  • CSUB Professor Stafford Betty Discusses his Afterlife Research
Stafford Betty is an afterlife researcher, novelist, and retired professor of religious studies at California State University, Bakersfield. His major nonfiction books are The Afterlife Unveiled (2011), a bestseller, Heaven and Hell Unveiled (2014), and When Did You Ever Become Less by Dying? Afterlife: The Evidence (2016). His novels The Imprisoned Splendor (2011), Ghost Boy (2018), and The Afterlife Therapist (2020) bring to life his research. His futurist novel, The Womanpriest (2023), tells the story of the first woman pope. His latest novel, Guardians of the Afterworld, was published earlier this year. In 2020 he retired from a teaching career at California State University, Bakersfield, where he taught Asian Religions and his signature course on death and afterlife spanning three decades. He is married with five children.
What happens to us when we die? Many think of heaven as an unimaginable state of bliss. As for hell, it's far out of proportion to any sin we might have committed and makes a travesty of God. But what if the afterlife was something very different? The key to such knowledge is mediumship. Four decades of research have taught Stafford who the most reliable voices are. These accounts are far better developed and more plausible than anything found in the world's scriptures or theologies. We hunger for a reliable revelation telling us that life here and now is meaningful and good, that each of us has an important part to play in its proper unfolding, that we are accountable for all we do, and that the godless materialism all around us is a pathological mistake. The world ahead, unlike ours, is fascinating and fair. Authentic mediums may be the closest thing to the voice of God that our planet has.
