.
DJI
@@TicTac-g7m If you were inspecting a large tract of land or taking publicity photos for real estate or something, I'd go with a DJI drone. For the purposes of my former line of work, anything made by DJI is going to be too expensive and valuable to risk, or too large to go where it will sometimes need to go. Sometimes we needed drones that could fly indoors where it didn't matter too much if unauthorised occupants broke them.
@@3rdalbum You're gonna have to inspect the roof a lot of times with all these $20 drones crashing on it.
1:42 this also kind of looks like the DJI fly app. It’s like they’re stealing footage.
Also the SkyQuad did have crash detection, but later in the video it crashes in to a tree. Nice.
yes, but Ken mentioned that the drone crashing into the tree was a completely different model.

I've seen that ad so many times. Thank you for debunking this.
A $12 drone, if it flies at all, sounds like a pretty good deal to get for a kid.
Most people who will watch the channel recognise that and recognise the stupid-ness of some of the claims but....not everyone, sadly :(
I watched their ad once and I was instantly skeptical.

I have that drone! It's nearly impossible to control. . . The antennae on the controller are fake, I removed them as they are useless.
I'm glad to see you buy this. I kept seeing these scam ads and RUclips was more than happy to take that advertising dollars while viewers get scammed.
There would be one use for these. Drone skeet shooting. Buy in bulk from the manufacturer then fly them at a shotgun range for people to try blasting out of the air. The poor flying of them would make it harder.
Love your videos Dave. I hope there is a law that puts these people behind bars for misleading.
i bought something very similar in 2018 for like $7 off aliexpress, and for 7 bucks it was pretty good lol

I love this guy: Not only is this information useful but completely entertaining!
I got that exact drone but with different logos for $30 on AliExpress like 3 years ago
I have a similar folding drone that came from aliexpress also. And I enjoy it very much :)
It was about 100 dollars 3 years ago.

You're done a great service to RUclips community. Thanks
You are a legend for doing this and “1080p is so cool!” 😉
I know someone who bought one of these and they said they liked it was in All American company and I kept my mouth shut about the fact that it was made in China for $12. He paid $83 on sale for it. I told him that he should just buy a DJI for $600 with the warranty and crash protection and the store he bought it from walked him through how to use everything. Plus for only $35 a visit he can bring it back for help with things like updating firmware and replacing blades or replacing parts that have broken in a crash. Overall he's happy and thought it was worth the money.
Long story short, just buy a DJI and you won't regret it
An ad made with an AI program told to find drone footage and make a sales pitch?
13:26 technically even lasers could be considered military technology technically some military Technologies that were worth $5,000.20 years ago are worth like 20 cents now
Are you telling me advertisers lie? Wow 😂
We shared this video rather than make our own on what a nightmare this product and its advertising is. Thanks!
asked my mom for a fpv drone for christmas…
now im here bruh, i think she even expected more from it 😂
dont get me wrong here, it is fun to fly, but the battery lasts about 10 minutes and wont fly straight even indoors, youll spend all your time adjusting the straightness and end up wasting the battery… the camera to phone situation is just streaming to the phone through the wifi and the phone records the footage, in another term: it sucks ass, impossible to fly it through the view on the camera and your shots recorded on it simply arent worth it, it cant even withstand the weight of a gopro either. It does do flips with the press of a button yet it is very uncontrollable
also, hover mode just rises it infinitely until u stop it, none of the phone buttons affect the drone, the back to home button sends it insanely fast toward the controller with no collision detection, the pathing system does n o t work whatsoever
this thing is terrible for what they said it holds.
After I bought my Air 2S, a coworker came to me super excited that he had just bought his own drone too. It was this exact one.
It was also in Bulgaria.Even in the ad they were showing 95% stuff shot with DJI drones. They also showed DJI drones quite a few times, jumping between maverick 1 and 2 to 3.And the ads either ended up showing their drone likeness or they didn't even show it.
