I can't believe Overboard wasn't on the list
I’m surprised that the first “Overboard” with Goldie Hawn & Kurt Russell didn’t make the top 10 list!
I lived right by Noyo Harbor where it was filmed in Fort Bragg. I was about 12. It was amazing to see as a kid.
Same Time Next Year didn't make it either.
Thank you for mentioning MAGIC. I was an elementary student at Frank Zeek Elementary and was leaning against the fence watching the filming of the cemetery scene. Also, THE HOWLING (‘81); through Mendo, plus cult scenes filmed where my Boy Scout troupe camped. Oh, to be a kid where the werewolves lived.
I said The Howling too Russian Gulch Beach and Campgrounds
I have seen some of these films .I did hear Overboard was film there and a lifetime movie ,The Haunting of Seacliff Inn .I am from Connecticut and I do think Mendocino has a New England coastal town atmosphere. I moved up there from San Diego in 1992,and lived in Fort Bragg .I did visit Mendocino often and I loved it .I moved away in 2000 back to the East coast .I sure miss the Mendocino coast as it was the most beautiful and scenic place I have ever lived.
The "Overboard" house set was up road 409 at the old Maloney place. I think he sold it to them for the shoot. I spent many a night partying there when I was in HS.
In the early 90's I lived about a mile or so up Rd 409 in the pygmy forest.
Overboard and Forever Young were huge here! I used to work at the Point Arena Lighthouse and my old bosses worked with the cast of Forever Young. They all said Jamie Lee was awesome, Elijah was super sweet and fun, and Mel was rough.
This is beautifully edited and informative video. I learned so much about my home county. Thank you!
Hey Mendo! Greetings from So Humboldt! Great Vid, loved the narration, and informative too! I was fortunate enough to work after school all during high school in the very theatre where the Majestic was filmed , LOVE the history! Subscribed!
We lived there for a while, actually out in Comptche. It truly is a beautiful coast and we miss it a lot. Living also on the East Coast in New England and spending much time on the Maine Coast, we always commented on how similar it looks on the Mendocino Coast, even the architecture.
That shouldn't be a surprise. Mendo's south coast was settled by New England transplants.
I know it is kind of low-brow, but wasn’t ‘The Fog’ also filmed in Ft Bragg?
Great movie. Cult classic.
These all look beautifully shot. I got a make an effort to see them all, great vid.
And murder she wrote too
Don't forget the HP Lovecraft film The Dunwich Horror where Mendocino stood in for Massachusetts.
IMHO, the best movie here was "Summer of '42".
Bobby to Hollywood
ME TOO
Humanoids beyond the deep 1979. We were paid to stay all night during the filming of the carnival scenes I also lived in the trailer park next to the yacht Goldy and Kurt filmed in
You spelled Ukiah wrong
Ukiah backwards is Hai-ku 🙂
What about Star Wars? I believe it was the Ewok one
Suprised DYING YOUNG is not on here
Worries me to see ANY youtube that draws attn to Mendocino. Stories of the dirty cops are better (to keeping people away).
Why does it worry you? Mendo has always been a magnet ? some came, some stayed and many left
The Howling????
1981 werewolf movie by Joe Dante. Lots of scenes in Russian Gulch Beach and Russian Gulch campgrounds 2.
Peace my friend
Nobody remembers "Same Time Next Year?" It was a bigger movie than any of these. It's a shame that a so-called "historical society" doesn't give credit to that movie.
No kidding. A disappointing omission. Filmed at Heritage House with beautiful coastal scenery. Better than all the others!
I agree.
Humanoids from the deep!
Rob Bottins 1st hob with Rick Baker..
