Just a heads up about barn doors: they don't seal like regular doors! so, they don't make great bathroom doors and they don't dampen any sound between rooms. also, they wobble/rattle if there's any draft or wind moving through the room (typically only when the barn the doors is closed). i was super disappointed with our barn doors and i wish someone had warned me about these things. hope they work for you! XOXO

You just know the nicest people. Everyone (including yourself and Christoffer) seem so genuine and unpretentious. I love that Arvydas brought his little girl with him. Little girls love going to work with their daddy. I'm sure the reason this all turned out so well is due to the superior supervisor talents of Sir Grimm.

I was totally wrong .. I was hooked from the first video.. Went on to go back and marathon watch your past videos. Your personality and. Kris as well is addicting .. And of course Grim.. I love the idea of doing a day in the life of a family with children during polar night, and maybe when you have sunshine all day too? It would be great to have more interviews with other people that live there, why they live there, what their jobs are, how they came to be there, etc. Maybe even a day in the life of one of the supermarket workers, or someone who works at the mine or power station, something very different. Your sky views are inspiring to the max!! And so very cool that you were able to make the door from driftwood - wow, how special! I loved what your expert carpenter (which I really enjoyed seeing his skill in action) said about the difference how children and adults take change. Why do things become more difficult for us? Why do we not keep the child's openness and ease to something new and unknown? I guess part of it is how our brain shifts over time, so that's not our option. But, for me, and obviously for you and Christoffer, too, change and newness are something you embrace. It comes through in the videos, and energizes me, as well.
Shelves of books on the wall = secondary insulation. Win/win. 🙂 And I really look forward to seeing how it is with kids in the polar night.

Being in my latter years I have a bucket list. I only have two items left. One to see a Kingfisher in the wild and the main one to see the Northern lights. Both I have avoided as my family has informed me when my list is complete I will probably keel over, so I won’t be visiting you in the near future.

The aurora is such a beautiful phenomena I would love to be able to see one day. And all the stars. When I was growing up in Texas I remember the beautiful skies a night I used to see. No longer am I able to see the stars, occasionally I can identify Orion's Belt. It is such a feeling of wonder to be able to see so much nature every day where you live, It is easy for me to understand there is a higher being for such beauty to exist.

I'm so incredibly fascinated by your lives there, it is so completely different than anything I've ever seen before! I live in the hot and humid Southwestern area of Texas. It is usually 80 degrees on Christmas day! We live in baggy shorts and tee shirts since the humidity is so tough. The idea of ya'll living in the dark surrounded by magical lights overhead and polar bears, etc., is just like hearing a fairytale. Seeing the improvements you have made is so inspiring, it gets us going on fixing up our very old house! I love the barn doors and the way it all comes together. Thank you!

Spectacular views throughout the video. Grim was trying to see what the carpenter was doing. 😁 I agree with the carpenter about polar nights. The arrows look like a better design point in the living room. 👍 I like the book shelf idea above the couch. What type of sports do local's participate into during the Summer and Polar seasons? I would assume snow related sports during the Polar Nights, and Hiking/Walking during the Summer Days.

I can't believe how cheap that lumber was! Good job. Beautiful home. Yes, the Arctic or Siberian dogs are incredible! There's a Russian documentary on the Siberian fur trappers who travel to their remote cabins for the winter to make their money. Their dogs follow them all the way home...over 100 miles...running right alongside the trapper's snowmobile. I cried when they reached home, and went right inside to a welcoming family, apparently no worse for the wear.

I love that you're using drift wood for these projects. There's just that much more beauty to it I think . There are wood oils you can used to bring out the grain and add luster if you feel it looks dry.but as this wood lives with you it will develop a patina. If it were me I'd let that develope . It's usually a beautiful golden orange color. It's the features in our homes that aren't matchy matchy that give it character and interest. Live the book shelf and padded wall idea.

The Welsh RUclipsr Simon Wilson (pal of Bald & Bankrupt) did a video series this week where he went to 7 continents in 7 days: Paris - Johannesburg - Sydney - Tokyo - Toronto - Santiago, Chile, and then down to Punta Arenas to catch a boat to Antarctica. He literally bought all his winter gear one hour before getting on the boat, as he didn't have a clue about dressing for cold weather or polar life. It reminded me a lot of Svalbard life, at the other polar region.

You know, with a fire going and the doors closed? Be interesting to see how they look from that angle. Oh and your carpenter is amazing…..can’t wait to see the bookshelves! You could do a nice blanket or quilt as a wall hanging too and that would help muffle the sound. ❤ Hi Christoffer…..HI Grim!

So happy you are glad with your house like it is now, it's amazing!!

I was awe-struck by how beautiful the sky looks where you live. So dark, it was amazing how clear it is and how twinkling of the stars look so powerful, so much more than where I live.
About the door you installed, kudos to the carpenter because he gave you a great door and design. That space now looks super cozy.
I want to ask you a strange question. Since you have many weeks with dark skies, have you ever seen strange aerial phenomena, I mean i people see strange lights moving in big metro areas, I thought that perhaps in your location they would be more likely to be seen.
    Have a great week!
