I have been dehydrating watermelon for about 2 years. I slice it fairly thin & it turns out crunchy. People I gift it to say it tastes just like candy! Imagine giving someone watermelon candy for Christmas in a pretty decorated jar. Today I'm dehydrating ground up wild purselane for a green powder super-food.
Since you have been dehydrating watermelon for a while and giving them as Christmas gifts, I think I may have part of my answer already....My question is, how long can dehydrated watermelon last? I read online in about three places that the dehydrated watermelon will last about two weeks! If that is the real length of time, then my thought was...why bother with it! I would appreciate your opinion on this. Thank you
@@fadeddenims501 , sorry I am just now seeing this. Mine last a good year ! If it starts getting a bit limp after that - I put it in smoothies or feed it to my chickens for a treat .
Hello Bev, I don't often comment but you are my most favorite clever view each and every day! Every day I look forward to seeing what is Mrs. Volfie up to today. Everyone of your viewers recognize your genius and your amazing stroll down humble humor based on levity of who, what, where, and how. Thank you for all the lives you touch and humbly I am one of them!
my favorite dehydrator candy is take apple sauce in a sauce pan and mixing red hots in it, cook until all is melted, spread out in dehydrator trays (the ones for pureed foods or they are sometimes called rollup trays), dehydrate it, when cooled slice up in strips, roll each strip in wax paper twisting the ends....so yummy and they keep forever in a mason jar in fridge.
OMG love, love, love dehydrated watermelon! Have you thought about doing other melons as well? I have done them all and they all turn out delicious. For people who don't mind a little sugar you can mix powder sugar and powder ginger and very lightly coat cantaloupe chunks. AMAZING! thanks for this video.
My question is, how long can dehydrated watermelon last? I read online that the dehydrated watermelon will last about two weeks! I would appreciate your opinion on this. Thank you.
My kids love dehydrated watermelon. I find its easer to do the ones with the seeds. Because it's easy to pick them out! The white seeds are harder to pick out!
Im overjoyed u dropped the name AND model of ur dehydrator 😁💛! We found 6 trays like this with the do-hickey scalloped thingy in the middle of each dehydrator tray, of course the rest of it was nowhere in my MIL'S garage. Ive been trying to search Amazon to find WHO ON EARTH MAKES A DEHYDRATOR LIKE THIS ..... lo and behold it IS a Nesco! TFS!!!!
I remember my granny did this one summer when I was growing up she had a framed box with alot of screen trays in it she then took come type of cloth and put over it to keeps the flys and what not out of it and put it on the roof.
I have dehydrated watermelon but it stuck so badly I could hardly peel it off the tray. What I did get was delicious. Now I know I had it sliced too thin. Thanks Bev! Going to give this another try!
Strawberries and watermelon, sounds as AWESOME as that strawberry banana gelatin that Jello makes, Don't know if ya know about but grapefruit and strawberries makes a great 'ade' strawberry/grapefruitade!
I tried this a few years ago and had such high hopes for it. It stayed a little pliable and smelled awesome but it tasted like way overripe (like nearly rotting) watermelon that should have gone on the compost. Apparently I have defective taste buds. Glad that you found a new healthy treat.
I'm from the South (Alabama) and I love me some watermelon, I have 1/2 of one now in the frig. Had a yellow meat one but it got ate all up. I'm gonna do this with a red one and a yellow one. Thank you for this video. My husband loves your videos too. I got him watching you and he showed me your video. Thank you. Your awesome!!!
Who'd have thunk it?! Thanks Bev as always for sharing. I know what I'll do with the left over watermelon from now own. I can totally see how they would turn out very sweet.
I live in a high humidity, tropical climate. These will stay like fruit leather for a short time but they get sticky within a day. Dessicant packets don't really help much. So, I guess I'll just eat the watermelon wet, cold and juicy! My cousin tried dehydrating orange slices (with the peels) and one wouldn't have guessed it but to keep it crunchy like candy, you actually have to dredge it in sugar to allow it to crystalize or else it will just become leathery as well. But dehydrated strawberries, berries and bananas are super crunchy! Our bananas turn pink after dehydrating them. I don't know why.
Hey, the things you learn the 1st time doing them, right? Got to give this a try, as sounds very interesting & yummy!! Gracie saying Please is adorable!! What a well trained lil lady she is now. You know, look at that face & I think back a couple of months when you got her &...Love does wonders. 😊😊😄
I bought a pineapple and left it on the counter until the entire outside was yellow (2weeks). then I dehydrated it over this last weekend, and OMG delicious, candy for sure. I was actually wondering how watermelon would be, I love it and I can't eat a whole on by myself. Thanks for sharing.
Wow I never knew you could dehydrate watermelon! So cool, I'm so doing this thanks Mamma.. And you cracked me up when you said the first time "It's Like Candy" hahaha so cute lobe ya bunches! ❤️🌺🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉🍉
SWEET BEV♥ YUMMY and again I am going to do this as you did.. thicker slices. awesome to add to my fruity tootee mix!!! love to you SIS ... thank you for always making my heart smile! HUGS! ♥♥♥ something to hide away for those long winter days ahead I say!!
I've been doing this for a few years...cantaloupe works really well too. I cut mine into short strips instead of triangles...I think I did them about 1.5 inches x 3 inches
Try putting some in a Ziploc bag and put it into the freezer. When they are frozen and crunchy they are so good. When my daughter was little and my husband would do this she'd pull a chair over to the fridge and smack the freezer and say, mommy candy, please.
Dehydrated fruits for children is the best. They think they're getting candy, but they're eating healthy. Thanks for sharing.

You've got me hooked! I love to dehydrate and never thought about drying watermelon! Now I'll have to try my cantaloupes too!
whats the best way to keep it when its done? in a jar like you showed or vaccum seal?
Thank you for this video. Dehydrating watermelon is a challenge. Even the Rind is pliable after longgg hours
I am going to have to try that in my FREEEEE dehydrator a friend gave to us. This looks like a great healthy treat. Thanks Bev.

My sons dog love watermelon. It's my favorite.
I cut my watermelon thinner before dehydrating them. They will dry faster and I also flip them over when they are dehydrating.🍉
I'm definitely going to be doing this I'm addicted to watermelon and so are my fur babies 😍
Yum! Thanks for the idea. I dehydrated all kinds of fruit for my children when they were young! Going to try watermelon too now for the grand babies!
